Another one of those who blended in. Nothing noticeable stand out but nothing noticeably badGreat write up, how’s Sparrow looking? Surely we are gearing up for his break out season in 2025 do you think?
Yeah it's a shocking road when it's wet.Yeah i got up this morning and was contemplating it. The highway between Benalla and Mansfield is super shitty as it is along with the wet and loaded with roos
Langford will take too many votes from him.Might have a cheeky go at Trac for the Brownlow this year.
I like Spargo. Low possession high impact type. I think we've missed his kicks into the F50. He's one bloke who can hit a target front of centre. If he got his possession count up he could be a Gryan Miers type. Not sure he's capable though and achilles injuries are tough to come back from.Spargo was on SEN saying he's finally got his body right after surgery. Said his achilles had been niggling for 3-4 years and finally blew up last year. Building up loads now and feeling good. No timeframe on recovery.
This for me is the most encouraging sign so far, from our post anal horribilus times.I didn't catch a lot of Langford, but is a big kid and took some nice marks in the wrestle drill.

For a big mid... 'they' need to have other strings to they're bow. Just being a mid isn't enough on its own. They must be damaging with the footy.
That's ok PG. The only things people on here are interested in is how fat Clarry looks and if Jefferson is doing anything yet lolI’m having my holidays so I might go watch at Gosches on Monday. I’ll do my best but won’t be able to write it up as well as Perfect because I never recognise the drills other than “kicking for goals” and “running laps”
This I can probably do!That's ok PG. The only things people on here are interested in is how fat Clarry looks and if Jefferson is doing anything yet lol
Hey, you're you again! This I can probably do!
Thanks from both of usHey, you're you again!
You will fit right in down here. Thanks from both of us
As long as you can update us on how their shoulders are looking and if they are having good time.I’m having my holidays so I might go watch at Gosches on Monday. Time trial notes:
Out of the entire playing list, Sharp is the only one with good running form. Smooth. Dominated. Would’ve smashed a prime Tomlinson. Not surprising in that he was a national steeplechase champion but the difference between him and the rest was chalk and cheese.
Kynan Brown really cracked in and performed really well. Losing to Sharp by about only 60m in the end. It was good to see.
Langford was leading his group of 5 or 6 for the majority of the 2km time trial. Despite having good lung capacity and endurance, his running gait is a little off. He got overtaken by Kozzie Pickett towards the end which was an amazing effort for Pickett who is in great shape.
Jack Billings has lost A LOT of weight. It’s especially noticeable in the face so he has clearly been working very hard.
With time trials, I personally don’t really care how they perform, but mores how hard they push themselves. With this in mind:
- Horrible performers were Mentha and Jefferson: Not only were they poor performers but the lack of effort was disappointing. I was right up on the fence and they weren’t even breathing hard.
- Kentfield is big but he’s overweight. Was barely able to lift his legs off the ground. Similar with Verrall who didn’t really crack in.
- Oliver had a crack but he was one of the worst performers and plain and simply, he’s fat. He needs to lose 7 or 8kg and I find it hard to see how he can play Round 1 without being a massive defensive liability. I feel like it’s a big opportunity for the club to set some standards and not play him until he is right. But highly unlikely he won’t be named round 1 considering how good he is.
- Petracca was laser focussed on his breathing to the point where his form is too rigid in his running. Started off okay but laboured in the end.
- Tom Mcdonald performed well. He’s trim and he looked comfortable.
- Windsor performed poorly but he tried. He’s a sprinter so not to surprising. He trained well afterwards.
- Bowey performed very well. He’s clearly been working on his endurance. One of the best performers in the trial and found the ball a lot in the half ground drills.
Training notes:
- Fritsch ran laps all training at a very good pace. He looked very good.
- Xavier Lindsay also did several 200m for most of the training session at a slow pace, maybe half of Frisch’s pace. Really excited with what this kid will become.
- Lever and Spargo didn’t train really and either did Shane McAdam but McAdam did his usual boundary line running.
- Very windy conditions meant that there were some skill errors.
- Kalani White was here. Super tall, super skinny. But he has good skills and covers the ground well. He’d be a great project player to have on the list and I’m totally on him.
- One of the drills involved a ball being kicked up high to a key forward and key defender inside 50m where the ball would be purposely hit at their feet. The aim was for crumbers to hold their distance and not be too close to contest when crumbing. So be 5m off the pack instead of 2m off the pack for instance.
- Guys in good shape: Sparrow, Woewodin, Kynan Brown, Viney (who is in career best shape imo), Sestan, Gawn, Chandler, Bowey, Windsor, McVee, Laurie, Salem, JVR, Pickett
- Rivers is in great streamlined shape. Has never had much upper body muscular definition.
- I think Tholstrup is in line for a lot of Half forward this year. He’s a big guy and I don’t think he has the tank for midfield.
- Viney leading by example. Sprinted to the drinks a few times when the whistle went.
- Langford is slow. I don’t want to be a kill joy but I was disappointed with his lack of speed. And without speed, there’s no power. Not sure he is clean below his knees either. I preferred Alix Tauru but we’ll wait and see when match sims start. His kicking skills are very good and he looked significantly taller than Trac. I'll trust Jason Taylor at this stage.
- I shouldn’t be doing this but Mentha simply doesn’t have it. Yes, I’m ruling him out of being AFL calibre already. Skills are poor for a small forward and he isn’t quick and his skills are meh. And he’s low energy.
- Aiden Johnson looks great. Had a real crack in the time trial and looked good in all of the drills. He fired off what looked like a 30m handball in the backline at one stage which make me take notice. He’s got to be ahead of Jefferson I would’ve thought.
I took many pics of Lindsay
Sparrow locked in for another 23 games
Especially in December pre-Christmas.This is a pretty good illustration of just how useless the 2k time trial is.
