To our members and supporters,

Today we made the decision to cut playing ties with Tarryn Thomas.

Right now, like many of our North Melbourne people, I’m feeling a range of emotions – frustration, anger, disappointment but overall, sadness.

This wasn’t a decision based on emotion – it was driven by incontrovertible, uncontested facts – but I want to be clear it wasn’t, and isn’t, easy.

At North Melbourne we have a proud and long history of supporting our people, even in the face of external criticism.

As you know, Tarryn’s behaviour has been a concern for some time. Our duty of care to Tarryn and to the wider community meant we chose to work with him to address his behaviours, particularly in regard to his treatment of women.

It’s why we accepted our responsibility to seek help for him. It was a complex and difficult situation but we were all united in our determination to get the best outcomes for Tarryn and those around him.

Tarryn came back to the club midway through last year pledging to be better.

We are all bitterly disappointed that he has relapsed. And he is now out of chances.

Last year he was afforded the privilege of doing his intensive education and rehabilitation programs within the structure of our footy club. From here he’ll have to find that structure elsewhere.

We’ll continue working with the AFL, the Players Association and Tarryn’s manager and his support network to ensure that he gets the help he needs to be better.

But he won’t play for the North Melbourne Football Club again.

Out of respect for her privacy I won’t say anything about the woman who brought these allegations to the AFL other than to commend her bravery and the dignity with which she has handled herself throughout this process. She deserved better.

It really shouldn't be understated how well written this is. Class act the entire way. Really hard time for all involved and she has covered everything that needed to be said with genuine sincerity and class. It was the same last year with all of the Clarko stuff, didn't get caught up in the mud slinging, communicated strongly and appropriately at the right time.

I don't remember the exact wording of previous communications before her, but I remember the letters to the members when they let Boomer, Drew, Spud and NDS go and also when they decided to part ways with Ben Brown (two much smaller issues in the scheme of things), the communication felt quite condescending and lacked the same touch of class and sincerity. I think that definitely contributed to member and supporter angst with how those decisions were handled.

Very lucky to have her, we are in good hands going forward.

Thank god our next wave of top-end talent are also great people (Sheezel, Wardlaw, McKercher, Philips, Powell, Larkey, LDU, ?George, ?Duursma). And a whole second tier of average-talent, great-seeming people (Scott, Lazarro, K. Dawson, Hardemann, Tucker, Shiels)
Have we ever had that mix of talent and steady heads?

Everyone knows how this story goes. TT reforms, moves to another club, makes AA and probably wins a premiership.
Meanwhile North gets screwed again.
The only tiny positive out of this from a football perspective is there should be some money in the bank to go find a top quality player who may come to us if we improve this season.
I am so sick of the crap my poor club has gone through these last 5 years.

Looks like from this he won't have to serve the 18 weeks with another club. So in reality he doesn't serve a ban at all because he doesn't miss any games for which he's eligible to play as he doesn't have a club right now. A kick in the guts for all victims of nasty exes hey?

Anyone else feel we've been ratf^cked again by the AFL here? Stand by for the nauseating redemption story peddled by the grub Scott about how he turned him around away from the toxic environment of North.

I’m sympathetic toward your club and commend you for how much you tried to help your player. It’s very sad on multiple levels and for all involved.
However, please remind me when JDG was convicted of actual physical sexual assault as you put it?
From memory, both cases concluded with out of court settlements right, thus escaping conviction?

I'm no bothered though, this is a TT thread and there's really no need to compare to DeGoey, Stringer, or any others.

It’s why I would have waited til the suspension ended before making a call

If he kept clean for the 18 weeks then you can make a more informed call plus if he does nothing wrong in that time at least has value if you do want to trade

Plus given us more time to investigate also as it seems we were just looped in late

100% he will train the second half of the year, join Port where his old mate with no morals plays and be on their list next year.
He will finally work it out, someone else will pick him up for peanuts and will reap the benefits and we will cop it every which way.

Possibly but we have about 20 blokes OOC. They will now get games they might not have got if the AFL turned their usual blind eye.

Plus, we might actually spend the $700k next year on someone who might actually have the NMFC and their career as a priority.

Mate no one is touching him. Not in this day and age doesn’t work like that especially when women involved and women heavily being involved in football clubs these days. Sydney stack says hello Elijah Hewitt says hello. Yes TT is talented can play the game but as person his no good. Lots of talented footballers out there who just don’t want it enough and unfortunately Thomas is that

As a woman - who’s been a member of this club for many years and I would like to think has been pretty balanced in my thoughts towards Tarryn and the hope he could work with the club to be better - my thought now is relief that he’s gone.

Domestic violence (including where the woman is the perpetrator) is an absolute horror for our society. Too many people live in fear and pain because of it.

While I am never thrilled to see someone accused of what Tarryn was in our jumper. I was okay with the club supporting him for the meantime as I thought it would be valuable and his best chance to change. I wanted Tarryn to take the support he was given and learn and grow because I wanted to see someone realise they could be better.

However despite our assistance and care, he’s kept refusing to learn. I hate that even with the resources available, he couldn’t be “fixed” bit he made his choice and I am more than content with a consequence of that choice being his removal from the club.

He’s a good, could be great footballer, but he’s not worthy of being a Shinboner.
I sat down to write my thoughts and found that I didn't need to as Roobunny has summed it up beautifully. I too feel a sensnse of relief that this is now over.

I do agree with Todd Viney and hope that this can be a "circuit breaker" for Tarryn and that he can turn his life around.

I would like to thank the mods for their efforts with this thread. There are some people that have posted some truly awful things.

Agreed but the settlement was for the punch.
Sorry to see how this ended. Your club did their best for him.

This is what I posted in the previous thread and I'm happy the club sees things in a similar way.

Those of you that preached for indigenous mulligans for the guy can bugger off. White, Brown, Black, Trump Orange......it doesn't matter....if you're a multiple time ****wit you're gonna be held accountable.

I'm happy that we're no longer associated with that weasel of a manger too. (Birds of a feather)

Whilst the hype & noise from the practice game yesterday was a little over the top given it was just a practice game. It was however a breath of fresh air.....something good that you could watch, read about in regards to our players/club. A complete contrast to all the shit TT has brought over the last couple years. Players, officials, staff, fans are fed up with negativity being associated with our club and this is why we've made the right decision to move him on.

I hope the door hits you on the way out.
