325 odd off 50 odd overs should do the trick for an at least decent finish. NZ won't be getting that

It's a bit of a road, but yeah fatigue and pressure do funny things to people.

The conspiracy theorist would suggest Smith gets a polite tap on the shoulder from Ch9 producers in the lunch break to "encourage" aka force him to declare relatively soon....

What conspiracy? he puts on the earpiece every single time the dec is in the air so he can get their approval.

So odd hearing the likes of taylor try and influence the skipper, taylor would have been disgusted by the idea of letting the comms have any impact on his on field moves as skipper.

Force them to bowl us out for once! Why should we gift them a chase?

I get the feeling that long term he might be the anti haddin the sort of bloke who can dig in when the top 6 have been rolled rather than just try and slog his way out of the mess.
This innings has been very very flukey, I don't know how he hasn't edged atleast one of the deliveries that he has hung the bat out at. And that's against a NZ attack bowling 135km on a road.

I can see him capitulating if the top 6 fall quickly

I agree with this. The idea of winning a test match is to take 20 wickets. NZ have not shown that they can do that, so why make it easy on them.

Having said that, I think Australia have enough on the board.

Don't care how ugly he looks I care that he values his wicket.

Do other test nations have declarations slightly dictated to by the television broadcasters?

Should bat out the day. Send the message to Channel 9 that if they want a result they should allow for a results wicket

This would love it too and exactly what we should do

What's with all this talk about channel 9 having an influence on the declaration? Did I miss something? Is there some proof that this might be the case or has everyone just got their conspiracy theory tin foil hat on?
Mostly tin foil. But there does seem to be a run of Smith always wearing his ear piece and listening to the commentary just before declaring.

absolutely.

If Clarke was captain we would have already been going the tonk and probably by 7/360 odd by now. The commentators would have been spooging themselves about how an aggressive captain he is etc.

Tubby Taylor never gave the opposition any charity declarations.
