It's what we here on the north board do. Ever wondered why the rest of big footy hate us?

I couldn't give a rat's arse about what the rest of BF think.

This was about shitful reporting concerning NMFC so I shared it here.

wouldnt worry about the today show richard wilkins has killed off 2 innocent actors using internet hoaxes as his resources.

A quick article about Boom Boom in the Herald Sun.

http://www.heraldsun.com.au/sport/a...ther-boomer-year/story-e6frf9jf-1226270252775

BRENT Harvey will defy his veteran status and continue to be a match-winner for North Melbourne this year, according to new captain Andrew Swallow.

Closing in on his 34th birthday, Harvey has enjoyed a sparkling summer, dominating a recent intra-club match at Aegis Park with three goals.

But he is unlikely to be restricted to the forward-50m this year, with the Kangaroos keen on using him in bursts in the midfield.

Approaching his 17th season, Harvey's fitness levels and recovery powers continue to amaze North officials.

The 323-gamer finished equal third in the club's best-and-fairest award last year.

Swallow, 24, said although Harvey would have preferred to keep the captaincy for a fourth year, he would continue to play major on and off-field roles for the Roos this year.

"I'm sure he (Harvey) will be a little disappointed because he loved the job," Swallow said.

"But he is also really aware what Simmo (Adam Simpson) did to allow him to have a year as captain when Simmo was still there. That was really important for him and 'Boomer' wanted to do same thing for us.

"I'm thrilled to have him here and hopefully it means he can play another one or two years of consistent, quality football. Because when he is up and going he is still one of our best players, if not our best player out on the ground."

The Roos want to perform strongly throughout the NAB Cup in a bid to get off to a fast start to the regular season.

However, Hawthorn has similar intentions and will provide tough opposition in the round robin opener, also including Richmond, at Etihad Stadium on Friday night.

Meanwhile, Daniel Wells is expected to sit out the NAB Cup and is touch and go for Round 1 of the season proper.

A question discussed every now & then umongst myself & my football loving friends (we all barrack for different teams) is WILL WE EVER SEE ANOTHER PLAYER REACH 400 GAMES?

In my opinion the last real chances were/are Robert Harvey (could have perhaps gone on a little bit longer, probably sick of all the bu££$#!t down there), Brad Johnson (injury finished him up pretty quickly), Dustin Fletcher (closest to the major milestone but realistically it's probably his last season) & Brent Harvey.

He's obviously got the hunger. He wants one more flag. A premiership as a mature player. To reach the top of the mountain after battling away for so long at the highest level after being there at such a young age, so long ago. He loves the young lads coming through. He has a new role as our next premiership captain's mentor. And he is as fit, running as well & as hungry as ever for the ball. The game is there & his position can surely be adjusted to suit for another 3 years + finals.
Can he go 4 more? Can Boomer play 400? Can Brent Harvey play the most AFL/VFL games of all time?

No, I'd love him to but there is no chance he will get to 400 games.
1-2 years left for Boomer. I'm not doubting his fitness at all, in fact game wise, he's still our best, but if Boomer is still playing at 37-38 then we haven't really done our job in developing our younger players have we?
Of course, there are a few exceptions like Fletcher and R.Harvey (although one suspects Banger played on as long as he could for the elusive flag) but realistically, we won't be a premiership threat until we at least make the finals. I mean look at Carlton, they've slowly become a threat, after making the finals for the past 3 years and only winning one final in that period. Even now the critics and judges will be circling come September.

Yes, but we're not Carlton.

We bought the shares back.

400 games is possible, but not probable.

We'll need to see how he is going in 16 months time.

what rubbish. If he''s still fit and in our best at 37-38 why the hell would you send him out to pasture just to let some buck come in? If he deserves a place in the side he stays.

When age catches up its catches up quickly. Boomer will know when his body cant take it anymore. One day in August he's going to say, f*** me, I cant do another preseason. I just hope that day comes in the back half of this decade!

I reckon we're looking at 350, and even then a lot of next years games would be solely in the forward line. I feel as though the sub rule may help, and we'd nurse him through particular games - no point in him travelling up to GWS, give him a rest etc.

A bit harsh how the article says the Roos and Hawks are champing at the bit to do well in the NAB Cup - oh and they play Richmond too. Aren't the Tiges interested?

I'm thinking Boomer can easily get to the 350-370 mark but then all it would take is 1 soft tissue injury and....

Club champion!!

Spot on.

It's definitely a year by year proposition, and I think it has nothing to do with us not being able to find better players, if Boomer is still going. While he can produce the sort of form we saw last season, he'd get a game in any of the 18 sides in the competition. The question is, how long can he keep it up?

I expect him to carve up again this year. Pencil him in for 30+ goals and 20+ touches a game.

400 games is a long way away. One more injury could do it, and there will be a lot of media pressure on him whenever he plays a couple of bad games.

Boomer has had to contend with the best tagger from the opposition for the last five years. If guys like Harper, Cunners and Basta keep improving then Boomer will find he's not attracting the best run with player. He could become very dangerous!

Jesus!! He's been pretty dangerous for the past 15 years I would have thought.

I know it can end quickly, but he's showing no signs of slowing down at all. I can't see retrement on the agenda until this happens.

I think Boomer's terrible elbow injury cruelled any chance he had to achieve the 400 milestone, as well as our lack of finals. To reach that mark you'd need everything going for you.

350+ makes him a legend of the club, and one of the greats of the AFL, and he'll deserve all the plaudits which come his way post his career.

I hope he can kick arse for us for another couple of years minimum.

Will anyone make it to 400 in the future? It's unlikely.

If Robert Harvey didn't have dodgy hammies then he may have made it.

Boomer could if the sub rule remains, as he hasn't had too many (soft tissue) injuries. He may may play two years through the middle, plus two as a sub or forward pocket, etc.

I remember thinking Johnny Blakey could play 400 but he slowed up quickly in his last season so hung up the boots. The same may be for Boomer, the last year is a significant decline... hard to know if he could go until 37-38 like Craig Bradley, but 350 should be in the bag unless he cops some serious injuries.

Thanks Brent.

The amazing thing about Boomer is that he hasn't lost any pace unlike Luke Power and I can't remember him having a soft tissue injury (Although I'm sure he has).

If he is managed properly, still has the desire, doesn't loose any speed and remains injury free I can see him playing 2-3 years.

I think he could kick 50 goals playing as a permanent small forward in the final year of his career.

Goodes is 32 and has played 300 games - quickest player to get there in the history of the sport. The way he played last year would suggest he has a few years left in him yet, barring injury. If that's the case then 400 could be possible, but unlikely.

The calf muscle is first to go, and when it does the countdowns on, could be his last year 2012.

Yeah, good call.
Not that I wish injury upon anyone, but he has been quite lucky in that regard. His pace & leap will probably slide sooner rather than later too.
I still think, if I had to bet on it, Harvey will finish with the greater number of games of their two careers when they're done.

Not sure about that, Harvey has 23 more games on the board (say a seasons worth) but Goodes is 2 years younger so I'd say he has time on his side to overtake him. Again though, injuries pending.
