Which key defender is going to step up and become a dominant player?
To go to that next level our defence needs to be top 4 and will require our young defence to progress.

Can Murray put his ACL behind him and become that?
Or will a second preseason for Keane elevate him?

I think Murray is a little overrated around here. And before I get bombarded, I think he's been pretty good and his development curve was genuinely exciting. I just reckon a lot of people rate him currently as if the improvement had already occurred or was certain to occur. We've had a lot of players flatline after locking away their spots in the best 22. Reckon both Murray or Keane can go to another level and Butts is a solid player when not injury hampered.

I've said for years, Crouch adds very little benefit to a Midfield, where all AFL Clubs are seeking speed, both legspeed and ball movement

I agree with the analysis, our midfield will function so much better without Crouch .....more opportunities for Rankine, Peatling, Dawson, and Curtin ....plus Rachelle
And I have said for years you have no clue in the assessment of our mids as indicated by
your “Premier midfielders of the future”😉

Time will tell , case rested and cue your hiding monkey gif.

Nicks coaching for his career and Matt is the first hands on the ball man, best in our team.
Can’t see us not starting with him, will be in ripping shape .

I've been on Waynus' side of the argument the last few years. Matt is a crab that is kryponite to aggressive ball movement out of contests/stoppages. But, most of those years we had other crabs in there and actively deployed a hack kick strategy ahead of trying to run the ball forward of contests. Defenders love nothing more than indiscriminate kicks coming in high. And there's nothing worse than trying to defend your opponent with a guy running at you that's not under pressure to dispose.

So I'm putting Matt into the wait and see now that him, Laird and Sloane aren't the terrific trio. Even Berry has a crack at getting on his bike and breaking past the stoppage. Add in the speed, inventiveness and smarts brought by Dawson, Rankine, Peatling, Rachelle (hopefully) and Soligo and Crouch might form a part of some decent mixes. The knock that will remain is that he's midfield or bust, has no ability to rotate through anywhere else.

He has been stifled for years by similar players and think he will show what he has and had on display
in his best year.

Questioned my own MCrouch bias but very confident and be happy to admit I was wrong.

Crouch to Rankine, Crouch to Peatling, Crouch to Dawson and Soli
that’s how I see it first up anyway. Exciting times for our mids.

Yep, I’d be shocked if Crouch isn’t going to be given first crack as I’m pretty sure he’d be our best clearance winner, as long as he’s farming it out to one of our explosive players like Rankine, Peatling, Dawson then he’ll be doing his job.

If we have a new recruit who excels at stoppages then we might not need Crouch. Seems Draper could be that player as he likes to give away the quick handball but can also burst away. But he won’t take over from rd 1.

Our midfield this year is going to be very interesting to see how we shape up, we are now developing a bunch of decent mids but need 2-3 to be A graders to elite.

Dawson, Crouch, Soligo, Rankine, Draper, Curtin, Peatling, Berry, Taylor, Schoenberg, Rachelle are a decent bunch to work with and some tough calls to be made. Haven’t included Pedlar but could get in there as well if we saw him as a mid.

Selection with a healthy squad all over the ground is going to be a challenge, don’t know if Nicks and co are up to it. What we can’t do is have a mindset of a best 24 and persist even if some are out of form, 2 average games and you’re out, there’s someone now capable to take your spot. Keep the pressure to perform up, the only lucky player through poor list management that can escape that is ROB.

Further if we have an injury to a KPF, do not want to bring in Burgess at any cost, play 2 KPF and Curtin as a full time forward.

Midfield is about having the right balance of players.

Crouch is easily our best ball hunter, but the problem is we have been playing both Crouch & Laird which is untenable.

Crouch without Laird & the others you mentioned gives our midfield a healthier look.

Crouch was an All Australian midfielder for a reason as he has midfield smarts.

Another factor to consider is how many of our players get to their highest level to not repeat it over multiple seasons? Senior players are allowed to enter cruise mode and only need to be on par with a younger replacement due to our overvaluing of experience and continuity. Matt had his groin issues, compounded by us (as did Brad), but he definitely dropped a level in terms of intensity prior to those issues.

Yeah I think in time Draper will be our go-to clearance winner, but will have a few more strings to his bow than Crouch

Peatling will also be good in that regard. I have Crouch playing R1, but we will have players to cover what he brings once he moves on/falls out of the 22

If you want a good discussion on the Crows players, and team make-up .....you'll find this very entertaining
Forget the Supercoach aspect ....those discussions are more based upon player roles

General agreement is ...Crouch should not be playing ....and the impact Milera has on the Crows

Have we worked out what his draft year is?

Well this is the 2nd time I answered it because ..... lets just say apparently we dont have free speech.

So by my best calculations he would be somewhere around 2026/2027. Was 11 in 2020. Cant go into more detail because apparently its worthy of deletion.
