There’s nothing wrong with our fitness, but nor is it a competitive advantage. I haven’t looked at stats, but off the top of my head, when chasing a margin, we’d come out hot and wear the lead down and get close and then our opponent would hold us at bay. If we had a fitness advantage we’d outscore at a higher rate the more game time that had elapsed. Pretty sure that’s not how most final quarters went down.

Agree. Glad we can all agree and close out this discussion loop.

See Milo Cyrus - the club shouldn't be embarrassed by Draper running faster than everyone in December. Phew.

Maybe Draper is simply faster than any other Crows player ? .......hasn't anything to do with fitness, have we seen how he's gone in the Club's time trials ?

Seems to me almost every year there is a club who drafts a kid who comes in and heads up or performs extremely well in the time trials. Muscle development v weight v body type seem to line up for a good result.
We have gone for book ends this year, but recent photos of Tyler and talk sounds promising.

I know I’m a bit of a broken record but not knowing the player weight changes is disappointing.
The photos of Darcy coming from the West are amazing and rumoured 10 kg weight drop.

I was always big on Welsh's talent ....and frankly I'm glad he's come into the Club with little fanfare or expectation from supporters

You're right, Draftee's are much better prepared for AFL life than 10 years ago ......Darcy Wilson at St Kilda was one that also dominated time trials the minute he got to the Club ......but he wasn't the fastest ;)

We also debunked that though - cos draper did like 2/3rds of the running in those sessions, so he was out in front in the ones he did do.

And he's probably quite fit.

More to do with coaching and being shit than fitness.

The fact that we only had 4 out of 23 games effectively over (with a team putting taking it easy at 3/4 time) and our best performing quarter was the 4th quarter shows that we didn't have a fitness problem in 2024.

The days of getting any advantaedge over teams from fitness are over. You get a few players who had limited pre seasons but on the whole every team is fit.

I think the real advantage is coaching and player leadership. The on field leadership is not just pointing players where to stand but that real willingness to win.

Not exactly true, some players just aren't capable of having great AFL level endurance

Classic modern Crows supporters cyclic narrative

New highly touted (reportedly extremely professional and driven) draft pick comes in and performs well n specific field. = club good news

Supporter finds a way to present it as how bad the club is (suffering AHC syndrome). Makes sensational claims for the likes.

AHC = Anti Happy Clapper

Hodge had both in spades

Judd had the desire to win but not the ability to push people in game

Agree. So our fitness is fine. Not sure why you were arguing against yourself.
I'm not the one who brought up fitness an issue?

All I said was teams jumped us, then we're able to control the games on their terms. We came back at most of them as they had comfortable leads... nothing to do with fitness

You are the one banging on about fitness.

Bottom line is most games we wre behind for most of the time.

Do we? Don't the majority of teams start at the same time?
They get the same length of break but everyone's season finishes at a different time

Only the dud teams start when we do

Yet not enough...

What was our winning strike rate after being behind at 3 quarter time (or even quarter time for that matter)...

Very low.
I'd be interested to see how often we got within a goal or hit the front then lost. Feels like every time (the only times it didnt happen were when there wasnt enough time for us to cough up the game losing goal eg carlton & essendon iirc).
We'd play exciting footy then hit the front and try to protect the lead, which is terrible strategy and takes away from what we were doing that was working. It's clearly the coaches' instruction to do that as it is very consistent.
Apart from our poor starts, this is something we have to work on in preseason

Nicks is very good at using those extra 4 weeks to have us primed to go each year.

We are 1-9 in the first 2 games during his 5 season tenure. Really sets us up for the season.
Feels like we spend each preseason zigging while the whole competition zags

I'm sure we use these 4 extra weeks each pre season to learn a new game plan
