He wasn't high on the mock drafts - this is why some people are questioning taking his so highly or in front of others. I was one of them, then I heard why we have taken him over the likes of the Whitlocks (sp?) and Shanahan; his aggression, second efforts, desperation to win the contest. These traits are exactly what I loved about Jack and Lynch. You can't take you eye of them or be hurt, figuratively and literally, because they do not give up or shirk contests. Even if they are up against multiple opponents they bring the ball to ground and create space. I see this kid doing the same.

What I'm really excited about is the forward combination of Faull, Armstrong and Laylor, all of them play differently, all of them are dangerous. Great recruiting!!!
We've had so many key forwards fail since drafting Jack. Vickery, Griffiths, Elton, McBean, CCJ, Ryan*.

I think out of that lot, you would say Vickery was the most aggressive/competitive? And it's not really a trait I would say was his strongest. Maybe Griffiths?

If you look at the last 3 at least, they are all over 2m+, I don't remember ever seeing any of them crash a pack and they're too tall and not agile enough to really have strong second efforts and win the ground ball. Seems we decided that kind of player isn't working. Go for a guy that will win the ball with effort in the air or on the ground because once you get to AFL level, height alone doesn't mean anything if you can't compete.

During the draft if we went Armstrong at 14 and Faull at 23 I would've been happier but in the end we've got both so I guess it cancels itself out.
I like the sound of his competitiveness but it looks like his ball use by foot is iffy at best.

Can someone else elaborate on this as his kicking action looks far from convincing in those youtube clips.

Happy to have Jonty at Tigerland... I went to the U18s Coates League GF to watch some of the other boys (Armstrong in particular) and besides Ashcroft who tore it up that day, Jonty was the one who caught my eye the most with his movement and positioning. Good get!
Watched him a week earlier against the charges he kicked 5 and won the game for the rebels his ability to compete is outstanding. Love this selection

He is a thumping kick and accuratel.his 5 goal haul in preliminary final the wind was very strong at RSEA Park he had no problems converting

We have loved Jonty all year. Has always been one of our tall targets. His work rate without the ball and willingness to.compete at ground level set him apart from Shanahan and Armstrong. The fact we also got Armstrong is a bonus. Armstrong and Faull will be our next Lynch and Jack pairing.
Spot on Mr grock.100,% agree

Do a bit more homework R1 kpp in recent years have Set themselves apart from the rest of the pack in terms of the ones who fire or not
You just quoted a bunch of bs pics taken in like 30/40s or at best r2 keep it relevant to the r1 pics we just took for clarity . Saying oh damson at 52 wasn’t much good , why would these blokes be any good is mind numbing

I said a few weeks back that I didn’t want a nice tall fwd, I wanted one that crashed packs as well as second efforts and hard running. A Treacy rather than a Max King.

Looks like I got my wish. Didn’t know what his ceiling might be but I knew he was the most competitive.

Surprised we took him that early but obviously others were lurking. Love the pick.
Apparently Gws were keen

Let's all remember that the club most crying out for tall forwards, Collingwood, originally had the pick we used on Jonty (the first key forward taken in the draft).

Hope they enjoy Lachie Schultz.
