Cal Twomey went on gettable today and said that Reid was the most skilled player in the draft and could play round 1. He said that Freo got the steal from the draft

I agree with you but there’s three glaring omissions that I fear JL won’t have the guts to leave out.
I've noticed this phenomenon across many teams, this idea the coach doesn't have the "guts" to drop certain "favourites".
I mean if they believed it would make the team better there's very few cases I believe they'd keep them in the team.
More likely in my mind, and which I've spoken about before, is that there are roles and requirements which aren't obvious to the average observer.

Exactly. The "tough" decision selection committee will have to make is more likely picking Fyfe, Walters, while the FB/Twitter/Instagram pages are full of Flagmantle types banging on about bringing in "the future".

Ideally, all of Fyfe, Walters and O'Meara would be out of the team at the start of the year, how long do we actually believe it'll be until they get phased out though?

I still think JOM offers enough to not be bundled into the same conversation as Fyfe and Walters.
He might go the same way as Aish but if JOM is one of our bottom 3-4 players each week we're almost winning the flag IMO.

I'd be happy for the team to carry Fyfe to a premiership, considering he carried our team during a low point when he could have gone to any of the other clubs.
The midfield is a hard place to carry someone.
If we could hide him on a flank it would be ok.

I know moving him forward was a disaster but now we've got the JJJs he could be pretty handy as a third tall rotation
I really don't think so. He was never that good permanent forward when he was gun. Can't see how he'd be anything other than a liability now. Zero pressure and probably only half the arial presence.
Worse yet, his man would come off him all day because worst case scenario for the other team, Fyfe takes a mark and kicks a set shot.
He just can't play there.
The people making the decision also have significantly more info than us popcorn eaters.
There doesn't have to be a conspiracy or "photos" or the usual tropes that gets trotted out.
Just to be clear I'm not suggesting they don't get it wrong, but making decisions is always tougher than it looks from the outside (even Cox mentioned it in his Sydney presser).
The other thing that always irks me is the magic beans that are new draftees. I've never got within cooee of high level sport, but even I know stepping up from an U18 comp to the big time is a serious jump that not many can manage, yet we always have new draftees being put in the B23 instantly.
Walters, Aish got dropped last year. Banfield as well.
I don't doubt JL can do it.
I expect Fyfe and Erasmus to play half the games each this year. Not sure O'Meara, but if he is our 22nd player then we will be OK.
"investing in property" , everyones ballsy, gutsy and smart in a rising market...
pretty hard to be a loser ...whereas only one winner in the afl!
afl coaching teams decisions are more like "life or death", essentially different and not comparable.
Winning is so simple on BF!

I dont think think there is any chance of that being a factor...poor risk/reward ratio.
The "management" is balancing development and H&A wins as top priorities....

All 4 of the players you mentioned should be selected on merit. Shouldn't even be an alternative for Banfield and O'Meara.
You seem to be suggesting Walters should be used as a sub but not played at Peel. Terrible idea and one that seems designed to benefit him (his ego) but doesn't benefit the team. If playing at Peel keeps him in the best condition, then play him at Peel.
Same with Fyfe.

Oh I agree that it shouldn’t be a factor.
But whether it is their on-field experience that he values or their status and standing at the club that makes them hard to drop, I’m not convinced that JLo will leave them out of the team for extended periods.
Maybe stronger competition from the likes of Bolton and Erasmus will help make the decisions for him.
Managing our fading superstars will be a huge challenge for him in 2025.

I think they worry about upsetting people, but they also value leadership and experience very highly.
As good as Mundy was in his last two seasons, I think his biggest contribution was the leadership and on field coaching.
