Ridley, McGrath and Redman all looking elite at the moment!
Just posted in the AA thread on the main board that I don't expect these 4 to be in the final team but all should b in the conversation for the squad. Genuinely all could be elite

I thought he was our best last night. His disposal and run and carry was elite and he was very solid defensively.
For mine his good games sit comfortably with the best HBF's in the league. The challenge for him is to elevate his down games to a better level - because he does throw them in now and again.

What has surprised me about him this season in general is him showing his ability to play on taller guys - which I hadn't really seen from him. Its really positive to be able to build more versatility into your defense because ideally you rock up with the same backline each game and they are just versatile enough to handle different forward dynamics without switching players in and out all the time.

All are elite.

The last 35 to 60 games from Redman and Ridley have been as good as anyone (can't remember when Redman last struggled whether it was 2020 or 2021).

Ridley hasn't been getting the freedom of players like Lever (who needs the freedom to be good) or Stewart (who can do it all anyway) so there will be an extended lag period on wider recognition.

McGrath has simply picked up where he left off last time he played as a small defender.

I think he'll leave us at the end of the year.
Because?

I think for the first time in a long time we're in a position to look attractive from a player retention perspective. Nobody is saying we've got a complete list but we've got a list that has significant scope for improvement and a coach who seems to be instilling a strong culture and mindset within the group.

Of course the wheels could fall off in the 2nd half of the year and not for the first time, but so far so good.

Not sure.

He spoke about how he liked the idea of player movement. Even went as far as saying players moving mid season would be good.
He hasn't signed yet. And will be getting good offers. I think us keeping him is 50/50.
Did you listen to his whole interview or just the bit where he was asked about the future of FA?

Clearly the bit about FA šŸ˜Ž

His ability to take the game on and link up play up the ground was amazing to see in the later stages of the game when we needed someome to stand up and show the boys that the game was theirs to take.

He is capable of the rare brainfade, but the only reason we even notice them is because he's very consistent for the majority of the time. I love his ask questions later attitude and the confidence he has in his skills, and I hope that continues to rub off on the rest of the group.

You get the feeling the boys feel more comfortable doing their part when they know Redman is going to do his.

He was asked about the future of player movements as a league, not his own plans.

Thats why I said 50/50
He was asked about the future of player movements as a league, not his own plans.
I know, but it gave an insight of his personal feelings about it.
I add it all up, and it gives me the feeling he is a 50/50 chance of leaving.

He's aggressively pro player movement.
He's a free agent.
He'd be getting good offers.
This contract will be the biggest of his career.

I think the contract we offer will determine if he stays or goes.

Perhaps, but I'd be shocked if 98% of the players didn't also agree with the sentiment.

I hope we are not at the point where most players want in-season trades

Any shape or form it takes, the majority of players are going to be in favour of any path that allows for greater movement and flexibility (Subject to players not being able to be traded against their wishes).
