Next years draft crop.

Queensland and NSW/Act state sides.

Made up entirely of academy players.

And the 2023 AA u16 side that reflects the above

I've attached the 2019 Under 16 AA team, how many of them ended up going in the first round?

Next year's draft is always the best or worst of all time, you never hear the armchair experts come out and say, yeah next year is a pretty typical draft, not too dissimilar from this year's.

I'm not opposed to trading out next years first for a top 10 pick, but I wouldn't be looking to give up a second rounder with it, and even that probably wouldn't be enough.

I also don't think it's a great idea to dismiss next year's picks as worthless because we expect a lot of academy picks.

Nah, they would get a guy in the open draft at 9, Kako with loose change, then their own F1
Not if a bid comes on Kako before pick 9 they won't!! They will lose this years pick 9 on him! If they trade it out ahead of time, they pick up Kako for junk pick points and move their first into next years draft!

How do they get a lower set of firsts?

Look at the draft order and see who would be interested in Essendons future second to move down and get infront of Melbourne or us.
The only club would be Gold Coast for points for NGA's next year but they have 6 slated for a trade I think and anyway Melbourne have been reported as a possible bid on Kako @ 5 so it would be moot anyway.

Also trading down means they have to use their one first round dp on Kako. Might as well stay at 9 and keep their future 2nd.

And the point remains. At the moment they have a NGA first rounder AND pick 9. using that pick means they only have one first this year.
Our surmised proposal means they have Kako this year and two firsts next year, basically and extra frdp.

Why can't we trade in a second for next year? We live traded for a free second this year. We should not look too far ahead when draft positions are so fluid 12 months out and also not worry about a second when it means another top ten frdp that could have us bossing this draft in a number of ways.

5 unattached Murray Bushies players in the NSW/ACT team.

Literally NO ONE that is immediately gettable in the Qld team.

This is what Fred was talking about.

Here's the AA under 16 squad for this year's draft class. Only 8 look like they're going in the first round.

Shows how much can change.

Bontempelli was practically unheard of 2/3s of the way through his under 18s season.

There could be some absolute gems next year that we have barely heard of right now. And honestly, I don't think a lot would have to go wrong for us to be at the bottom end of the ladder next year, hell we were bottom 4/5 for about 20 weeks this season.

You missed my point. The domination of academy talents across all representative levels is hugely concerning with pick 1 also looking like being Uwland at the Suns (12 months early).

We won’t be a bottom 5 side. So it will be another 2023 draft where our pick is significantly pushed back and it may not have the depth to it to find a Wilson.

This draft has the depth and talent. Trade in if possible

How can you say we won't be a bottom 5 side next year with any certainty. We don't even know what our draw looks like.

We only avoided the bottom 5 this year by less than 1%. Adelaide and Gild Coast finished below us with massive scope for improvement and Melbourne might have a dead cat bounce next year as they should theoretically have an easier draw than us.

The only teams I'm 99% confident we'll finish higher than are Richmond, North and West Coast.

Let's say we do finish 4th last next year, we could have essentially traded pick 4 (2025) and pick 30ish (2024) for pick 11.

Has the potential to blow up massively in our faces.

Everyone talks about how even this draft is, the only way I'd be happy with us giving up a 2nd and future first for 9 is if the 3 blokes left at our picks were all in our recruiters top 5.

You know of any of those unattached Bushies?

Or are they scrubs making up the numbers for the nsw academy stars?
No idea mate. Very much out of the loop these days.

I get little tidbits now and then, but no direct knowledge any more.

B: Webster - Phillips - Wilkie
HB: Wang.-Mil. - Howard - Sinclair

Yeah.

I’d take that.

Gives the Schoonermonster further time to develop, and gives Keeler and Caminiti more time to retrain as key defenders, if that’s what the club wants.

If you are that concerned with us being bottom 5. What’s the point in retaining our stars and not doing a Richmond?

Would be a tough sell retaining Nas if we are bottom 5.

Because the senior player fire sale has been proven to not work on multiple occasions. As for our aging stars, who is to say that getting players in 1 year earlier would make a difference to their timeline.

Our optimistic window would be 2026-2028.

Bringing in a good player this year might slightly increase our chances for 2026-2027, but a top 5 pick next year instead could improve our chances for 2028 more so.

I'm not 100% against trading for pick 9, but it's not something we absolutely have to do.

When it comes to trading future first I think it's prudent to always rate your own picks as a worst case scenario value and value opposition clubs picks as their best case scenario.

I would want SOS and co only making a trade if they think it would be good value with next year's first being a very high pick.
