Travaglia is a long-term midfielder imo - otherwise the club wouldn't be playing him in the mids at VFL

You can still get him around the ball in the VFL and he doesn't become a mid especially with our lack of depth and quality right now. I think even if he eventually becomes a full time mid it's as an outside type or wing. Still think his best footy is as an attacking HB. His Metro v Country match he looked really good as that line breaking long kicking type.

You just said he's not defined as a HB. I think if he's not a HB he plays a similar role to Wood and also around that level of quality. Just off the absolute top tier but still miss him badly if he goes out.
I said he isn’t a back pocket like Jimmy Webster.

And quite frankly. We don’t have a Tom Stewart type and we haven’t since Sam Fisher.

Aleer and Caminiti playing tall back. Allows Wilkie to play the Hudghton 2004/5 role of tall or small.

Allows Bergman to sag off the high half forward as an interceptor and play l midfield minutes. Like Stewart right now.

Allows Tauru a few years to develop into his body and play third tall.

Allows us to finally look at Nas or sincs permanently up the field.

Allows Tauru or Caminiti to swing forward.

Why the **** are we even discussing this shit? Like someone telling you that they wrote-off your car but they have grabbed you a sandwich.
Bergman isn't that bad, and if we got him it would be NAZ staying AND we grab Bergman, not as some consolation prize. he can play, but like Battle last year, I want to keep NWM, even more so. We say we have learnt from losing Josh Bottle, lets see.
If we lose NWM and just get Bergman and a pick I would be pretty disappointed.

It does seem bizarre that we'd let Battle walk over $100k or something and then pay a kid $900k on potential only. Aleer looks like a promising kid but to pay him like star before proving anything sounds bizarre management. Especially seeing as we spent up Battle's compo getting a player that would probably directly compete for his role.

Do the maffs.

Battle Vs Aleer & Tauru

Crikey its looking like we are going to have a big off season trade wise. If the club pulls those off they will rocket us into top 4 calculations!

It will be akin to the Gehrig, Hamill, Voss, Lawrence trade year that took us so close.

All we need then is continue to draft well, get games into the kids and have some luck with injuries.

Josh Battle was just as close to a Stewart type than what Bergman is

"You want to go to a club where you think you have a chance of having success, and it's hard to go to StKilda and think you have a chance of having success" said one industry figure. "There are not many clubs out there where you would think you have less of a chance. They don't have a great core of young talent to build around and it's like what am I going for apart from money? There is literally no reason."

Yikes, if that's the actual view across the industry we are really on the dog heap. Not sure how they can be so wrong, we clearly have a good core of young talent based on four good years of drafting. This year is exceptionally important, we need NAS, Owens, Windhager, Lou, Wilson, hopefully Trav and Tauru and maybe even King if he can ever get on the park to change perceptions of the club.

In 2021 St Kilda had players aged 21 and under who played a collective 61 games; it was 53 a year later.
In 2023 the Saints had the most games of a 21-and-under cohort of any team to play finals in 15 years, with 109 games. It was up to 134 games last season.

Imagine what the numbers would be like if Ross played the kids.
