I keep seeing the "hardened bodies" and "finals experienced players" lines being used for Hawthorn and quite frankly I think it's rubbish. They've played in a few finals and won a bradbury flag, big deal? The adrenaline will be pumping for our boys and I don't see how the finals experience line makes any difference, it's still the same game being played. I have a feeling Pavlich will explode on Saturday, he wants to prove himself in finals and has the chance to do so. I don't see Gibson keeping up with him if Pav is on his game.

Franklin, Rioli, Hodge and Burgoyne are obviously the biggest worries and I think if we can limit the damage done by these four (easier said than done), as well as our big game players firing up we are in with a chance, especially with the home ground advantage. With Tarrant and Ballantyne I'd give us a massive chance, but without them I will say we will need to have a blinder to get over the line.

If you seriously think that we accidently won the flag, then you have no idea.

You will find out tomorrow what finals experience is all about!!

Lachy Im dissappointed.

Maybe you should watch Harves press conference from after the Hawks game.

We have been gearing up for this for weeks. Freo by 28 points.:thumbsu:

Rough them up, make it violent.

No offence mate but if you go down that road you will get slaughtered. The one massive advantage Hawthorn has in the midfield is our size and our inside strength. If you try the above tactic the likes of Hodge, Mitchell, Lewis, Sewell and plenty of others will happily accommodate you. Plain and simple.

Fremantle can win only if they get the ball outside and into that hands of their runners. The Hawks will try and play it hard and tough inside to counter your outside speed. Sandilands is vital.

A tight game is expected from me and I really couldn't pick a winner.

10 first/second year players vs 1 for the Hawks will be the difference...

It's been our young guys who have repeatedly stepped up on the big stage this season. I'm more worried about our B Grade senior players; particularly since most of them play in defense.

Without getting into a 'mine is bigger than yours' argument. Our midfield size is one area we are clearly ahead of Hawthorn in; even ignoring Sandilands obvious advantage. Crowley, Pavlich, McPhee, Mundy and Morabito are all at least 190cm and 90kg.

Even the guys who do the midfield cameo for 30-40% of the game are bigish. Duffield (187cm & 88kg), Ibbotson (188cm & 84kg), Broughton (185cm & 88kg) and de Boer (189cm & 87kg).

Fyfe, Hill and Suban are skinny (comparatively) but they are more outside than in at this stage of their careers anyway.

Size around the stoppages is not an advantage Hawthorn have.

Yep. If anything what we lack is class around the clearances, especially so with Barlow gone.

Mundy and McPhee are not over 90kg (according to your very own football club website) and Pavlich is a part time midfielder at best.

But go on, try and bully us in the middle and see what happens.

As I said, Fremantle can win but it won't be by trying to play the tough guy in the centre. It will be outside where you have superior legspeed. I wasn't putting your club down, I really can't pick a winner of this one.

He and McPhee might be 89-90kg, but they aren't exactly small. Fact is, our mids all have at least 5-10 cm on your mids, and are either as fast or faster than yours. I'd put Hodge by far as the classiest midfielder between the two teams, with Mundy next best and Sewell/Mitchell being great accumulators. But our midfield plan is essentially to block out other teams offensive mids and let Sandilands do his thing. He's our main weapon, can win his own ball in huge numbers, and get it to our younger players on the outside.

It will be an interesting battle. Hawthorn should have the experience and class over us, but certainly not the physical presence in the middle.

Sorry, Mundy and McPhee are only 89kg according to our website. On the fan footy website which is what I went off, they are listed at 90kg (McPhee) and 91kg (Mundy).

Pavlich has been spending about 60-70% of his gametime in the middle since Barlow went down. Not full-time sure, but more than a few contests here and there.

I never said we'd be bullying Hawthorn, or 'trying to play tough' all I said was we have the advantage size wise. Hawthorns 'big bodies' keep getting talked about, but it is actually an area where Fremantle have a clear advantage; at least where it matters most which is around the ball.

At any rate, it's the class around the stoppages where Hawthorn have an advantage which is far more important than body size.

The reason people go on about the Hawks "hardened bodies" and "experience" is because it is true. Of course they didn't have much finals experiences themselves when they won the flag, but you can't deny they have an advantage over us in some key areas.

The two players I am concerned about as much as any are Mitchell and Sewell. They might fly under the radar when people are thinking about Franklin or Rioli or Hodge, but Mitchell and Sewell are the engine room. Mitchell could negate Sandilands dominance and win first possession more often than not, and Sewell will try (and quite possibly succeed) to take Mundy out of the game while racking up big inside numbers himself. Sewell is made for finals football.

I think if Sandilands or McPhee should happen to injure Mitchell with a big dumping tackle in close (of which their should be many chances) ... that is the sort of luck we need to curb what looks on paper to be a significant midfield advantage.

Also concerned about Clinton Young, that guy is made for Subi and ripped us up a few years ago, could fly under the radar as well.

Other interesting issue is that Hodge is still carrying that injury. Hodge & Guerra flew over to Perth a day before the squad. So must be to get extra time post flights for physio etc to recover as best they can for the game.

They are going to learn the hard way about playing injured players and travel. If they do manage to win the game they are going to have a few injuries which will really stuff them for next week.

Sooooo happy about Freo's decision to rest players from the Taz game.

Game tomorrow is going to be fantastic.

Freeeeeoooooooo Freeeeeeoooooooo

Because we have been pretty competitive against the Cats on numerous occasions in the past couple of years including a win in the only game between the two sides this year. We haven't won a game against the Saints since 2007 who's defensive game mode is perfectly suited to Etihad stadium.
