I saw on a Collingwood thread that Liam Hude is training with Collingwood…shame we couldn’t find a spot for him but I guess we need a genuine KPF rather than a promising 3rd tall 🤷‍♂️

Ultimate guide to every AFL club’s under-23 players heading into the 2025 season

BRISBANE LIONS
HEADLINE MAKER
Norm Smith Medal; premiership medal; 2023 goal of the year; overcoming a knee reconstruction … it’s been a wild two-season, 31-game ride for Will Ashcroft. The scary thing is he is going to get better. His performance alongside Lachie Neale in the grand final last year was extraordinarily mature for a 20-year-old. More medals ahead!
X-FACTOR
Essendon was one of several Victorian clubs trying to prise an injury-hit Kai Lohmann out of Brisbane in 2023. They must be shattered that they couldn’t make it happen. He transformed into one of the AFL’s most exciting young talents, with a penchant for big-game moments including 4.0 in the grand final. He kicked 36 goals in 2024. Could he kick 50 this year?
QUESTION MARK
James Tunstill has had limited opportunities since being drafted at pick 41 in 2021. His three seasons have yielded nine games, including four last season, but this is a bloody hard side to win a regular slot in, particularly through the midfield and forward zones.
KEEP IT UP
Darcy Wilmot is a weapon. As a general defender, he rates above average in disposals, intercepts, metres gained and pressure, making him almost the perfect blend of attack and defence as a running half-back.

What a ride it was for Logan Morris in his first year. He chowed down on a BBQ Angus meal with six nuggets on the side and a frappé after a VFL match … then came in as a late replacement for his AFL debut a few hours later. He finished with two goals in a grand final, and a flag for good measure. Joe Daniher’s retirement creates greater opportunities for him.
SMELLS LIKE TEEN SPIRIT
The Lions not only won the flag, they replenished with acquisitions who could be competing with Jaspa Fletcher for a wing role. Levi Ashcroft, as a bargain pick 5 father-son selection, and Sam Marshall, an Academy pick at 25, look ready to make an impression.

Jamara…..
With our future midfield just about set with Dunkley, Clug and Rayner around for another 5+ years, the Ashcroft brothers, Fletcher, Marshall and Annable coming on board, JUH would just about keep us in finals contention for another 8 or so years in conjunction with Hipwood, Lohmann & Morris up forward.

Andrews, Payne, Starcevich, Kiddy and Wilmot strong down back.

Genuinely feels as if we are a gun key forward aged 25 or under away from remaining in contention for the next decade. The issue is they are the hardest commodity to come by.

Main concern I have about Jamara is if he has the attitude and professionalism out there to want to achieve personal and team success as there has been rumours in the past that some players at Bulldogs enjoy the party life a little too much and if you look at the Doggies thread, it seems like JUH isn't setting the track on fire lately at the club.

It's why IMO Dunkley moved from the Bulldogs to here as he wanted a club that was more professional than the party lifestyle over there so wonder if the club will ask for Josh's input on JUH first before deciding if a good decision or not to go after him.

Reckon we might be trying to attract Mitch Lewis (coming off ACL) from Hawthorn instead long-term but we won't know what the club are thinking until later this year to have an understanding of who will partner Hipwood in the F50 especially if Day ends up having a better than expected season for us this year.

I would be shocked if our list management team did NOT seek the thoughts of Josh Dunkley, a current vice captain at the club, about the potential recruitment of any of his former team mates.

JUH would be great but there aren’t too many pick one, KPFs, that leave after 5 years outside of Boyd who is the obvious one. You’d think Bevo goes before Jamara if that is contributing to him not re-signing yet.

Again, I’d be very surprised if Lewis isn’t the one that we land. Less capital required to secure him, connections with a number of the players already and probably looking to get his body right which we have had a track record of doing. Would also presumably cost less, which would aid with keeping the list together.

And I don't think JUH is the answer with our structure. With Hippy n Logan, we more need a big body.

Roos Larkey is my wet dream.

Total Fantasy. What if Levi wanted to stay in Melbourne, and North offered us Larkey?

Really don’t see Larkey as a big body.

I don't think we'd be interested in JUH.

You wouldn't be surprised if a fully fit Day went well in our system given the volume and quality of supply he's been used to getting in the past. He seems a reasonable enough kick.

Obviously we'll be looking to 2026 and beyond . It's not really possible to replace the ball winning ability of Daniher around the ground and on the wings where he always provided a good contest.

Some of the Dogs people who follow them closely have doubts on certain aspects of his footy and his attitude. Which means he might be gettable. I suppose we wait and see what they offer him this year.

At what point to we point the finger at the coach and system and not individual players? Dogs off field has plenty of issues.
