And another player from Yarrawonga!

He’s already got a connection with a couple of future teammates in James Jordon and Caleb Mitchell, who also hail from Yarrawonga on the NSW-Victoria border.

He wouldn't be a Campbell replacement unless some other magnets are moved.

I think Campbell should start at half forward next year anyway and we should look to start introducing him to the midfield set-up and see how he goes there.
Yes, Campbell's role needs to be more mid/wing/forward. Why he was ever played back is beyond me. He actually defended well as a small forward & he provided pressure as a junior in both the mids & forward.

Doesn't get it enough...........

Wouldn't surprise. They clearly picked him to play sooner than later.

I think he's not that likely to play round 1 or even at all next year. But supposing he does play round 1, I like the idea of him taking Florent's spot and moving Florent forward. Got a better idea anyone? If he takes Campbell's spot, where does he play?

Why do you say he's from Yarrawonga? I've read he's from Albury and played for Lavington in the Hume League.

Think Jake LLoyd might need to start looking over his shoulder.....

I'm surprised how soon people are expecting Bice to impact. I'm not here to talk him down but I think it's unlikely he finds his way into the team early in 2025 without injuries. Yes, his age improves the chances of his playing early, and, yes, we wouldn't have drafted him if we didn't think he might add to our team but... I'm struggling to fit our existing players into a best 22/3, never mind a recent VFL graduate. I think Dattoli and Paton look the best chances of the new recruits to debut early. But anything could happen over the pre-season and maybe that changes.

Can't agree about Paton. I see him as a potential replacement/cover for Cunningham unlikely to get a game unless Harry is injured or seriously out of form.
For mine Bice is a classic medium defender mixing defence and attack (according to his stats) who will compete with Roberts and Fox or possibly (but hopefully not) Florent, Lloyd or Campbell. The backline might have room for two of them, especially if Cox decides to run Roberts in midfield (not my choice yet but who knows).
If Cox is looking for more hardness Bice might have something to offer.

I agree with you about the role you see for Bice v Paton but I see more chance of Cunningham being unavailable for selection than Bice quickly jumping to be top 2 out of Roberts, Fox, Florent, Lloyd and Campbell and himself (if I'm reading you right, which I suspect I'm not). I nominated Paton because he is already a seasoned AFL player who proved himself at the level and who only has to overcome injury (which he seems to have done) to put himself in the selection frame. The others have more to prove.

I see him competing with Roberts and Fox only hopefully because Florent, Lloyd and Campbell won't be under consideration for the backline.
I only see him getting a run if Roberts switched to the midfield or Fox was used forward, neither of which I think is likely.
Rereading, my expression was very muddy. Sorry.

I also think we have a properly organisined VFL side with players in the right positions.
Last year we had a dearth of defenders and forwards in VFL. Now we don't.
This may be a secondary effect of the draft/trade decisions. We can thus train/develop the VFL players appropriately.
