Suggest he have a chat with Boomer, that will put his heart in the right place :D

Boomer is about to embark on either his 6th or 7th straight one year contract. In my view his willingness to accept one year extensions has almost certainly extended his career.

In my opinion Ben Jacobs chose the smart option also to accept the one year extension. Levi's situation is different however because in my view the monetary difference/level of certainty of the contract - as distinct from the relative potential cultural differences of one club from another - makes his decision to leave less difficult.

I think we also need to bear in mind that when the time comes, if a player's performance has dropped off, club's act with ruthlessness in terminating players careers. In 3 years time Levi might have lost some of his value. He might not get another contract or it may be only very short term and not particularly lucrative. The same may apply in 4 years time but I believe that he is entitled to opt for the extra certainty that the 4 year deal provides.

Really though all I am saying is lets not bag the bloke too much now. If he goes to the Pies then we can bag him when he takes the field against us next year.

All true. But we did pay him a decent wage for 6 years while he under performed. So you cant blame us either.

I'll be interested in what old mate Pickers has to say on off the bench on sen on Sat morning. Hope Hutchy will ask him about Levi. Old mate Pickers didn't like it when Hutchy was asking about Levi last Sat.

"They just have to get the deal done...I've got a soft spot for North....blah, blah, blah..... cut to avuncular Australian vernacular and gentle ribbing of Hutchy" while singing this song in his head:

I'm not blaming North at all. In fact I'm not blaming anyone (apart from Pickering). I'm simply trying to view it from his eyes in terms of monetary compensation and if I was in his shoes, I would probably opt for the greater reward and inherent security in the longer deal.

In terms of the "decent wage for 6 years" bit, I think he was a bit hard done by for some of that time. It seemed to me that he didn't always get rewarded as quickly as he should have when he played well at Werribee and then when he did get in, despite some pretty handy performances, he seemed to get the chop ahead of others who had performed at lesser levels.

It would not surprise me one bit if that is something that has also helped to influence his decision.

It doesn't get mentioned much but post-career opportunities like media, coaching etc are assisted greatly by being part of a successful team.

I think players should factor that (long term profile) in too when considering the financial component of their deals.

Heaps of multi-flag players from Brisbane and Geelong appeared to just walk into assistant coaching roles upon retirement. Don't think you'll see quite the same demand for Melbourne players circa 2006-14.

apparently collingwood offering pick 30 for Levi and north are waiting for the beams deal to go ahead so lions give up pick 25.... 25 or 30 are both shit offers.
patfull to gws for pick 21 - 21 to pies then 21+30 to North?

Single club players tend to do better in getting into the media too.

Pick 30 can GAGF.

I'm happy to pay Graham Wright to conduct our negotiations for Levi.

After his little O'Rourke performance he showed he ain't getting any worse at this stuff.
A first round and second round pick upgrade sounds about right for a high pick that has done nothing in two years. Hawthorn will probably make him into a gun but I didn't think that trade looked as much of a steal as some do.

Somehow I reckon we'd have just flung our 1st rounder straight at em.
