I said earlier this year that Lloyd was being phased out. That opinion was ridiculed by a few

Yet here we are.

I have seem no evidence that Lloyd is being “phased out”. If he continues to play poorly, he may be dropped, but Horse seems to trust him for now.

If Mills developed capsulitis after his injury, that takes a long time to loosen up( experience), but capsulitis is mostly for over 40's, so I would be surprised if so.

I don't know what the solution is in the short term, but we desperately need bigger bodied midfielders.

It doesn't happen every week, but we just seem to have no answer when someone like Dangerfield or Taranto or Yeo or Petracca start to get on top.
Has been a writing on the wall for a number of years and failure to address. I don't buy the BS that all those type kids go early in the draft as an excuse. If you are not getting those top 10 picks then ffs take a punt on a big bodied kid down the pecking order a bit and and at least look like you are trying to fix a deficient part of the ground. We are mid jets in comparison to some midfields. To be honest seeing McInerney with the frame of a 400mtr runner at a centre bounce would have Oliver, Petracca and Viney pissing themselves.

Honestly didn't think Heeney had it in him to play at such a high level so consistently. It has been a welcome surprise.

Gulden is getting more attention than last year but is still doing well to impact the game and seems to be building into the season really well.

On the negative side we need to bring in some tackling coaches and really put a focus on improving it. Some of our players have terrible tackling techniques where they come in on the wrong angle, try to tackle too high up and don't drive their legs through the tackle and just get brushed off easily. Our players should be looking at Heeney to see what a fantastic tackling technique looks like.
I will own up here and say neither did I. Put my hand up here and say I have been pretty harsh on him for a fair while because of the amazing talent he has and failure to use it. Was fast becoming an enigma. Having said all that the way he is playing at the moment outside of his amazing ability on show, his commitment, spirit and courage is giving me glimpses of a Paul Kelly Warrior type season. So if I have been a tad hard on the bloke there is my apology with that very comparison.

Anyone disappointed in what Florent is producing atm and where he is at?

He hasn’t come on in imo
Looks very unsure of himself. He is a very polarising player. At times last year I thought he was finally becoming the player i thought he was capable of. Even glimpses over the first two weeks of this year I thought the same however some of the atrocious disposal and dumb decisions the last 2 weeks I am way back on the fence. One thing I won't doubt is his courage or effort but I am a big body language believer as I was when I coached myself and he is a confidence player who looks to doubt himself as some clangers start to mount.

I would describe my feelings on Florent's year as 'whelmed.'

I don't find him particularly good, but I don't find him particularly bad either.

Not really breaking lines or hitting targets like you'd want him to, but if there's a lasting image of him from the first five games - other than being seemingly MIA - it's keeping his eyes on the ball to take important marks in defence on his opponent.
Always does.

It's a difficult one to manage, but the bad stuff is bloody horrid
What he needs to learn is he is not a steam roller or he will ever be Josh Kennedy. Needs to stay in his lane and also have a little less of an opinion of himself. Will still say as I have before play to his strength along with doing the one percenters including defensive run and could win a Brownlow.

Grundy was our equal leader for centre clearances today with Heeney, the top 3 were all Eagles including Reid.
I know a few are indifferent but I'm wrapt with the way he is going 5 weeks in at a new club. Just his energy at the contest has been a bonus as much as anything else. His ability to give a second effort for a bloke his size is fantastic.

I think his ruck work is excellent

Umps hate him, he has cut the frees down , but he gets nothing.

Also thought the more he plays the better he plays for longer

Yep Grundy is surely getting the Sydney treatment from the umps it seems. I wonder what his FA stats were over the course of his career because he seems to be averaging at least 2 against every game.

Expect after the opening round where he used clever tactics to beat Gawn, the AFL issued a directive to the Umps.

What a suprise!!!

I assume everyone has the Dogs over us, GWS and Port as a contender this year given their margin of victory was the biggest?

A lot of discussion about personnel but I think the ‘issue’ is more about attitude. Chads first shot at goal from the 50 - with the wind behind him - was pitiful. It was representative of a lot of the team - a casual approach that led to stupid mistakes and then more stupidity to make up for it.

I think we are lacking those hard heads that drive the standards in a team. Everyone is looking around and waiting for some else to stand up.

The same attitude that has shown up in recent grand finals also showed up in this game. Basically the players need to decide if they are prepared to do whatever it takes.

Or not …

I agree and he is a serial offender at that blazing shot for goal where he seems to have blinkers on. It was Cavalier chest beating BS that as you say needs to be reigned in by the blokes that continually lead by example.

this sums it up ... i think we went in complacent and a bit lazy, which is remarkable (and friggin disappointing!) after the previous week's blown opportunity
hopefully adams and eventually parker will be the hardheads that help get rid of the attitude problems
heeney and eventually grundy (as he gets more comfortable in the team), too, can be important in that regard ...

Agree, we are a little rudderless in that respect at the moment.

I think (hope?) that this gets addressed with the imminent returns of Parker and Mills + the adaptation of Adams as an informal leadership group type.

I've just moved a whole heap of posts re Kelli Underwood/commentary in general to the Random Opinions thread. Please continue it there if you wish. I haven't deleted any of the comments because I think it's a good and important discussion to have, and I think there's merit on both sides of the argument.

My only reminder would be to try and keep the name-calling or personal attacks out of it.

I think it comes down to coaches and leaders addressing casual efforts or attempts to be cute during the week i.e. give players a general bake (during the game as well if needed), then address specific examples with the guilty players with game tape individually.

I think there's only so much we're able to do on field (with the personnel we have), though I don't mind leaders reminding others to play the percentages, work hard.

Parker is an odd one, he can either pick the team up and carry us, like JPK used to (see 2016 GF) or he can be just as guilty at repeat hacked kicks, getting done HTB while trying to bust through 3 tacklers. Just never sure which leader we'll get. Still, he will always put the effort in, even if sometimes he should give it off.
