That is likely a fair call. Carroll has plenty of upside. Vossy is not great at empowering the youngsters (Ollie aside, even Cowan has shackles blunting some of his strengths)

Likely Carroll will thrive if Lyon backs him in. Not a star but will nit be surprised to see him a 100 gamer.

My greatest hope is that the youngsters we have maintained equal or out perform the careers we unfortunately had to cut.
Wouldn't Carroll have become surplus to requirements due to list spots being required for pick 3, Ben Camporeale and Lucas Camporeale?

We do have some rookie spots. Would have been fairly easy to cut and rerookie him and wouldn't have effected ability to use 3,38 plus 2 Campos.

I think we just felt he was a pure onballer and a fair way back in the queue for that role. Happy with the depth we have given we also have Ben Campo + Pick 3 coming in.

One ITK mentioned there were some issues similar to Stocker too (but not to the same extent). Not sure what that meant exactly.

I think he could have a solid career yet but doubt he would have played much for us next year barring injury. Better for him to get opportunity elsewhere.

How many games has he played in almost 3 years 2-3, he is not getting any younger now, if we can obtain a 23-25 year old with more durability & draft a young defender with our 2nd pick that outcome is much better.

24 out of a possible 44 VFL games and 2 AFL games, so 26 out of 46.

Clearly a list balance issue I'd have thought. Bringing in a mid at pick 3, Ben Campo, and effectively Lord, left us with too many mids on the list. Hence Kennedy and JCarroll pushed out. We didn't need his list spot for draft picks/points.

I really liked Jack, happy for him to get another chance however. List management decision and I understand that.

He will have a solid career at the aints imo. If he can just build up his tank a bit and have a big pre-season he should play

every game for them. I will be watching the aints with interest next year, go well Jack.

SOS would have to be the most predictable list manager ever, he’d be getting close to filling all fingers and toes with recruiting players he’s already drafted.

Incredibly stubborn in all facets of life

Agree but SoS has taken 3 and Austin has taken 2. They are all the same and can't face the facts of their prior world.

Austin maybe worse as Young would have the highest contract on the five as he fell for a 5 week form guide and upped his contract.

Austin has taken 2 in 4 years from his former club. He didn't even technically draft Young at WB as he was in a different role then

SOS has taken 3 from us in 2 years at St Kilda plus 9 from GWS while with us. No comparison. Though Jack C was technically drafted after SOS left.

I don't have any issues with it personally so long as he keeps failing to lure our good players. Am happy to see guys like Dow, Stocker and Carroll get more opportunities.

For mine, jacks ceiling would rival a Matt Kennedy. I’m sure he’ll end up being serviceable for the saints, however c+ to b grade midfielders are an easy find and expendable on an afl list. I’m confident that whoever we pick up at pick 3 will play more next year than Jack would’ve played in 2025.

He's a genuinely good footballer and gets his chance to cement himself as a full time mid at StK. He would never get that chance at Carlton. Good result for Jack... although StK.

This has been a real off-season of adjusting the list away from how Vossy seemed determined to structure it when he first joined. After that initial focus on Hewett, Cerra, Cripps, etc. strong/slowish mid group I guess we've now recognised that we over-emphasised and now lack speed. Last season 2 of our quicker guys in Martin and Cunners were injured which drew a line under how slow we are as a group.

Injured or slow or both and gone:

Carroll
Kennedy
Martin
Cunningham
Marchbank
Durdin
Owies

That is a big list adjustment losing 7 guys aged between 23-28. I wonder how much was salary cap pressure with Weiters, TDK and Walsh contracts on the horrizon?

We're definitely adding three more slowish types in the Camporeales (who won't even be expected to play next season) and Cooper Lord. Then we've got pick 3, 38 and Duffy who again may not play all that much next season.

Will be interesting to see which players we take in the draft but surely speed is a major factor. I think we need to take a 22 year old from the VFL who is ready to go or a delisted free agent with speed and a mature CHB from somewhere. Right now the list looks very susceptible to injury.
