In this current economy where late firsts are worth pretty much the same as a early-mid second rounder in previous years? I disagree

Your examples; Houston was a mid-late FRDP, pick 36, Noble, Richards. Hill (Bradley) was pick 10, second rounder, and a former FRDP in Acres. That's widly more expensive than what we'd have to pay for Bergman before you even consider quality of draft etc.

The main point where we disagree is Bergman's quality and potential. Which is fine. I think Bergman likely becomes a version of Stewart with a poorer kick but better defensively. More above average than elite in other areas. I rate his aerial ability and think he can thrive under Enright and Ross. Probably not a 5xAA but think he'll be good for a long time

The freeing up other players is just an added bonus and a rebuttle for when people were saying they'd prefer to develop the kids - we can still develop those kids even with Bergman in the team

And I dont think Bergman will cost 900k/year - probably more 800k which considering the salary cap increase is about 650-700k scaled to original salary cap

So the chance at a player like Max Holmes or Wilson?

Put Burgerman on the backburner.. Not paying a first round pick- full stop. Port can keep him if that's the case. It'll be Future 2nd or It'll be nothing. The club should not be trading it's first round pick until it's shown it doesn't need anymore young talent ala North Melbourne etc.. Geelong got Bailey Smith for what ended up being Pick 20 for christ's sake. If we gave up anything close to that for Bergerman we're cooked as a list management. Based on recent business I can't see that happening as much crap as SOS gets we have been pretty sharp on the trade table lately.

Early signs of the draft are that there are a ton of academy/FS kids in the top 30. Highly unlikely this number dies down because there are also a ton in the 30-60 range too

We don't know the exact number but the number of bids in the first round could be close to double digits

Very highly doubt we'd be stupid enough to offer him 1 mil when we already have the lure of home to leverage. 900k I'd be slightly surprised. 800-850k probably ballpark imo assuming Aleer is around that too (which I think is overs for Aleer btw)
I’m hoping this draft will be such a joke that it forces the AFL to do something and drastically change(back) the academy and father son rules

Yeah take the Geelong approach given he’s out of contract and play extreme hard ball. Once the player has committed he ain’t going back there.

SOS has been pretty good at driving a hard bargain. Reckon it's one of his strengths.

If he doesn't go well as a mid he plays defence. Simple. He's already proved that he's a good defender and will get better with age/experience/improved coaching

Again, I don't see why we'd bring players in with a view to seeing how they go as a mid.

As a defender?... depends on cost.

I don't see him as being an important piece of the puzzle.

Until Webster retires and we get pantsed by every possible small forward in the comp

If LOC proves himself this year then you'll have a point

But until then, we don't have an adequate replacement for him

I get the impression that Webster would be very annoying to forwards.

Yeah.
Just don’t hold your breath though.

Was there talk around Burgoyne possibly leaving the other day? Or did I miss read something?

Looks like he could be a very damaging player.

Going at 96% amd has 6 score involvements already. Probably been Ports best to tonight.
100% want if he's on the table.

He looks the real deal and would compliment NAS massively

Pretty sure he's doing the same as Windy. Establish his value early in the season and sign on the appropriate sum later
Which is an alpha move. Windhager had a down year last year, as did Mitch Owens. I think Windhager is underrated by some Saints fans, I still think he has what it takes to become an A-grader. He hasn't come close to his peak.

You would apply a common sense approach wouldn’t you.

I’m not saying he will be a gun because port supporters say he might be a gun. I’ll say we might be able to land a good young versatile footballer that fits the mould of what we are building. A young versatile exciting list.

Agreed, we may land a good young versatile footballer. However, that’s not the issue, which is what we’re dancing around here.

You’ve come out and said handing over Nas and first rounder, in return for Burgerman and banged up Butters is a good deal. It’s concerning.

This only benefits the footy club is we’re bringing Burgs in without turning over young established talent and draft capital. Keen to understand your thoughts around how that’s going to happen, as handing over NAS and a FRP clearly isn’t it.

That was pure speculation.

I’ve said I think Nas will stay.

Nothing linking us to Butters. It was bigfooty talk on here.

Okay, so I’m still keen to understand your thoughts around how the deal happens where we land Burgerman without handing over draft capital or Nas? Great deal if we can, clearly not if we don’t.

Because you’ve come out and said we’ve be embarrassing Port by handing over Nas and FRP for Burgerman and Butters.

Wasn't worth a turd until Cornes started talking him up to get a better deal for his old club.
Cant say i noticed him before then.
