We've had a blessed run with rucks over the years and these 2 are getting wraps like they deserve senior gametime based on SFA.

Each occasionally posts decent VFL numbers but nothing compelling that is making a difference to their team winning week in, week out.

Having watched Petrie, McIntosh, Hale, Daw even bloody Dan Currie all slug it in the reserves - I know what a compelling case for being "too good for the VFL" looks like. And apologies to Xerri-Baby and Callum "lol we won't be giving up pick #19 - G.Luff" Coleman-Jones but they're nowhere near that group.

I hope we give Todd 5 years just to **** with a few heads on here.

hard to argue with any of that. We could have kept bloody Soup Campbells, Braydon Preuss, gone and got 2 Metres Peters for nothin. I know you're not overly happy about the Comben selection. He actually played on the weekend bandage free. Was hard to recognise.

My point is if we though Comben would get over his injuries , wtf did we recruit CCJ for? Sign Xerri for 3? Charlie will be best 22 for us, good looking side with; Xerri, CCJ, Goldy, Larkey and Charlie.

It seems our thought processes are random.

We’re in discussions with his manager apparently so the wheels are turning and Goldy was relieved to learn this fact.

Good, my little bloke is absolutely devoted to Goldy Goldstein (there is no other player) to the extent I look at my fantasy teams "where Goldy Goldstein", I play FIFA "which one Goldy Goldstein". He's been a little too young for the family days but I was worried he'd never get a chance to meet him as a North player.

Re Comben - I agree on his talent and think he seems a fantastic kid (which matters when you weigh it all up) to have at the club.

But there were massive red flags over his continuity for the 2-3 years leading into the draft and it's played out that way for his 3 years in the AFL system. Has he managed even 15 games at any level in that time?

Agree with everything else. Just know that 'feeling' when you have a player in the ressies shooting the lights out and you think they could step up. Campbell was 100% that - not the most nimble guy but commanding, smart and if given a run of games can do ok. Not really seeing it with the other 2 year although they are younger.

Hate to keep harking back but when Petrie and Daw were doing their VFL time they were standing on bloke's heads in the ruck, clunking big grabs up forward on a consistent basis and making any part-timer at that level look like shit. Not seen Xerri and CJ able to do the same.

CCJ was a panic move from a bunch of amateurs who assumed Xerri genuinely wanted out & was as good as gone (except he actually wasn't). It was plain as day he wanted more minutes as a primary Ruckman and his actions were to pressure the FD into achieving that outcome.

I'm guessing he and his management weren't expecting a panic mode, amateur hour response, with the list management running out and burning a second rounder plus change on a gettable CCJ, but here we are.

Also, I don't think Comben was ever a factor either way.

All my opinion of course.

Yes there were red flags and hence why he slipped that far in the draft I would assume. But don't know.
His injuries were all related and interestingly I turned off the VFL yesterday as my hangover couldn't cope. I watched some Charlie highlights from his brief u18's games and his knee was strapped.

Again we do believe we have fixed it happening again, and the knee was pre-existing so with it not being strapped maybe we can assume that is also now ok.

So Goldy/Comben ruck combo for 2023 is my thinking. Goldy two years and Edwards two years to get cracking. Maybe a third if needed for Goldy.

Trade value more if players contracted?
That’s all I can come up with, we’ve got a group of 4 young promising rucks, with 2 key forwards at present. Seems a little lopsided.

They probably also wanted to be seen as able to land a wanted player. Even though we'd already gotten Stephenson and Corr just prior.

I think that was a huge part of it. They knew the history with Martin et al and felt landing "anyone" was a real feather in the cap.

Plus some kind of metrics based hardball with their own players.

He’s a machine.

I’ve been vocal on his sporadic soft efforts, but he’s our best ruckman by far.

Shits on Xerri and CCJ from a great height.

And **** Noble for trying to phase him out at the start of the the season.

It's interesting how people have different views on games.

I actually thought Hickey beat Goldstein and was more damaging yet here we are hearing he played a great game.

Maybe it sits somewhere in the middle, thought Goldstein did some very nice work, but I thought Hickey hurt us quite a bit.
I agree with you that he was not as influential as hickey but I’m also somewhat bias and in the minority that I think noble was right to start to phase Goldy out for our younger ruckman
