2 Players make me dislike Hawthorn.. take a guess at which players they are.
I can't believe you have an irrational hate of Will Day and Luke Breust

I like Sicily. But yes, Ginnivan and Watson. For a kid that's 168cm tall, he has no right to be cocky
I mean I’ve heard from people I know who’ve played with him and gone to school with him he’s always been like that, but fair enough when he’s as talented as he is. Ginnivan was that bad when he was younger and has improved a fair amount.

It doesn't matter whether u like the Hawks. If u hate Watson now wait for the coming years. His height is irrelevant as he is one of the most gifted footballers playing the game. It's not an opinion as such but a statement.

Another example of posters over inflating their own side in ladder predictors.

It's a joke isn't it ?

Stars win you flags and Hawthorn don't have a solitary bona fide star of the competition.

Big wake up call for Hawthorn supporters this year. Very overrated.
Sicily. - one of the best defenders in the league.

Newcombe. - one of the better players in the comp only getting better. (His form backend of the year and finals was easily one of the best in the competition.)

Day? - everyone knows he will be once he gets a free run at it, shown that enough already.

Moore (AA) - best half forward in the comp.

I didn't suggest you don't have very good players.

I suppose people have different perceptions of what constitutes a superstar.

Your absolute top end talent falls well short for me.

I think saying the Hawks are loaded is seriously underrating Mitchell as a coach.
Kane-o reckons Hawks are loaded and Sam is also a genius. 🤷‍♂️

I think thats the point he's making though. When was the last time a team won a flag with one of the 'better players in the comp' leading the midfield rather than genuine star talents?

If Newcombe is ur best midfielder I'm not sure I see the Hawks competing for the flag, think they'll be quite strong next year but coming up against the likes of Bris, Freo, Port, Carlton, Collingwood, GWS etc are they going to be able to match it with their star midfielders? Not as convinced.

They also had an insanely soft run in the 2nd half of the season and momentum played a big part. Much more difficult draw this season.

Picked them as the best riser this year, but thought they might just miss finals.

I think they have plenty of scope to challenge for a top 4 spot

No such thing as irrational hate for anyone in brown and gold. You know this.
It's the gooner/chav principle.

Never had a problem with Brisbane and Collingwood before even when we were terrible. Didn't have major problems with those other midfields this year either.

As an opposition supporter I'm going to love watching them going about their business for the next decade.

And I called it as soon as Ginnivan was traded to Hawthorn and Watson was drafted.

The game needs some Sass, and they've got it in spades.

Because when you have two (Day and Newcombe) plus good depth, and the fact that both of those aren’t players that are persay 28 and hitting their peak, these guys will be genuine star talents, they showed as much especially Newcombe. Newcombe could be considered that already, but it’s a subjective opinion.

They also started awfully and won’t start that way or are very unlikely to which means they don’t require a massive run of momentum and good games to get back into contention.

A lot of Hawthorns top end talent is young and it’s hard to say they are or aren’t superstars or stars yet based on consistency which is in part to how long they’ve played AFL football for. Sicily is a genuine star however and that’s confirmed by being in the league and doing it for long periods. I could consider Newcombe a star but it’s a subjective opinion.

Based off 2024, Hawthorns defense was the best performed both defensively and attacking, their midfield was a top performer and they had probably the best crop of small forwards in the league.

Nothing is linear but off paper you improve these areas through additions in the backline, development through the lines and players returning from injury, it’s an odd statement to say far off in any case.

Fremantle, Saints and Adealaide arent miles behind most of the teams that played finals in 2024. It will be a tight race again for finals. Will be interesting to see how Sydney go with a new coach and new ideas and how Brisbane manage to restructure the absence of big Joe Daniher. Of course, all eyes on the resurgent Hawthorn after their stellar 2024 - how dare they jump the que so dramatically.

Kind of my point...

It may change, but I don't see the superstar talent that usually wins flags.

And when I say superstar I'm talking top 5-10 players in the league.

A year ago no one thought we had the talent to make the finals any time soon

time to have a go at this I guess.

Did the full ladder predictor including margins (but didn't really do any blowouts more than 10 goals, even for teams playing against Richmond) and came up with this:

Don’t think there’s a Richmond vs Richmond game….
