Unless Hale can remain in the goalsquare and get free kicks he's useless. He's only keeping the position warm for Petrie. He kicked 3 goals today 2 from frees and everytime the ball hit the ground he was beaten. He's not a damaging forward and l think we wont be able to play 4 talls so unless he can participate more in contests then he might be the 1 to get dropped.

What crap.

Any idea why he gets frees in one one ones? Lucky?

He is 7th in the coleman, and contributed to at least four other goals today, including the two the put us in front and sealed the game.

Some of you jokers want to stop criticising and start supporting, Hale was huge today, he gets frees because he deserves them , should've got 7 goals, the umps were a disgrace.

He gets the frees because he struggles to win a contest outright. Yeh he gets goals from frees but if he has to lead up ground he stuffs it more time than he gets it. His quick actions at getting the ball moving are none existant because he doesn't know what to do with it. When he can kick 4 goals from winning the ball i.e. Marks and general play and NOT from free kicks l'll say l'm wrong but not until then.
But at the end of the day its a good win :thumbsu:

You are blind.

All his frees were there because Gilham didn't know what to do when he was one on one with Hale. It is the same with most defenders trying to deal with a forward of his size.

Gilham also would have got nervous from the fact Hale took two very strong marks at the start and had two shots at goal from 50.

And in terms of his quick actions getting the ball moving, what did you think of his decision making coming up the field when he picked out Adams when the game was in the balance?

Seriously, concentrate.

Perhaps he gets the free kicks because he's a position where the defender doesn't know what to do.

I don't know, but it seems to be happening every week now.

He's kicking, like, 3 goals a game isn't he? Isn't that good, especially when we don't score a massive amount?

Don't supporters of other clubs scream and wail that [insert key forward] never gets any free kicks, despite being scragged and mauled all day?

Hale gets a few frees doesn't he?

Pretty decent kick too I'd have thought.

I didn't see Buddy take too many brilliant marks or split the game right open today.

I did see him get free kicks also, due to being in the right position.

Food for thought.

I think about food often. Time for a burger. Great win. Good on you David 'shagpile' Hale.

Yep hes good when he plays deep and we can get the ball in there long and fast. His reach is such the defenders are hard pressed not to give away a free for chopping the arms or pushing etc.

The problem comes when we are not winning enough of the pill in middle and the ball starts to come in slowly and haphazardly. Often there will be a situation where a 3rd man can spoil and once the ball is on the ground with opposition numbers, then Hale looks out of place.

Hes our only clear winner in the forward line right now, the rest have been a mixed bag, maybe Wellsy in the last couple of games has been good too. I cant see why anyone would want to drop him when hes contributing most games, even when we arent playing well.

Is there another key forward in the league more despised by his own supporters?

He could kick 10 goals a game & people would crap on about how they came from frees, he offered little defensive pressure, he looks as laconic as Lachie Hansen, he has a crappy haircut (the only fair call IMO)....

Right now he is averaging 2-and-a-bit goals a game, drawing the best (& often the extra) defender, offering a leading target, and is basically our only functional forward right now. Yes, I get frustrated with certain aspects of his game at times, but he is doing his job MORE than adequately & will only benefit from Dish returning.

kool kangas - Hale named in our bests today. Clearly a few people from the club are happy with his performance thus far. Will you still be sticking the boot in when he kicks his 50th for the year?

Hales did well tonight, as he has for most of this year. Yeah, he goes to ground a little too often but he was competing with so many Hawks hanging off him at times I thought we'd drafted in a new FF named Hills Hoist!

Bloody Hell Hale played well today, i watched him most of the night and he's really turned his game around from last year (where most of my criticism of him comes from). He didnt dive, he took strong marks and kicked well. Leading was a little bit of an issue, but it didnt seem like he needed to tonight, he had mitts on.

Changing the thread title in respect for that game, it was near perfect for him.

Not completely convinced, but Hale youve gone a long way to redeeming yourself in my eyes.

2 incidents from the game sum at Hale as a footballer.

1. He was outmarked by Guerra in the 3rd Q.

2. He obliterated Brown in the last to create a crumb that led to the goal. That is EXACTLY when we need from you. Not this finesse shit. Hurt c*nts.

Hale was more good than bad tonight. And we win.

On a tangent: Guerra is just scared, isn't he.

Honestly, for all the criticism he's copped over the past 12 months (and probably warranted), could a key forward get a worse run with umpires?

It's been a bit of a theme for a while and came to a head against Hawthorn. In a game where the umpires seemed pretty keen to pay anything and everything, I don't think it's an exaggeration to say he could have received seven or eight free kicks. Had at least one arm grabbed in every single marking contest, and only got the really obvious ones.

It's been disgraceful how little reward he receives from those red/yellow/green, or whatever, flogs. He looked like a set of Monkey Bars today, he had that many people hanging off him.
