Luke Parker
Luke Parker has plenty of football ahead and has already compiled a resume packed with impressive achievements. Since landing at the Sydney Swans via the 2010 AFL Draft, he has won a 2012 premiership medal, earned All Australian selection and won two Bob Skilton medals. In 2015, he was added to the club’s leadership group at the age of just 22, and has led the team as a co-captain alongside Josh Kennedy and Dane Rampe since 2019. While Parker is among the league’s elite midfielders, his strong marking and expert game awareness make him a genuine threat when rotating through the forward line.

Luke Parker

Especially since everyone insisted throughout the year the club wasn't doing anything wrong and wouldn't lead to any animosity.
It's not like he is not contracted for 2025.
Luke just wants an extra year or 2.
All parties are doing the right thing here.
A 6 week suspension perhaps didn't help things.

The club didn't do anything wrong. If there's any animosity that would be disappointing from Parker.

I don't think letting a club champion who finished the previous season in decent form languish in the VFL behind 2 guys who finished the year out of the squad showed a heap of respect.
They finished the year out of the squad because the coaches went with Parker. Not selecting someone is not being disrespectful.

And in all honesty I think Parker was lucky to have a spot by the end of the year. I for one would've preferred his spot to go to a pressure forward like Cleary.

He was in the VFL after breaking his arm and was regaining his match fitness. If he hadn’t gotten suspended, he would have played the following week to give Adams a break.

He should have come straight in after dominating his first VFL appearance, 2 at most. Then when he came back, it was as the sub. It's clear he was behind others in the pecking order.

That's talking in silly riddles. The coaches went with Parker ahead of Adams and Wicks by the end of the season because he quickly showed that he offered more than both. The fact he was kept in the VFL and in the sub vest behind 2 players he offers more than in both the midfield and up forward was embarassing.

Is he being traded for Dylan Stephens?

But the fact is he was still chosen. When it mattered most he was in Horse's best 22. But as I said, even that was a dubious call, which speaks to how line-ball Parker's spot was. It's not "embarrassing" for anyone in a line-ball spot to not be in the team.

If Parker thinks he is that much better than what Adams and Wicks were earlier in the year, so is therefore entitled to feel disrespected for not being picked over them, then he is not the person and clubman I believe him to be.

Did he really offer more though? or did Horse see him as the safe option?

Wicks cops a lot of flack but maybe it's the team setup that refuses those players to shine... How about we adjust the side to allow Wicks to shine. I can't sit here and believe someone like Kai Lohman is a way better player than Sam Wicks. Problem is Brisbane actually plays its forwards as traditional forwards whilst Wicks is given instruction to play up the ground and get forward after the fact. I'm sick of seeing other teams forwards popping up like sprinklers every time they go forward whilst ours (who are part time mids) are sucked up the ground working backwards.

tbh im not fussed re parker leaving. We have too many hybrid players and not enough specialists.

Not only that, but he managed to put Adams off side in doing the backflip.

So much went wrong this year, particularly in a year where almost everything went right.

Mills injures his shoulder. Gets given sole captaincy despite missing more than half the year. Rampe, who relinquished his captaincy ended up captaining the team in the grand final.

We start the year 13-1, Horse keeps Parker in the 2s, brings an underdone Mills back into the side. Team has its worst period of the season.

So many decisions this year just baffled me. There were so many avenues open to us throughout the year given our 13-1 start, but the ones in charge just about ballsed them all up.

Unequivocally yes he offered more. Wicks' spot was borderline untenable when he was dropped. He was offering nothing.

Adams is a closer case but Parker's versatility to go forward and kick goals put him in front there too.

If Parker wasn't injured to start the year, there is no chance Adams would have started over him in the midfield. When he came back and proved his fitness in the VFL he should have come in either as a straight swap, or for Wicks in a hybrid role.

Being a good clubman doesn't mean simply accepting not playing and saying yes sir, no sir because the coach makes the wrong call. He didn't pout or jump up and down about it. He continued to work, came back in and contributed, but now is going to seek an opportunity elsewhere.

Holding that against him is completely absurd to me.

If when it mattered most he was seen as best 22 that underlines how laughable it was he wasn't viewed that way earlier in the year. You're bending over backwards to defend the club.

I lost track of how many in the media said the equivalent of "Parker must play finals". It wasn't dubious or a line ball at all. You're making stuff up.

And there were plenty of fans questioning his spot. Parker was one of the last to secure his spot in the 22 for finals and was then one of our worst-performing players in the finals. That's line ball to me. I'd have preferred Cleary in the forward line and I think based on his finals games Parker was no better off than Adams or Wicks who he was supposedly so much better than.

If JPK wasn't given another year then anyone else & their managers can stick it up their clackers.
The last player at our club that can hold his head high in a Grand Final.
Everyone else was expendable from the moment the siren sounded in the 2022 GF.

The 2024 GF only rubber stamped it as far as I'm concerned.
Not one player on our list should feel aggrieved with whatever happens this trade period.

We paid our money to watch that shit show live.
I'll still buy my membership but I also want to see aggressive list management.

The club & coaches got these players the opportunity to play in multiple grand finals.
Parker has played in 5. Gary Rohan played in 2.
Rampe & Lloyd 4. Warner, Mills, Gulden, McCartin, Cunningham, Florent, etc, etc played in 2 grand finals.

They have all been given a charmed run by this club to give them every opportunity to nab themselves a flag.
None of them, since JPK tried to drag us over the line, have been entitled to touch a p'ship medallion let alone win one.

I follow the red & white, the players are just passing through.
Paul flipping Kelly only got to play in 1 GF & had a big crack at it.
He'd be bleeding watching the opportunities these blokes have had.

I love Luke Parker & I am extremely happy that there is a club out there that thinks he has 2 or 3 full season's of AFL left in him, let alone 1. But I can't watch the club sit still or go backwards to the bottom.
A few steps back is ok by me but if they are past their best then there are Superannuation Clubs like North out there more than happy to pay for the twilight years.

I don't think anyone is really arguing that the time time might be right to move on, or that the club should extend him, but that doesn't change the fact that his situation was poorly managed by the club this year.
