Autopsy 3 Things you Learnt vs North

It shits me to tears because my own view is that Lindsay Thomas is the victim of racism in the same way Goodes was, just expressed differently. Between 2007 and now, Joel Selwood has been paid 299 too high frees and LT has got 73. But LT cops it mercilessly. And just as dipshits like BT and Dermie "condemned" the "violence" of Goodes dance - one of the most brilliant things I've ever seen btw - so they pot LT for being a "stager".

It is institutionalised unconscious racism, racism so deep people don't even know they are being racist.

If people knew where Lindsay Thomas had come from, and what it has taken for him to be even out on a footy field, they would look very differently at the society they live in.

It's a valid point that Thomas cops more than Selwood for milking free kicks. Christensen for the Lions received the most free kicks last year and is out in front again this year and he doesn't cop what Thomas does. Not sure it's a race thing in this instance.

I dont single out one club. I have been very critical of Hawthorn (who started the 2016 saga), the WA teams, Collingwood, Adelaide, etc and I'm not going to let them off the hook just because Adam is retired.

If North want my respect they have to show a bit of class and the combination of sniping onfield and racism off field ain't gonna do it.

I can let most things pass but I struggle with indigenous racism. It is poor on so many levels when you look at the history of this country.
OK, we'll agree to disagree. We're on the same page as regards racism, we just differ on how to respond to it when it rears its ugly head in sport. Cheers mate.

11 goal kickers for the night. Big plus.
Back to the good old days. In the Paul Roos era, before I followed footy on the Internet, the first thing I'd do when I opened the Monday paper's footy report was count how many individual goal kickers we had. If it was over 10, I was convinced we were on the right track.

So 11 is great in my books. Keep the opposition's defence in a near-permanent state of panic. Dutch boys plugging leaks in dykes, or something like that.

Having said that, I still felt we were way too Buddy-centric last night.

I'm not necessarily dismissing your argument, but the big difference between Selwood and LT is that, despite all his ducking, Selwood is also one of the most courageous players in the league and routinely puts his body on the line... legally. Because of this, it's easier to forgive the way he plays for free kicks.
I was literally about to post the same sentiments. Selwood is the opposite end of the spectrum to Thomas when it comes to hardness and attacking the contest.

I won't argue that Selwood doesn't get looked after though, whether it's due to reputation or technique. Our mids get clocked above the shoulders in a regular basis and only occasionally get a free.

With all respect SBD, no one is posting that we are flag favourites, or that we think the flag is ours to claim. Every one of us is more than aware of 2014, I don't think that we need to be reminded how hard it is to win a premiership. People are also allowed to post how they want, whether or not you want to read and partake in it is entirely your decision. Many posters here hate #lolnorf for various reasons, it's been a Bigfooty rivalry which probably peaked a few years ago, and of course a rivalry off the field which I'm sure you know about. Many posters now harbour a strong dislike for the posters of that board, and it is with them that we take issue with, and it is at them our posts are (indirectly) directed towards. With the exception of Hawthorn, it's hardly as though this is the normal reaction after every win. I think people should be allowed to enjoy it however they wish, this is the Sydney board after all. I know I relish a North win - and of course it goes without saying they have some decent posters too who are not included in this.
Hi Vonn, my precise words were "you'd be forgiven for thinking we all think the flag is ours to claim" and looking back over this thread there is a distinct triumphalist tone to it, so with respect, I do think what I said is true. Last night was hardly an emphatic display of unstoppable football power à la Brisbane or Geelong in their recent primes. We have a lot to fix yet before we can allow ourselves any sort of arrogance.

As to what you say about people's right to say what they've said, no disagreement whatsoever there. I never suggested they had no right to say it, and apologise if that was how anyone read it.

But your point equally applies to me. If people have the right to post comments and pursue themes I think unbecoming of us as a club, I have every right to post my disapproval of it here too.

I just think we're better than that. Rise above it, as my mum would always say.

As I've posted here many, many times, one of the big reasons why I love the Swans is because I think we're such a damn decent, ethical, honest club. On the field, and off the field. Cheers.

Just rewatching. I noticed Sinclair was the teammate who ran in from 10m away and pulled that dog Firrito off McGlynn when he was repeatedly elbowing him in the face while he was pinned and helpless.

He flys the flag. I really don't get why people ride him. Oh well. I'm sure McGlynn appreciated that non stat 1%er.

I don't think for a second this board in general thinks we aren't without improvement going by last night's posts while at the same time taking great enjoyment out of the win as well as if we did play the game of the century.

We can do both.

As a mod group we won't instruct people how to behave until it brakes any of the site or board rules.

Norf games have ALWAYS had an edge to them for historical reasons (club from from South Melbourne to their dirty attempt to enter the Sydney market) to on and off field events that have seen posters on here take personal exception with Norf.

We could rise above it, but at this point it would be like me asking to everyone to be kind to Eddie

I feel like you missed the opportunity to throw in a few hashtags. Disappointing.

I'm not asking the mods to do anything.

I was only expressing my opinion here (which is my right) of other opinions I've seen expressed here (which is their right).

Carry on.

I'm with ya SBD, respect is a 2 way street. You give it to get it.

As such, let's look at how much respect we've had the last handful of years... Tip, Bud, Goodes, COLA, Trade Ban etc etc... So when we stick it back up them I'm sure a few of us would do so with vigour & the same level of "respect" they have shown us the last 3-5 years.

The thing I find is that there are those bad eggs at #lolnorf (players & supporters) which drag the reputation & image of their club down. I don't want that at my club but there is always a few...

Firritto would be the first of these. The way he "manned up" on Goodesy in his last game was f'n pathetic. So many cheap shots & dirty sniping tactics. IMO he really exemplifies that which many of us then relate back to it's posters here... Dirty, wanna be tough plodders. No class. No tact. No honour. No integriry. No respect.

Saying all of this though I guess you Do Unto Others. That goes for every1 even us IMO. So I want to show a bit of class while being happy we beat them but I'm also reacting in a response to the way many who represent their club carry themselves too.

I think Sinkers had his best game in red and white last night. Early on he actually clanked a couple of marks. He looked desperate to prove that he could stick them. And continued to compete all night
True that. I think some of the bagging he's been getting has been unjustified. He competes well and seems very fit. I think his handling skills will only get better. Rampe to me is a good example of that. He was a bit suspect at times early in his career, he turned the ball over a fair bit, etc. But nowadays, boy oh boy wowee.

Dal is a peasant of a player
Nick Dal Santo is soft as...

I thought we played quite well, and the scoreboard flattered Norf. It was always going to be scrappy, Norf knew they had to clog it up in order to make a game of it.

Flattered them

Just we dominated mids, defenders killed their forwards

But we wasted it a bit, could of had more shots on goal

We were good but can and have played a lot better.

If i were a north fan id think geez we are about 10 goals off sydney right now

They're playing a dreary style of football, I guess that's because of all the old blokes in their side.

I really can't remember any of their goals, outside of Lindsay's flops and dives

My honest assessment of north is they have one a grader and that is Goldstein

They have a lot of solid players though like wells (never been fully fit to be what he could be) ziebell, swallow, thompson, waite who are b

Then some flat track bullies like petrie who has played for year despite being mostly ratshit

Few old farts like dal santo

Some no names who try hard like macmillia, dumont and others who are just no names

Then overrated chip seagulls harvey and thomas

Its a solid unspectacular list, competitive and all but yeah such a nothing side

How that fat plodder Firrito is still getting picked is beyond me.

I dont hate north

I just think they are an average club who is a false first, false by so much it is not funny and I expect sydney to best them 90% of the time.

I think you make some good points

If you cant trumpet about and enjoy a win what is the point, especially on the club board

I am not going to parade over to their board and be a dick, but why not have a laugh here before resetting for the next game

After having a good think about it after the game, I strongly believe that Thomas is doing nothing wrong if the umps are continuously awarding him the free kick. Forget what it looks like. Put a decent tackle on these players & it won't happen.

The coaches are right. At years end, adjust the rules & they will stop doing it.
Simple solution!

In the meantime, learn to tackle hard around the waist!
