Find it interesting that Dimma said that they see Balta more as a defender and still want to try and settle him there but that he also makes it hard because of the way he does things when playing up the ground.

Club definitely been keen on him as s defender, but I think he is better off around the ball rucking and going forward.

We don't need him down back at this stage.

Let him bust packs open and be an offensive beast.

Would hate to see us chain him up and restrict him.

Anyways, I can't agree with developing Balta as a defender. Not one bit.

Grimes and Astbury will be around for another 3-5 years. Garthwaite looks the goods too. Broad is going nowhere. Up forward Jack will be finished soon and Lynch will need help.

Purely on a needs basis Balta is playing right we he should be. Balta is the perfect modern day forward/ruck who is basically an extra tall midfielder in the middle. No other rucks can keep up with him.

Balta striding through the middle and blasting 60m bombs into F50 > everything else.

Pretty much the same, although afterwards i was really glad at how it panned down. Being our 3rd pick means he was under a lot less pressure and scrutiny, and as a result gave him and the coaches the luxury to develop him at his own pace (which turned out to be faster than I thought, but either way...)

From what I have seen at VFL and AFL level, he doesn't suit being a defender right now. I hope they just let him play in the midfield/forward line for now. His explosiveness is best utilised in those areas at the moment.

I’d hope not. An arrogant campaigner like Chris Scott would of carried on taking like another 5 years is a guarantee. Seems very presumptuous for a coach to talk about five years time like it’s a given.

Kids going to become a beast of a player i have no doubt and playing a full year and another pre season he will be going flat out for 90% Game Time and good luck trying to tag him he punishes the opposition players by ramming them Townsend Style

Coming from St Albans (Keilor these days)kind of gave me a bit of an advantage

From what I have seen at VFL and AFL level, he doesn't suit being a defender right now. I hope they just let him play in the midfield/forward line for now. His explosiveness is best utilised in those areas at the moment.

If they're looking to develop him as a defender, it probably means they think he's too 'football dumb' to make it as a forward long term. Athleticism will make you an OK forward, but you need to be elite at reading the play and timing/preparing your moves to really make it to the top rank.

In defense, you can let your opponent do the thinking and just stick with them and use your athleticism to beat him once the ball comes in (and cut them up on the rebound).

Yeah, the good players should all be in the forward line or midfield, unlike spuds like Rance, Vlastuin, Houli, Grimes, and the like.

A tall, fast guy sprinting out from the back 50 and then roosting it 60-70m Yeah, you're right, that'd be a terrible waste.
