Luke Parker
Luke Parker has plenty of football ahead and has already compiled a resume packed with impressive achievements. Since landing at the Sydney Swans via the 2010 AFL Draft, he has won a 2012 premiership medal, earned All Australian selection and won two Bob Skilton medals. In 2015, he was added to the club’s leadership group at the age of just 22, and has led the team as a co-captain alongside Josh Kennedy and Dane Rampe since 2019. While Parker is among the league’s elite midfielders, his strong marking and expert game awareness make him a genuine threat when rotating through the forward line.

Luke Parker

Geez we miss the bloke on the right.

Even with his current fitness we don't lose the Port game by more than 50 points because he would have demanded his team mate pull their weight.
Saw a clip of parked mocking shiel and it was like a vision of past and future, was Kennedy, Errol and Chad in the background lol.

Even if Parker isn't as quick as some others i back him to continually run and provide a marking presence in the forward line which we definitely need. Also alot of the tackling small forwards do isn't really based on speed but more so in the crumb scenario etc

Cooked

I hope it ages badly but he is finished , pace in the game and he is done.

Sub at best if everyone's fit

Do you ever think about not making snap judgements? Your knee must get sore from jerking every week.

He’s the one doing the cooking more like it 👨‍🍳

I may have been a bit quiet about Parker in the first half but he repaid the faith for me touting him up in the last month. Give me Parker's goals over phantom tackles every day of the year

Yep great second half and I was too strong in the first half sorry, just frustrated.

But the first he was worst on .

He turned it on though .

Need four quarters of it or sub maybe , but sub feels too late. Laverde ran off him early but his smarts got him going. Also takes his chances

No need to apologise, mate. We all talk shit on here.

I just don't think he got any opportunity in the 1st half.
I believe 1 centre bounce attendance (where he halved the contest), limited minutes on ball and we really struggled to get the ball into our fwd line to give him an opportunity up there.

IMO he & Heeney turned the game early 3qtr and much like last week I was frustrated that it too so long for Luke to be given a run in the middle.

He can certainly play the fwd role, but he impacts when he get minutes on ball.
I think the mix needs to be better and he needs to get more minutes on ball from the get go.

Wasn't he being marked by Jayden Laverde in the first half, giving away 10 centimetres and nothing that went in his direction was anything but a high ball in the first half.

He was absolutely not the worst on in the first half that's just ridiculous. What did McLean, Adams or Mills do in the first half to put them ahead of him?

You were entitled to be annoyed. 20 entries to 10 against a non finalist from 10th place. We needed to finish them off like that & we did Kingy.
Very noice.

What's that got to do with Parker though? He was sat up forward.. As soon as he went into the middle in the third everything turned around.

He was non-existent in the first half. Didn’t touch the ball in the first quarter.

Seems to really struggle to get into games.

Solid second half but he sets a low base after the first half that things couldn’t get any worse in the second.

Out of interest what did you make of Rowbottom and Grundy's first quarters? One touch each playing most of the quarter in the middle or following the ball around while Parker was stuck up forward..

Didn't love Horse's response when asked about Parker's future.

"Let's just enjoy the moment"

I know, what else is he supposed to say, but could very easily be interpreted as one last hurrah.
To be fair, not sure what else he is going to say. If he wants to go at this point, while disappointing, it would be understandable, and I don't expect we will stand in his way - especially if some silly Melbourne club offered him 2 or 3 years. Equally want him to stay and play on and get to play 300 for our club.

He was terrific in the second half and he stood up when we needed him to do so. But equally, his overall effectiveness isn't going to suddenly improve. He is on the slide that every player gets on at some point in their career - its call father time and it catches up with everyone.

However - I still think he has a lot to offer. With the right match up in the forward line, he is a good mark, can lead and mark, and is a good reliable kick for goal.

Still think we could easily get a season or two out of him yet playing the Jude Bolton style role - mainly forward, but with bursts through the middle.

If it come a big game later in the year, and we need someone to get stuck in late and make a difference with some inspirational hard dirty work, he's the bloke I want thrown in there. If that means we have to put up with some periods where he struggles (like the first half) then so be it.

He will be helped by the return of Paps too - another dangerous forward they have to worry about. Further down the list of 'forward targets' Parker gets, the lesser quality defender he will get, and the more damage he can do.
