Unreal. A new measure to go with the Newcombe Curve!

Well played Dewnior ! 🤣
Do we have a unit of measurement for the Schoey Pre Season Buffness indicator?

For instance I rate Newk a solid 0.9 on the Schoenmakers scale this pre season whilst Harry M is probably 0.3 (sorry Harry but I needed a reference point).

Huss is a talented young player who is trying to fight his way into the team. Our midfield has been our strength so he hasn't had a chance. We had Finn and then ward come in before him because they filled a role. He is probably fighting for a spot with Worpel and Nash a hard gig. The club has been trying to get him to kick more use his big frame and legs to get out of traffic. His hands in close are great. He had a good session yesterday where he was a receiver delivering inside 50.

No chance as a mid in our team.
Great in close, but defensive liability on the spread.

I could see him becoming a tall HFF though (gunston type), and he'd get to some stoppages in that role too.

Thanks to you both.

i was a fan during his draft year but since then the game has moved (at least with the Hawks and Saints) in the direction of speed and hard running, Henry seems to be caught in between, questions on whether he can run 15km a game as an outside md, or get 30 plus as a true mid, can he take enough intercepts to be a half back? I had hopes that he would graduate to the role that Day plays coming off the back of the centre and run straight lines, is he physical enough?

I hope it works out for him and the Hawks that they can find a role that really works. :)

Mackenzie is doing that job at the moment pretty well, so that's the challenge for Hustwaite this pre season. I like him and hope he works hard at Box Hill and when his chance comes he takes it.

He has to be an inside mid if he’s going to make it.

Has all the skills but will simply get outran at AFL level outside of the contest.

Hopefully he has a big year at VFL level (getting 30+ most weeks, rather than the low 20’s he was often getting) and constantly putting his hand up for selection. Then he takes the opportunity at AFL if it presents itself.

He needs to start dominating VFL though as when the other mids vying for a spot drop down they simply get more involved.

I can still remember making homemade whizz fizz from Icing Sugar, Bi Carbonate of Soda and Citric Acid. Was actually pretty close to the real thing as well.

Look I admit I have a degree in Industrial Chemistry (all of which I have long since forgotten) and I may or may not have made some imitation Whizz Fizz as a youth but that's where the similarity starts and ends 😜

God I wish I was as smart as Walter White 😂

Great show, best ever drama IMHO.
Yeah it certainly is right up there. A model of putting characters under pressure and seeing how they react / behave.

Bring an ex chemist I also had strong correlation in feelings with Walt in how shoddily scientists are treated and underpaid (especially in Australia).

I'm not saying I agree with what he did but I can understand how he got there.

I just hope this year we put it all together.
2 years ago it was our forwards who seemed to step up whilst the rest treated water.

Last year it was the defenders who did the heavy lifting without support.

This year it seemed like it was the midfield doing the most whilst the rest faded in and out of games

Unpopular opinion - elite sports systems are miles behind when it comes to effective weight training. Accommodating resistance on rack pulls? Above parallel box squats... in runners?

S&C guys in sports escape scrutiny because they're working with the best of the best, they can do almost anything and players will still be stars, painful to see that this type of training isn't going anywhere.

When you say effective weight training what do you mean? That's a very broad statement.

I agree with your general sentiment, but it's the limitation of a team based sport more than anything. You have to program broadly as you can't get too personalised with gym sessions like that.

Assistance on rack pulls is fine if they want the emphasis to be on the glutes and now the spinal erectors. The rack pulls are probably for power development anyway, hence the velocity tracker on the bar.

Same goes for the box squats, it's more than likely just a trade off on stress vs adaptation. Zane mentioned as much during the video.

I'm just glad they've moved away from 1RMs most useless things in ball sports. Great for the ego though.

Also if you think this is bad just look at the crap they do in American sports. Most of the NFL blokes train with glorified instagram personal trainers 😅

- to stay on topic -

Quite impressed with Cams lifts, boys got some grunt in his legs.

I mean that effective weight training is far simpler than most people assume it is, and it is the same almost irrespective of the sport.

Rack pulls already being an extremely shortened movement, the bands are just making the bottom half of an already half rep easier. Box squats have similar issues, in that they mask issues by not putting the knee or ankle through a full range of motion.

They're both poor movements - particularly if you're trying to limit stress (or fatigue) as they both prioritise weight over movement and produce more axial fatigue than is necessary.

The runners are also a major gripe of mine because they create instability and instability impedes force production.

Could go into much more detail but would probably not be interesting to most posters here.
