Look at the cheerleaders for these teams. As if they're changing their opinions or anyone will be swayed

Add in both parties are pretty low on policy or substance, the debates will amount to absolutely nothing other than memes and some funny moments.

Trump isn't picking up any extra votes based on a debate performance, but Harris could conceivably snag some additional as yet undecided voters; including Republicans who wont bring themselves to vote for Trump, also conservatives and undecideds who were likely to just not turn out for a Trump v Biden GE. If she can perform well she can snag some votes there. Trump is deeply unpopular outside of his MAGA cult and regular Americans will be most happy to finally see the back of him; a large number of these types are not generally that engaged with politics and the debate might be the first opportunity they've had to hear her speak properly.

What would it take for you to admit that Harris has won the debate?
Not get into a mud slinging match
No political spin, answer questions without buzz words or going around in circles.
Give examples in answers and divulge actual policy/goals/KPI's

Same goes for Trump but he'll fail at point 1 (Kamala may get dragged into point 1 but absolutely fails at point 2 if she doesn't)

There won't be a 'winner'

This is more hope than reality I think.

re: bolded - 46% of votes went to Trump. Big 'cult'

re: bolded 2 - is why she needs to not use buzz words and talk in circles as she does. That's not getting people off the sofa to vote

A performance like Biden for Trump
What do you consider that to be?

  • meandering answers that don't actually answer the questions asked?
  • saying multiple, empirically false statements?
  • obviously losing his train of thought?

If those things happen, would you admit he lost it?

/noting Biden didn't do the second dot point.

It’s hard to give clear markers on who wins or loses a debate.

It's one of those nebulous comments, it'll all be based on the vibe.

I can’t put my finger on it right now but I read a very interesting article recently showing research that says that, contrary to popular opinion, these debates have close to zero influence on how the election pans out.
They used to but not anymore. Not with the changed parameters of the politics

Nixon famously struggled in 1960 and came across as terrible

Reagan outpointed Carter - with a little help from Iran

And Obama highlighted how charismatic he was against McCain

Not so much policy but an opportunity to shine your personality
