Don’t forget the general of the backlines

General Magden. He was a coach out on the field last year and when our talls are injured he will be the glue that holds the backline together

He is a most impressive leader and I am sure he will be an emerging coach of some quality soon. He is already working with the AFLW side

Thanks bicks
Chase Neutze an interesting one, GWS Academy graduate and been playing in the same Riverina League in 2024 as the Murray boys, by my reckoning he was eligible for the 2024 draft and only 19 yo. Know anything about him Jeffcrowe can't say he's been across my radar?

I think they've maybe spelt Chase's name wrong too
I saw you meant surname, but imagine the spelling in threads if we ever had a Chayce and a Chase on the list...

Guessing Chase's nickname will be "Deez"

McAndrew was set to secure a move to The Parade before Adelaide expressed an interest in his services via the SSP, with the 209cm talent currently training for a list spot of his own with the Crows.

If McAndrew earns a career lifeline with Adelaide, Norwood will then be left to reshuffle their ruck stocks - meaning Surman could be the club's first-string option despite initially deciding to call time on his career.

The Redlegs also lost Alex van Wyk this off-season, with the young tall landing at North Adelaide in search of greater opportunities after spending the past season as Boyd's understudy.

"[McAndrew's] just fighting for a list spot with Adelaide at the moment. If a list spot opens up, then he's potentially on their AFL list. If not, then Lachie will probably be our number one ruckman for this season," Kelly said.

"Our planning has been sort of around that, and that's sort of where it's headed at the moment, but until we know for sure whether he's got an AFL list spot or not... we've got some backup potential there.

"It's an unusual situation because of how the SANFL rules work with the Crows. So he's basically training with them full time, but he's at training with us [this Monday] to come and say g'day to the boys.

So if that's the case it looks like Saxon Evans will be our SANFL ruck until Strachan is good to or we get a LTI now? Or Toby Murray reverts to ruck even though by all reports he's training as a forward?

Spin it whatever way you want it ain't great list management.

It has been horrible list management in this department. Nicks clearly had an obsession with small players and its no doubt influenced our list management strategy in the first few years of his reign. Did Nicks demand this? maybe, maybe not, but someone decided to put the strategy in place. I think at one stage we had the least amount of players above 198cm in the comp.

I doubt Nicks has that much of a say

Nah this is mostly down to Justin Reid and to a lesser degree the list management committee, not sure what the makeup is of that committee?

Not LTI, that only mattered when moving a player up from the rookie list back in the day. To add anyone we need to pu someone on the inactive list which finishes them up for the entire season. Which could happen with Strachan if he suffers an early setback when he resumes running in Feb.

It's a combination of LM and overall footy strategy. What seems the primary driver is not unbalancing the 2s by having a developing ruck. The first backup needs as much work as possible to maintain the highest match fitness they can. What we saw last year is that they shouldn't really get any chop out, they should be fit enough to ruck all game at SANFL level. You're right though, each year we go into trade/draft without a developing ruck, Nicks wouldn't care even if he could influence the decision, dividends won't be paid for 5 years and he's all about the now.

Roo is chairperson, Nicks, Kelly and Reid are the football aspect and Silvers is there as well. The peanut ex-CFO used to sit on it too, but the replacement looks like he doesn't. Commonsense prevails finally.
