Soccer games are 25% shorter, with about half the high intensity work, 70% of the distance covered, and first choice players make about 30-40 appearances a season.

The workload is about the same, arguably lighter.
When the premier league season is 38 matches, then you add the Champions league season, then you add the FA cup, then you add the Carabao cup, it’s closer to 45 plus than 30

18 players - no bench rotations and one sub for injury.

if coaches want to play a run around like headless chooks and play for jo the goose strategies let them wear their players out ion the first quarter or two and see the other team win by 15 goals.

if list managers want to pick kids who can run all day but cant kick a football or lay a tackle - good luck with that BS too.

let the true stars be stars again - instead of cannon fodder for triple teaming them with plodders

and stop the BS about not enough talent to go around all the Clubs.

ive watched Rugby league destroyed by what HQ has done over the last 15 years turning into a boring battle between two sides full of nucke dragging brickshthouses
Rugby destroyed by technicalities that no one can decipher anymore and the adoption of straight lines

AFL is being strangled into the same black hole of rubbishness at an accelerating rate - by a bunch of accountants.
That’s an interesting take, I don’t think that’s ever Been the standard but I agree with the idea, coaches will need to adapt and play real positional football.

I haven’t heard of the AFL reducing interchanges further but at least they have been going down, keep it coming

I’d really just like to see 4 on the bench and a sub in case of an injury and a reduction to 10 interchanges per quarter.

No pissing and moaning if you choose to use the sub and then get an injury.

Once teams realise they can park a player or two in the 50 for the whole match and they won’t need to come off, the running players would have a good amount of rest breaks

Too many rotations IMO.
We got to the stupid stage when goal scorers are racing off..
Bench should mean you’ve been dragged, or need a blast from coach on the phone. Should also bring back the dressing gown when stationed on there.

What about just having 10 rotations max per quarter including injuries? 5 on the bench X 2 full rotations per quarter.

Pretty simple change but gives so much more flexibility to coaches compared to almost any other pro sport in the world.

I like how it would simplify the game for everyone - especially fans - but setting such a low limit the AFL can tweak the limits over time to really understand the impact on injuries (if any).

The AFL already have the data before coaches started to abuse the interchange for a significant advantage. Had bigger lists back then and less clubs making the talent pool seem better but I just don’t remember the carnage we seem to have nowadays across the board.

I like 10 a quarter and as many as you want during breaks, the coaches and players will adapt.

In 5 seasons at man City across all tournaments Grealish has played 137 matches.

Most players don't play all the games. EPL has some really strict player rotation and resting. Most play 30-40 odd

Yep, doable.
AFLPA may kick up on the injury inclusion - maybe they’re excluded from the 10 cap (sit a MIN of 5 or 10 minutes off, and head knocks would be outside the quota as well).

from my perspective, the risk of reducing rotations and/or bench size too significantly is that we might end up with a match day team filled with Cottrell types because their output is deemed greater than others who can't run flat out for the entire 80mins (time on) of a game.

Reduce rotations and clubs will start using/drafting endurance beast over pure footballers

I don't think we want to encourage situations where players are available but not playing due to load management. Fairness of the competition, kids getting to see their favorite players, a number of factors for why we want our teams playing best available wherever possible.

I'd be surprised if they didn't play more than that. Their season has 38 games + F.A. cup,

Bruno Fernandez played 76 games a couple of years ago. Plenty play well over 60 a year. Championship, league 1 and league 2 play 46 home and away, maybe 3 play off's, F.A. cup ties, English football cup , some internationals and some pre season friendlies.

Premier league teams only play 38 home and away but plenty have quite a few extras with champions league etc along with F.A. cup and a lot more internationals. The big boys also get to play a lot of overseas warm up games as well. Then chuck in nations league, euros, Olympics and world cups as well.

Different sports and different demands obviously. We'd be more like for like with the NFL in terns of impact and wear and tear on bodies. The NFL went from a 16 week season to a 17 week season a couple of years ago purely on an income received basis (it has the most lop sided fixture of any sporting body in the world). It's hard to imagine a sport willingly forgoing income in this day and age by reducing the amount of games that are played.

Great for him and can't think of a team with a weaker midfield so plenty of opportunity. Reckon he plays more games then Dow next year.
That is likely a fair call. Carroll has plenty of upside. Vossy is not great at empowering the youngsters (Ollie aside, even Cowan has shackles blunting some of his strengths)

Likely Carroll will thrive if Lyon backs him in. Not a star but will nit be surprised to see him a 100 gamer.

My greatest hope is that the youngsters we have maintained equal or out perform the careers we unfortunately had to cut.

SOS would have to be the most predictable list manager ever, he’d be getting close to filling all fingers and toes with recruiting players he’s already drafted.

Incredibly stubborn in all facets of life
