I had him best on ground. Numbers not that impressive but his involvements were always significant. Lots of important pressure acts, half his touches were score involvements, and generally set the tone with his competitiveness both on the ground and in the air.

He has come such a long way in such a short period, watching him in 18s I didn’t think he would make an AFL list let alone a best 22 player. A massive kudos to the recruiting team on this one, he didn’t play anything like he does now so I’d be very intrigued to hear what the recruiters saw of his development back at NAB League level.

Hopefully they saw what we see, determination, effort, gut running, 1%ers, scrapping, toughness, blue-collar, courage.

He gives me the Billy Duckworth vibes - probably the 22 helps, but he has a bit of the Billy about him which I love.

A lot of those traits honestly weren’t there at 18s but yeah he did come from a Basketball/Cricket background and didn’t join NAB League until his draft year with many of the best prospects having 3 years already training in elite programs

His kicking was also superb which was new. 91% by foot all the while throwing himself around like a mad man. His kick to Caldwell in the first, Redman and Menzie in the last were all mid-long to advantage and he took some really nice short options forward through congestion which opened the game up on a few occasions. All in all his disposal was clean and quick. Only one touch was long to a pack.

From memory it was the one game with Richmond reserves - just from the highlights they posted from that his tackling and athleticism were impressive. To select a guy based on one game but with outstanding traits is the type of risk/reward recruiting you need in such a competitive environment (assuming we didn't look at him too much the year before). Agreed the recruiters did well. I think Lord was another we only saw one game of - it shows how many matches and players we are tracking and hoping to locate the diamond in the rough.

I love Duz. He just keeps running. If he played then like he does now, what pick do you think he would have gone at?
