Game Day 2024 Trade Period - Lian Yu - that liminal space between trade and draft.

I get pissed when supporters say ‘we’re young’ like it’s an excuse. I do get it, but at the same time we have proven we can beat anyone.

Well the norm smith was just won by some kid coming off an ACL.

We absolutely were in it up to our eyeballs but instead finished 10th!

Next year stuff making finals. We need to be top 2. We’re capable.
Still though, young players are not the same as a young team. A lot easier for Ashcroft to do what he does surrounded by all those big bodies in the midfield.

Whether supporters like it or not, we're a young team. It's not an excuse, because we've shown that that young team can perform. But pretending like it has no affect on us at all is just as bad as pretending that every poor season is ok because we're still young.

Completely down the track, but there’s a kid for the 2026 draft that is projecting to be anything: Lucas Robinson (Freo NGA)

Long way off, but something to be excited about.
Two years out is still too far to get excited. There’s been too many that have projected good early on and done nothing.

Hope this guy succeeds though, cos he was originally in WC academy and we stole him from them.

My honest reaction after today with a significant number of brewskies down is players shmayers. Comp is as even as it ever has been. Get into finals each year, turn up as often as possible and you'll jag one.

You don't need the best this, the best that. Just get a whole club on the same page working together and anything can happen. There are only 18 teams, even less actual contenders.

Brisbane aren't 60 points better Sydney, like Pies and Geelong the last two years I don't think there they have superstars all over the park. They have a good club, good environment and make finals consistently.
Good points you make.

I think generally on Bigfooty we talk about how if we could only replace player A and B with player C and D it would make all the difference in winning that elusive flag.

When in reality it is as much about coaching, teamwork, work ethic, club culture and all those intangibles which are just as important but are resistant to quick fixes at the draft/trade/selection table.

I’ve had a few brewskies also and may be bias, but I think if we added Bolton & Pickett we would be the best team on paper comfortably.
assuming our younger players continue to develop
We'd be in the mix, but I think the lack of experience of a number of guys means we probably wouldn't play like it consistently.

In 2-3 years though...

Agree.
Neale, zorko, & Joey plus a few others stood out as those experienced heads.
We’d struggle with that but be bloody exciting to watch tho.

We also need to pull some bloke who was destined for the scarpheap (AhChee) too rip a finals series apart as well ha ha

What's Warner actually worth? Two mid-late firsts?

If we give up 9 and 16 for Bolton.

It leaves us with: 10,27 and our future picks.

Would literally cost us: 10, 27 and F1

Warner would have to make it clear he’s leaving end of 2025 anyway. Possibly clear out his locker and arrive back in Perth. Then Swans may accept.

My mail today before the game was Warner/Dean cox could very well be a package deal go WC next year.

Its potentially why WC have been holding off announcing there coach.

The Cox denials is just PR spin to make the scent go away so there was no chatter during the Swans finals campaign

I suspect though today's result may force Sydney into a succession plan for 2026 with Cox to take over.

It's now or never for the Swans to make there move is Cox the man to take over after Longmire or not

I suspect Dean's management will ask the question now of Sydney how much longer do they want him to wait.

Your mail is wrong.

That's a twisting of the truth. WC were the ones trying to do the stealing. He was only listed in their academy because they incorrectly claimed him. Quite the duplicitous behaviour. His farm didn't move and was always in our academy zone.

Nice try disguising your opinion..

Alright so if anyone's interested - There are 52 players who have played 100+ games for us. I've counted 25 of those who have at least one son. There's a further 8 who I'm unsure of. To my knowledge, there are 9 that are old enough to have qualified for f/s in the past.

There are three 17 year olds (McManus, JL, Headland) though none of them are in the mix for f/s.
It’s a shame Kobe Farmer wasn’t good enough

With McManus' genes I thought he would have produced a decent f/s pick.

Yep great. After Brisbane get Levi Ashcroft and Sam Marshall cheap this year, we’ll get Robinson and Whan at a higher cost. Just tops

Watching Brisbane pick the zone a part was a thing of beauty.

And it super frustrating watching us go down the line again and again.

Do we have class in our back half to pick zones a part.
If the opposition only pressures at 160 we do. Reckon North would be a chance to pick them apart at those levels.

They did sit back and zone off a bit much. I didn't think letting Brisbane chip the ball in there back 50 hurt Sydney ,then next thing you know they have a goal.

I still feel we go down the line too much.

Who from our team could kick the ball between 3 opposition even with time and low pressure.
