đź’Ż and Phillip's was dropped at least 3 times from one of the worst teams of all time. Wouldn't net us a pick in the 30s ATM.

Here is swallows year as a 22 year old at the end of the season.

Phillips will have better stats than this. He averaged the same in 2023. He’ll no doubt improve again.

You say dropped from the worst team. Our midfield wasn’t the worst. Our midfield stacked up against most teams. You crazy man

A lot of negativity in here about Will. I don't get it.

He's developing at his own pace. The future of our club isn't relying on him being a star. We have a ton of young talents in the midfield.

We used a high pick on him but there are no non-academy players drafted after him that would be changing the course of this club. Some might say Logan McDonald but I'd put it at about a 20% chance of him still being at North if we drafted him.

I think that he's going to be a very good player and make some comments here look bad, but its also not a huge disaster if he doesn't make it. There's not a lot to worry about, here.

The most disappointing thing is the number of people on here who appear to have invested so heavily in Will failing. I really don't get why people attach their ego to their opinions when it comes to a football player, especially when the success of that player should be a cause for celebration.

A key player or two gets injured and the next in line 'miraculously' has a 40+ disposal breakout game.
We've seen this happen so many times. And then everyone acts shocked ... "where was this before!?"

It's a harsh game where we funnel what is in reality a set number of disposals (approx 350) through very few players.

I often wonder how many players throughout the ages never reached their potential simply bc they were never allowed to be that number 1 or 2 guy in the midfield.

I hope Wifi doesn't get pushed down the pecking order and forgotten, while at the same time I wonder whos spot he'll take.

Our current healthy midfield group is Simpkin, Wardlaw, Phillips, Powell, Lazarro & the wings.

And we are in preseason.

If we are 100% healthy then there is a chance that Phillips isn't starting in the middle. But we can't assume to be 100% healthy. He will attend a lot of centre bounces this year.

He will have oppurtunity.

Geez that's grim, just have to pray that some of LDU, Thomas & Mckercher will be fit or we're probably write offs from the first bounce.

You are so spot on with this. And the historic point of reference is Andrew Swallow getting injured and making way for young Ben Cunnington who was suddenly not a bust after all. And then history repeating when Cunners went down with cancer and LDU emerging as a breakout player rather than a bust.

More recently, you could trace Jason Korn Prances' on-field tantrums to the fact that he was not getting as much midfield time as he wanted, and the time he did get, he was required to block for LDU or be the defensive sweeper rather than the go to guy. Which of course, had to be the case when there were players ahead of him in the role he wanted.

So he’s been compared to Greg Williams (AFL legend), Andrew Swallow (club great) and Paddy Dow (draft bust). The BigFooty hyperbole in a nutshell.

I think someone said he can be similar to Chris Masten (215 games, a solid cog in a good midfield) which is the only reasonable comp I’ve seen.

Can’t recall that ever happening. You got any examples of that happening FlyHigh18?

The injury part is superfluous, it happens all the time when players take their chances...

Only concern is when not playing on ball can he adapt to playing elsewhere. Personally I like him as the bull in the centre dishing it out. Looked at home when able to play that role. Continually in the role will improve his consistency.

It’s mid or bust. He really doesn’t need to play anywhere else though.

What??? Negativity about young blokes here on Bigfooty???

Surely not. Never happened before in the history of the world, let alone the NMFC BigFooty board.

Andrew Swallow was a late inclusion for Liam Anthony in R1 2009, he only had 21 disposals in that game but he ended up winning the B&F that year

People shit canning young players on NMFC BigFooty is more certain than death in Texas. And the only thing more certain than that is when the player does manage to develop and become an A grader, it will be because "the penny finally dropped" rather than physical development, experience, and opportunity.
