Its the ability to mix it up with big strong players changing with real pace changine with hard ball winnets and blending multiple combinations of each of those traits. Flexibility will be a real key AND assetMidfield is about having the right balance of players.
Crouch is easily our best ball hunter, but the problem is we have been playing both Crouch & Laird which is untenable.
Crouch without Laird & the others you mentioned gives our midfield a healthier look.
Crouch was an All Australian midfielder for a reason as he has midfield smarts.
Yep, my first thought tooLooks like mini-Tex.
OMGSome small/medium forwards in for a hard time in 2025 by the look of Hughey's shoulders/arm development..

Oh dearWho is Bob Ross
I was surprised at how poorly he speaks or it was just an ordinary interview.
Many thanksI also went to the last 90 mins of training today and appreciate the thoughts of Wayne’s world and Bigman. Usually I pop down to a session this time of year to see how the lads are tracking. I agree it was very windy which really challenged the kicking skills of the players and combined with high pressure across the field, saw lots of turnovers by foot.
Here are a few of my random observations:
-Lachlan McAndrew if that’s his name (ruck from Sydney) didn’t look too bad out there. Very tall and with Strauchan currently rocking a moon boot, he wouldn’t be too far away from an opportunity if ROB got injured. He’s raw.
- Soligo looked good, drove his legs through traffic confidently and stuck tackles with conviction.
- Pedlar was prominant. Found the ball, moved confidently and took on the opposition in traffic with intent. Looks back to his best
- Draper has a dynamism that stands out in our squad matched only by Rankine. Exciting to see him live- looked clean with his hands, draws a crowd and flicks out handballs to others in space.
- Curtin trained with confidence. Beautiful kick, strength and size in the handball games was a weapon. Good progress from this time last season.
- Thilthorpe is a monster. Didn’t do too much that stood out with the footy but his presence out there really stands out. I think he left the track early probably just managed.
- Fog didn’t stand out but what I noticed was how confident and free he now is in his body compared to previous years.
-Rachele kicking the ball much better than this time last year. Worked hard today and in good shape.
- Nankervis and Laird trained exclusively as defenders.
Overall it was a hard day to stand out due to the wind but it seems like the squad has good depth now. A nice balance between young talent, middle band of players that have played their 75-150 games, veterans, star power with Dawson, Rankine, Tex (although nearly finished) and hopefully adding Thilthorpe, maybe even Curtin and Draper to this list in the near future.
hmm are you looking out for different things ….Many thanks
Interesting re Curtin …. when the ball was being kicked into 2 competing tall KPP 15 mtrs from goal ….. the coaches were constantly spurring Curtin to speed up his reaction time, after the contest, to put defensive pressure on the exiting defender
The ex SYD ruckman is tall …. unfortunately he has no bum or core strength ….. consequently he’ll struggle man on man, and doesn’t look to be a big leaper
Thanks for the update! Where has Milera been training? We all of a sudden have a glut of halfback/wing types and still have to see Oscar Ryan debut. I'd personally love to see Milera play forward, could see him being that X factor in the ilk of Callum Ah Chee for Brisbane last season.TRAINING REPORT
Just wandered down this morning …. it’s good now, you can stay in your car and watch with a coffee
I thought in a degree of hardness it was an average session, over 2.5 hours ….. pretty windy, so skills were a bit sloppy
bigman will explain the drills better than me …. but lots of of one on one stuff
So i’ll outline my views on some players
Draper ….. held out of a lot of drills, 1:1 he wasn’t strong enough against the likes of Dawson
But he has a unique ability to get in front of his opponent, using bodywork and just keeping the ball in front of him
Curtin, was most impressive today ….. strong in the 400mtr runs …. impressive with his bodywork in one on one contests
Certainly gone to another level ….. just imagining what another 12 months will produce
Milera …. the forgotten man … you can mark him down for R1 !
Looks a thoroughbred, a real bounce in his step, confident and moved very impressively
Pedlar ……. He’s back !
All the arrogance and speed was on show ….yes he got caught a few times trying to do too much, but we’d prefer he take on the game rather than be too conservative
Soligo … looks quicker and very classy
Rachelle …. great condition, and spending a lot of time in midfield drills
Because there was no match sim, it was hard to provide too much more analysis
Berry ….. obviously knows he has to fight for a spot ….. he was almost the best player at training IMO …. just went for it in every drill, and was quick and sharp
Some of the mature players just looked to do the session. ….. Dawson, Rankine, Laird, ANB, just looked like they were ticking another session off
Tex Walker ….. impressive condition … impressive in running drills …. he’s certainly not making up the numbers
Nankervis ….. he’s filled out really well, quite a solid boy now ….. and another impressive trainer
Nick Murray …. would be my standout trainer today …..what a physical specimen, and looks quicker than last year
Toby Murray …. i think he’s got it …. still looks a bit like a baby giraffe … another 12 months and we’ll have another good Murray
Maxy …. sorry, i didn’t see a big change in physique …. still rangey
Peatling ……wasn’t a standout today IMO …. i thought Curtin, Berry, Rachelle stood out more …. that said remember there was no match sim, and that can change opinions
He'll be playing half back in the SANFL.Thanks for the update! Where has Milera been training? We all of a sudden have a glut of halfback/wing types and still have to see Oscar Ryan debut. I'd personally love to see Milera play forward, could see him being that X factor in the ilk of Callum Ah Chee for Brisbane last season.
Am I correct in thinking that Draper and Welsh have swapped jumpers here?
I thought he looks good and much better than what he wasThe same fish eye lens that made Fog look fat is working it's evil trickery on Welsh.
We've had too many years of happy little accidents I think....Oh dear
He looks the same to me. He'll be fine though. I'm not worried.I thought he looks good and much better than what he was
No, the paunch has decreased. The running, however......He looks the same to me. He'll be fine though. I'm not worried.
