It is not even that, we only got 8 and their FF, we spent the downgrading of pick 1 to 3 to move 8 to 2.

There were a lot of chaff picks that moved around as well, picks we didn't use from memory.

It is what it is though, I didn't like the trade but it is done, move on now.
It pretty much is

We went 1 and JHF for 2,3 and future first and late 40s picks

Let’s say 1 equates to 2 and late picks

JHF then is 3 and goad

Yes, excluding chaff picks that nobody used, GWS paid pick 12 to move from 3 to 1. So essentially we paid JHF+12 to get pick 2 + Ports future 1st.

The only reason we had 2 instead of 8 was that WE paid for upgrading pick 8 to 2 with pick 12 GWS paid for us downgrading pick 1.

I can't believe you identified it and still claim it is JHF for pick 2 and future first...

Ah ok. I thought they said on Gettable last night the top 20 was the cut-off.

Edit: It looks like prior to the EBA they said top 20. When they announced EBA though it says first round.

'while first-round draftees will now sign a three-year contract in the men's competition, which is up from two seasons.'

CCJ & Xerri not impressed by this selection.
One of them can't ruck at all.
The other hasn't developed as well as we would like but will still be first choice ruckman round one next year.

Says alot that Goldstein was still first choice (and it wasn't even close) last season.

We need ruck talent because we don't have it. Picking a ruckman in this draft was a must. If we deemed him to be the best selection for that (aside from the Gold Coast guy) then I'm fully supportive.

I like the fact the guy is fast and moves well, like a modern footballer as the two ruckman we have move like cruise liners.

Horrendous? I’d say Wardlaw will be a better player than JHF. Goad is a free hit

Wardlaw's ability isn't the question and I agree if he's not as good as JHF the difference will probably be negligible.

The question with Wardlaw is staying injury free. If he does that then we'll be fine.

2026 season most probable. Might get a few games in 2025
We have two other ruckman on our list. One of them is only a back-up ruckman at best.
If Xerri gets injured and Goad starts ok in the reserves then he could be playing much earlier than anticipated.

Nothing better than using draft picks as free hits.

Hopefully you’re right re Wardlaw. If he can’t give us 20 games per year, questions will need to be asked though.

**** it, I'll take on the role of Debbie Downer. I don't think Wardlaw will be better than JHF. I don't see it. I don't think many players will be better than him. Wardlaw has a ton of tools though and a far superior attitude at the moment though, so this isn't a slight against his name at all. I'm pumped for what he can be.

We gave ourselves every chance of getting a good return from that trade. If Goad comes on well, we're laughing. But all the JHF downplaying makes me wonder if others see the same stuff that I see

Don't think he'll take as long to come (physically) as some people think. He is already 98kg and has put on 8kg in the last 12 months. That's more than Jacob Edwards put on in three seasons at the North.

He'll be able to compete in the VFL from the get-go this year!

And given he only needs to dislodge Xerri to get into the ones, it’s not beyond the realms of possibility that he’ll get a game in 2024

I cant believe this shite is still being argued about. It was worth whatever it took to get that cancer out of our club.

Apparently he played 13 matches for South Adelaide in the SANFL last year and averaged 25 hitouts. So he's played against men and more than held his own.
When I read that I felt it meant the u18 comp they have over there but didn’t really make clear? The only reason I thought that is because it said he won a premiership and all I know is Glenelg won the flag in the ones.
