we need more than 3 to step up. players like martin cotchin are already at a high level and there wont be massive upside to either. ellis had a great season and again while expecting improvement how far away is his ceiling. these types are already significant contributors. its not improvement from these types that is of the greatest importance but haveing lesser players either establish themselves or take their games up a notch.
i tend to break it down into positional areas. i too apologise for the length of post if you dont wish to read on just scroll past. so here goes
defenders.
kamdyn mcintosh - a 192cm 89kg good skilled, accountable, and hard running tall defender. he would be ideal to take on and combat hard to match up forwards like chris mayne.and provide plenty of rebound. would look to develop him in the birchall mould but with a better defensive set to his game.
dave astbury - have real doubts about this bloke but at 195cm 97kg we need him to step up and become an accountable kpd. if this can happen it would free alex rance up to play the third tall role without the need to play one v one most of the time where hes shown himself to be a little vulnerable.
mids
conca - is a no brainer. while hes been servicable he now needs to take it up a notch or two and become a real damaging player.
helbig - we desperately need midfield depth. imo this bloke would make a great run with player. has enough good attributes to make it imo. but hes on a knife edge and needs to show he belongs on a list entering yr 4.
knights - simply put he needs to stay healthy. like a new recruit because of injury. a real solid citizen when going and will give some genuine midfield depth if he stays fit.
other mids who need to take a step and give us some real depth are arnot have issues with his skillset, miles a 22 yr old we got from gws and im impressed.
forwards
vickery - im one of very few tiger supporters who are highly critical of this bloke. there are several areas in his game that just has to improve. , which i wont go into for fear of starting up another shit fight.
one of elton, mcbean, griffiths, - we desperately need at least one of these players to put pressure on the likes of vickery and to at the least be able to provide cover if we lose jack or vickery to injury. griffiths in particular is in the gun.
lloyd - a 24 yo sml forward. we are screaming out for a decent goalkicking sml. at age 24 im certainly hoping he can offer some decent footy this yr.
mcdonough - sml forward who should be able to be a part of rotations. good wraps on this kid and as a sml needs to take a step.
gordon - another mature 24 yo a medium sized player capable of playing in the midfield. was originally at sydney but got cut a yr ago. had a top season in the sanfl last yr is a lovely size and like lloyd at age 24 im hoping he can offer some decent footy this yr and some genuine depth.
lennon - our first rounder. has great skills and polish reckon he will play as many games as we can reasonably put into him.he could well start his career at hb.
rucks
hampson - its a no brainer we need him to drastically improve on what hes dished up at carlton in 7yrs. will spend plenty f time in both the ruck and forward roles. almost imperative he can step up.

If Clarke can get going, take a few more pack marks and kick 20-30 goals it would be brilliant for him and Freo. Such a pity he has been out with a PCL over preseason.
