Jeez he speaks well. Just as Liam Shiels has immediatley moved into a key recruiting role for us, I'm sure Parker will become an assistant after his deal ends.

This is the beauty of getting Clarko as we have, it really builds out the whole club in a way we struggled to before.

Ignore age, we've struggled to attract quality players at the time of the trade for 15 years.

Our only recruitment wins based on the player's standing at the time imo were Higgins and Anderson.

While NDS was high quality he was being actively pushed out for a compo pick. Waite was proven elite but happily undervalued by his previous club and the industry.

In the last 5-10 years guys like Daniel, Parker and Darling were saying "thanks but no thanks".

On paper, it's a big symbolic win to net players with their resumes and a point to still prove. That's down to Clarkson's presence.

This is why the shitcanning of Brady annoys me so much. People act like he hasn't had the hardest job in footy for years, that's only now getting easier given Clarko can addd some heft.

Should absolutely, unequivocally be appointed captain.

I am stuck here.

I get all the arguments to not do it. I really do.

We have been shit for so long and we hunt to bring the bloke in to provide leadership to get us out of where we are, give him the title and the authority to do it.

I don't care about existing players feeling a bit annoyed at it, f*** their ego, I am tired of losing and this should be a get on the bus or get run over by it moment.

Brady is an interesting one.

Whilst I don't think he makes every post a winner (who does?), he also cops it OTT on here as if he operates in a vacuum.

First hand observation - he would genuinely do anything for the club. Totally invested and a smart, genuine bloke.

Made some booboos along the way but hardly like he was being mentored by Brian Cook, Graham Wright and Kinnear Beatson when he arrived straight into the unprecedented Covid year under/alongside a terrible president, new CEO and senior coach rapidly spiralling out of control.

I'm happy to critique him but anyone who pins pick 25 or the follow up Mattlock deal on him alone is being mischievous.

Yep, agree on all.

People also don't understand just how on the nose we were in 2020/21/22.

Like, nobody wanted to come and those who did, their clubs knew they could overcharge because of how desperate we were.

There's a lifecycle to being a supporter eh?

Bit like the WA deal responses from some.

"I just want 11 home games in Melbourne".

I mean yeh, we all do. But over time most supporters grasp the basics and that we need to bring in $X a year to survive let alone thrive. Nobody is just handing you that. Unless you're a franchise of course

Apart from the "Big 4" with their many 'rig the game' advantages that brings (and even then) - you're going to have find some other shtick to survive as a Vic. No exceptions.

Richmond played in Cairns. Dogs stole Ballarat. Dees play in Darwin. Geelong suck off politicians. Etc.

Taking it back to Brady, and again I don't think he's perfect, let's consider the common lines of attack.

Overpaying for Daniel. Pretty well discussed how this deal would've played out. Not on Brady's head alone unless he was willing to kidnap Sam Power or front up to Clarkson to explain he didn't land the player he'd seduced.

Not landing some far fetched target player in a BF wank post. E.g. Sam Darcy, Dan Houston etc. Not sure other than money and club image how he was expected to overcome existing club ties or off-field "inducements" on offer?

Our inability to land players while stable and in ascendance during 2013-2016 was on us, ie list managers, recruiters, coaches.

Not being able to do it 2020-2023 is just not as simple.

The Club should seize the moment and make him Captain.

His conference reeked of a bloke who's bought in and his plain - clear message - speaking style is exactly what we need with this horde of young players coming through.

With his reputation, a Club led by him could easily attract quality players from other Clubs.

The fact that after Shaw was released from his obligations, we couldn't even get people like Michael Voss willing to be interviewed for head coach just shows how unappealing a destination Arden St was.

Player managers would only use us to bump up deals they had on the go, idea we could initiate stuff laughable

For me, our current situation reminds me so much of the 70’s. We got Barassi, we got Davis, Rantall and Wade. We saw a light!
The Clarkson effect is real. Hopefully our 3 new recruits can have the same impact to our players and club through their leadership, experience and performance.

Difference being that Barassi was only three years removed from his latest flag winning coaching performance when he got here. And won a flag in his third season.

Clarkson was eight and we’re sure as shit not winning the flag this year.

Did Barassi have to take a significant break because bullshit allegations were levelled at him though
