I couldn't belkieve it when I saw both these blokes on the bench at the start of the game. If neither of them was there to do a specific job, why were they both chosen? Neither are overly creative, and neither have good disposal. A stange selction choice at best!!!
Just on disposal, Simmo and Brady cost us at least a goal apiece with *****e kicks that resulted in turnovers. Not good enough!!!!!!!

You can add grant to that list his bad disposal caused the injury to sav. Also what was wrong with Pickett no spark at all today, i also now agree about cochrane and rawlings both realy struggled today

Rawlings actually shut out Johnstone in the second half, he was good. His bad kicking was part of the team strategy. Only Makepeace seemed to get the odd kick in the right direction, otherwise, the whole team were horrible.

Yep moti that is the frustrating thing. How many times did they get the ball and hit a loose target. How many times did we bomb it in long to our forward line to a pack situation or them on their own. Same old story.
We have a team capable of getting enough of it, but most of our blokes can't seem to use the thing properly. Very frustrating today!!!

to be fair, it was bloody windy out there today.
There was terrible disposal from both teams, and it was evident that the wind had a big impact on this.

this was pathetic today it was like having a mini twister in that place at times today, many easily missed shots from both teams was caused by this,

i think this is where vardy came into it by running the ball right into the melbourne goal where as we just kept bombing it long and letting the wind take it

Get rid of them.

Both **** kickers
I'm frustrated at the moment but I tend to agree. If you are an onballer and you don't know how to kick then what is the good of you.
Rawlings often shows that he has a bit of talent and can pick up possesions but Cohcrane is hopeless.

cochrane did a few nice things in the last quarter.... almost sparking that mini revival. nice goal too!

but i agree, there is really no need to have two types of players of the same ilk.... taggers.... unless there are two specific people to tag.

personally, i have been pretty disappointed with rawlings efforts over the past month or so. has he even once hit a lead? seems to get knocked off the ball far too easily as well. jury is still out.

That's why i wanted Shannon Motlop in the side instead of one of those 2. He could have been an option to go on Vardy, who towelled up Teague and kicked 5 goals. Teague will learn though, and be a better player.

Let's get rid of all these players...!!!

Who do you get to replace them...?? Other teams will give up some real quality for them wont they...??

While they didn't have the best of games, there were many senior players well under par which should come under the spotlight before these lame ducks...

Cochrane, has been OK this season...
Rawlings is still young and shows promise...

We need some players each week, and I suggest there weren't too many players better them these 2 players, playing without an AFL contract somewhere...

Well Stewart we have to get rid of a few players at the end of the year and some think these are two candidates. While I've been disappointed with his kicking I reckon Rawllings is worth persisting with.
Just for interest's sake who do you reckon should be culled?

Abrahams (unrecoverable injury?)
Cochrane (D.Smith could get more air time and do his job)
Clayton (selfish, soft bastard who gets all the easy stuff, for 100 games he's very very ****)
Carey (duh)
Bourke (duh)
Watt (totally sold, he's a waste of space)
McLaren (has the worst foot skills in the entire competition)
Blakey (retired)
Martyn (should retire)
Tregenza (can't make it in the AFL)
Lange (likewise)

Both players are tradeable i would think. Rawlings does have a bit of potential, but he'll never show anything at North.

How bout:

Rawlings to Hawthorn for Sam Mitchill
Cochrane to Port for M.Stevens or Matthew Bishop.

Have to disagree with Tregenza Neobalze. Came back from a knee reco last year to kick plenty of bags in the Muzza's.

At 192cm and 95 kg I think he could fit in nicely into our foward line as an optional FF with Sav. God knows we could do with an alternative if the FB it trying to run Sav all over the ground.

Give the kid a senior berth, let him have a few cracks next year in the 1's when he has a earned a call up. He certainly would have been given a go this year if he was not a rookie.

You can't say he is not cut out for AFL when he's never had a chance.

I believe most players are tradeable depending on what is on offer. There are some players that are untouchable, but not too many of them...Stevo & Archer spring to mind...there's probably a few more...

The original point I was trying to make, was that because some people don't see what some players are contributing (Cochrane) or don't like some players for whatever reason (Cochrane, Clayton), trading them off doesn't just fix the problem...

If these players are really no good, why would another club give you something worth while for them???

I actually believe the best 600 - 650 players are currently player AFL in this country, so where are the instant improvements coming from? There would be the odd exception, but probably easier putting on a tatts ticket, than finding it...

Both Cochrane & Clayton can play at senior level, with Clayton being our best forward at this start of this season and Cochrane doing well as a tagger...They had good and bad games like most players...

These players are not the next Glen Archer or Wayne Carey with courage or skill, but they have a role...

People keep saying, "give the kids a go", as though they know better than those in experienced positions who are watching them daily and actually know them well. Its like some people actually think, Denis Pagan does want to play his best side because he has some hangups... Come on...!!! HE gets it 95% right otherwise he wouldn't have is record...

Players that I would like to see delisted, I will leave that to the people who really know, other to finish with how I started, nearly all players are tradeable...

Stewart

Fair enough Stewart but I don't see the problem with supporters speculating on whether some players should be delisted or traded. I don't agree with half of what has been said but surely it's fair enough for people to air their thoughts on the matter.
And look even though coaching staffs are in the best position to know the merits of their players, they CAN get it wrong. That is how some players find success at a second home. Me and my mates always said Mark Stevens could be a chance at CHB but he was rarely played there at North. He ultimately found success when he was played there in Adelaide. We also said Byron Pickett was hopeless in his first year.
I know I've singled out a couple of your comments in the past but I find it annoying when people have a go at the pleb supporters for daring to question the coaching staff when they make decisions. Ultimately we have no power over selections so this is one small way to have our say on decisions that matter to us, and on players whom we have an emotional or financial stake in. Otherwise I don't see the point of having these forums.

Windsock,

I do not have a problem with supporters airing their views, bagging players, selections or the coach, but some people sound like broken records and have absolutely no idea about football...

In this thread, I was simply trying to suggest that if Cochrane & Clayton are so useless, why would other clubs trade quality for them??? I also added that both players have contributed well this season...

Some people either do not understand that some players play different roles or these people do not go to games and therefore do not see the likes of Cochranes efforts...

I do not wish to silence anybody, I just wish to air my view of their thoughts, that is what makes forum like these very good...

l know Brady has got his knockers, but l reckon he might be the big improver for 2003. The kid can run, can take a good grab, and has courage. l admit his kicking skills can let him down at times. At training he definately is looking more confident, is demanding the ball a lot. His often paired with Ben Robbins, and definately holds his own. He even appears to have put on a little body size.
We have to remember that he came to the club as a very young 17 year old. He only turns 22 this year, so is very much still a development player.
Remembering that there are not a lot of players that can dominate full games of footy at the age of 22. They might show glimpses of their future potential, but are normally unable to maintain it throughtout a whole season. We often expect to much from these kids. lt takes a player till the age of 24 before they have fully matured physically and mentally. ( Example Simmo, Harvey, Archer, Kingy, Bell). Brady has now played 50 plus (patchy) games, so is ahead of most of our youngsters.
l expect a big improvement from him this season. There is no denying he has athletic talent.

To be honest I'm not one of Brady's biggest fans. While I don't subscribe to the "he's too skinny" mentality, that seems to always get a mention. I don't think you need to be big to be a good footy player.

His problem, in my opinion, is his poor disposal and poor decision making. He seems to be alright at getting a touch (a good mark yes, but he's no ball-magnet).

It's just that when he does get it, he often bombs it long to no advantage. He doesn't seem to sum up options quickly and make the right disposal choice, I don't know if this is something that you can teach a player, but he's been around the caper long enough now.

On the other hand, it always seemed to me that he was following Pagan's kick-it-long-and-kick-it-quickly style to a tee. Perhaps a different game style might turn him into a capable player... we'll just have to wait & see. It'd be nice to see him kicking to a leading player, very nice.
My 2 cents is spent
