Lol, we've been in a full rebuild in recent years. What did you expect? Be the youngest team in the league and compete for a flag?

The only truly disappointing year was last year. We should have been 3+ wins better than that.

This year looks better. If we can get a full year from Thilthorpe, if Rachele plays as well as he looks - we have a bunch of players who should be continually improving, and they at least look like they're taking it very seriously.
Where do you expect us to finish this year?

You don't think coming last in 2020 was disappointing ?

I reckon only 2023 was acceptable, the others have been very poor and last year was a shocker

Wrong again.

We should have made finals in 2023 without some blatant coaching errors with selection and use of the sub.

What are you putting the blame down for in 2024?

As for the youngest side, it’s really a weak excuse, as I’ve pointed out to Carmo a number of times, we had senior players and Nicks let us down in 2024, it wasn’t due to a lack of experience.

Finishing last?

No, you absolutely need to bottom out in a rebuild if you're being genuine about it. If anything, another year at the bottom could have helped, but there's a few sides who are REALLY bad currently.

The other years, we played kids and improved slowly, until last year which was a backward step, though not an unexpected one as rebuilds are rarely smooth and linear.

We started a rebuild and they typically take at least five years. The last few years haven't been fun but they were exactly what I expected.

You know we didn’t plan on finishing last right?

You have an antagonistic style about your posting.
I'm going to opt out, enjoy your day!
Fair enough, that's not what I intended.

I thought your negativity was to provoke a response, but I don't mean to antagonise, especially if that's not what you meant. I just have a view that sits pretty opposite to yours.

Have a great holiday, and here's hoping for a good 2025.

Thanks, there is no point taking this one further.

I'd like to be positive but I just cant see it.
We are in a hell of a lot of trouble if O'brien gets injured.

4. He only did half the runs apparently (150m, not 250m)
5. Rankine is likely being supportive of a new bloke by saying nice stuff, it's all fluff

I really do hope Draper is Rd1 and forever though <3 we desperately need a Roo/McLeod level player, one of these days.
We already have a McLeod level player in Rankine.

Also Hawthorn seemed to do pretty well this year with a bunch of kids.

Big difference is they have a very smart coach!

I hope they have been taking it serious from the start🤷

In hindsight are you glad we finished last and got TT? Or would have preferred 16/17th with Phillips or McDonald?

What will be most beneficial outcome long term taking an educated guess?

And I agree most teams don’t plan on finishing last (well Tigers clearly are next year)

Whose to say we still couldn't have got Thilthorpe.

Who’s to say we still couldn't have got Thilthorpe.
That would require either:
1) RT tanking his interviews and pulling a bit of a Wingard (unlikely)
2) North and/or Sydney not having RT higher on their wish list than who they ended up with (possible, but unknown)

It’s almost impossible to judge whether we would’ve still gotten RT or not, but it’s fair to say we’re better off with him than anyone else selected after him in the top 10

That’s not to say finishing last didn’t suck at the time, but it did end up having its benefits

I’m glad we bottomed out, finishing last doesn’t bother me, but that’s not the point of my post. Mostyn is giving the club credit as if it was by design, it was far from intentional with Roo saying during the year we expected to be better but our experienced players let us down.

Finishing bottom also forced us to go full rebuild rather than half arsed.

IIRC I think Logan was rated better than TT at the time in 2020, so coming 2nd to last should have been enough to secure TT.

You would think North either go local ie Philips or take Logan.

IIRC Logan had a better body of work in a compromised draft due to covid restrictions.

Was there one draft we actually got right?
