What about the other 16 clubs?
Don't think Erasmus would even be on their radar, there's maybe 1 or 2 other clubs where he's best 22 but at most clubs he's in the same spot as Freo, having to fight for a spot in the seconds. At WC he's best 22.

What about the other 16 clubs?
Pretty sure he's quoting me.Cal Twomey went on gettable today and said that Reid was the most skilled player in the draft and could play round 1. He said that Freo got the steal from the draft

I've noticed this phenomenon across many teams, this idea the coach doesn't have the "guts" to drop certain "favourites".I agree with you but there’s three glaring omissions that I fear JL won’t have the guts to leave out.

Exactly. The "tough" decision selection committee will have to make is more likely picking Fyfe, Walters, while the FB/Twitter/Instagram pages are full of Flagmantle types banging on about bringing in "the future".I've noticed this phenomenon across many teams, this idea the coach doesn't have the "guts" to drop certain "favourites".
I mean if they believed it would make the team better there's very few cases I believe they'd keep them in the team.
More likely in my mind, and which I've spoken about before, is that there are roles and requirements which aren't obvious to the average observer.
Ideally, all of Fyfe, Walters and O'Meara would be out of the team at the start of the year, how long do we actually believe it'll be until they get phased out though?
The midfield is a hard place to carry someone.I'd be happy for the team to carry Fyfe to a premiership, considering he carried our team during a low point when he could have gone to any of the other clubs.
I know moving him forward was a disaster but now we've got the JJJs he could be pretty handy as a third tall rotationThe midfield is a hard place to carry someone.
If we could hide him on a flank it would be ok.
I really don't think so. He was never that good permanent forward when he was gun. Can't see how he'd be anything other than a liability now. Zero pressure and probably only half the arial presence.I know moving him forward was a disaster but now we've got the JJJs he could be pretty handy as a third tall rotation
The people making the decision also have significantly more info than us popcorn eaters.Exactly. "investing in property" , everyones ballsy, gutsy and smart in a rising market...Went forward in 2024? From 2022 or 2023?
I am ballsy, gutsy or smart? Personal and career wise no but investing in property is another matter.
As for my point, kicking long to contest from a kick out isn't brave and lacks creativity. Having the same 6-6-6 set up 100% of the time again shows he doesn't go outside of the box.
There are no surprises at team selection, and he's sent one of the tall backs forward a few times.
My guess he wouldn't have the guts to drop Fyfe, or Walters if they become witch's hats.
I dont think think there is any chance of that being a factor...poor risk/reward ratio.Fyfe is on 240 games and Walters is on 239.
I wonder if the plan is to manage them in a way so that they both reach the big 250 milestone during the home and away season. Though it can disrupt the chemistry of the midfield and forward line if there are near weekly selection changes.
All 4 of the players you mentioned should be selected on merit. Shouldn't even be an alternative for Banfield and O'Meara.Coaches will always need to make hard decisions on Veterans. The question do they have the guts and smarts to transition older players.
Banfield has never been a top line player, and it's just a hard conversation that he needs to fight for games.
O'Meara isn't a Docker champion, and he already knows that he could be dropped like last year.
Walters is a club legend and the coach should be smart and transition him out. Maybe, say to him that he won't be playing every week and be managed as sub or play limited number of games. Playing him at Peel would be a slap in the face.
Fyfe last season had some great games but other games he was a witch's hat. We need to play him 15-16 games. Reduced travel and never play a game less than a 7-day break.

Oh I agree that it shouldn’t be a factor.I dont think think there is any chance of that being a factor...poor risk/reward ratio.
The "management" is balancing development and H&A wins as top priorities....
Bravely managing the Risks!
