When does pre season training resume I have never looked forward to pre season starting again ever as much as now, I think it has to do with getting older much older and being aware of it.

Just hanging out for pre season to resume.

They get back Jan 11th, which is a. thur, so maybe first main session on the friday?

AJ has shown he can contribute as a forward, needs to get more consistent and offer more in a contest.

Does that he is in.

Reef could be the one with the most potential.

Krueger yeah nah, unless we want him to run into Checkers and take him out for the year.
Reef is not the player that will stop the opposition from zoning off, and holding a monster sized key back accountable.

The forward line functions better with another tall contesting in the air. If Kruger and Eyre don’t work out, I wouldn’t be against playing Frampton there or even resting Cox and Cameron forward rather than the bench.

For me, if any of Frampton, Eyre or Cox have to play a significant KPF role throughout the season, we are most unlikely to be playing off in the GF again 2024. It's up to Kreuger or Johnson to make the position their own this year.

So given it happened post xmas in January 2023,and they return on the same day this year (a thur) and both years ended the previoud year on a wed) the boys will have 2 sessions next week
Thursday 11th, and Saturday 13th before getting back into regular programming the following Monday, January 15th.

Injuries aside you’ve nailed the issue with Kreuger. He needs to be more disciplined and predictable to his team mates and stop flying for every mark.
His agility and ground ball game are elite for his size, so if he can fix the above he could be a revelation.

As noted by several posters, there is no reason to believe that Krueger will be unable to get, and stay, fit over the next 5/6 years and give himself a chance of playing AFL football.

Across the land there are young hopefuls working their butts off, to break into their senior side. We wish them all the best with those endeavours.
Agree he’s being written off too easily. As far as I recall 2023 was injury free for him ( or at least short term ailments only)

This is about right.

We survived without mcstay for most of last year as well as when it mattered. We will find a way again. There’s also Reef who is a forward option as well as extra forward time to DeGoey and Nick, along with of course Schultz who will provide spark. And mcstay could be back hopefully by early august with some luck. Even without a genuine key forward there are tons of options.

I’d be willing to give Eyre the benefit of the doubt as a forward at this point. From all reports on the Essendon board he got in to the right positions playing forward, and was a good set shot but just had trouble sticking his marks. A couple of years of development and confidence in his hands could mean we have a potential hidden gem on our hands as a genuine swing man. He’s still young enough that I wouldn’t be writing him off at either end of the ground yet.

Perhaps Eyre could adopt the methods the climate control folk employ to cling to paintings. The club could recruit a suitable expert on stickying hands. Between you and me, I have never so much as set eyes upon even a bit of video of him, so am somewhat unreliably reliant on 2nd and 3rd hand reports and thoughts. But I can imagine what he is like.

I will either be pleasantly surprised or potentially appalled when I see him in the flesh. Your post is one such titbit of knowledge I can now add to the text filed away on him. I feel reassured now that I know for sure there is a gem in there somewhere, and pretty soon, you reckon, it's just going to pop out for all to see. A bit like last night's fireworks did from my vantage point on the far corner of the balcony.

So in summary you’re writing our season off if Eyre is a regular in our 22 despite you having never seen him.

Ok.

This time last year Johnson had returned to preseason out of shape and was subsequently ruled out of senior selection at the start of the season. That doesn't appear to be concern this time around and if anything he appears to look stronger through the shoulders as a result of time spent in the gym.

It's easy to forget to that Reef caught the eye of Fly last preseason and was in the senior side in the opening rounds.

It didn't quite work out as hoped but perhaps it was still 12 months to early for him. He finished the VFL season strong prior to injury so I'm choosing to take a lot of confidence out of that.

If one or both can step up then alongside the addition of Schultz and continued improvement from young Hill and McCreery I don't see why our forward line can't actually be better than in our Premiership year.

P.S- Johnson and McInnes looked sharp in Morwell but Hill was almost undefendable when we moved the ball fast and precise. If he continues to work hard and not let the heroics of his Norm Smith winning performance inflate the ego to much I feel his best is still in front of him.

Re: Hill, you’d hope so. He’s still very young, his physical peak is still a few years off yet.

Hill should have the goal is to be the next Charlie Cameron, he has all the tools, almost indentical type player, needs a little more size strength.

Or Shai Bolton without the ego

Who else looked good in Morwell?

It's hardly fair. On the rare occasion when training is too distant for you there is nobody to step up. It seemed obvious from your posts that you weren't able to get there. We have become complacent in expecting you to do all the lifting, not just the heavy stuff. I am too far away myself, but surely someone who was there for even one session could have filled the breach with a little summary. Perhaps it's not too late.
