I think Redman would struggle to get a game in most decent teams in the league.
I think at a decent club heā€™d be what the sum of his parts suggests he should be.

He has a lot of tools. The fact he isnā€™t yet all that he could be....right now Im
inclined to believe that reflects more on the club than Redman.

Really?

Redman is a good footballer. Played reasonably well today.
Can we compromise and suggest a trade then?

He is a dogged type without any standout attributes and would at best be the 6th best defender in any decent backline.

He impressed in his breakout year by bringing intensity and playing with a maturity that normally takes a couple of years to achieve. Feels now like that was his ceiling.

We have many bigger things to worry about and Iā€™m sure he will get lots of games this year. I just donā€™t think the future is bright for Mason.

thing is a good team would be able to drop a guy like redman into a functioning backline among experienced/decent players who can hold down their role and pick up a bit of his slack while he develops.
we're dropping him in with a bunch of other inexperienced/out of position kids and hoping for the best while our midfield gets steamrolled

What was wrong with that game?

One clear mistake was kicking it into a lunging Dixon who smothered.

Can't really recall another galling error. Got sold a hot potato that resulted in a HTB, a non-issue, and missed a spoil on Dixon (if you could call it a missed spoil).

He seemed to be running on top of the ground for the first time in a long time. Looked sharp, handled the ball cleanly and kicked it well. Looked like the Redman that I fell in love with.

Put Redman at HF where he can run into the middle at bounces. Or start him in the middle!!!
Hard but great kick and mark! And physical.
187cm 86 kg. Big bodied hard but with skill.
There it is!!!

A couple of years ago I was very keen to see how he'd go on a wing, his field kicking looked that good. If reports from yesterday are accurate, he's only just recovering his touch. I'd be loathe to put him in the middle or at HF as an experiment just yet. Let him get some consistency in his form line.

We can't spare him at half back at this point in time.

High-grade overload, will be managed through the week and pass a fitness test before selection
Defender Mason Redman is uncertain to play in the Donsā€™ Thursday night clash with Sydney after being medically subbed against St Kilda at half-time with hamstring awareness.

Murphy said Redman will be carefully managed this week to give the 23-year-old every chance to prove his fitness.

ā€œMason had a little bit of hamstring awareness throughout the game,ā€ he said.

ā€œGoing into half-time, there was a bit of awareness that it could be a strain, so we just took the precaution to take him early out of the game.

ā€œHeā€™s had an MRI and thatā€™s come back clear. He has some high-grade overload, so weā€™ll just have to manage him across the week.

ā€œHeā€™ll test his fitness over the next couple of days, but heā€™s still a chance to be available to play.ā€
