Not really.

Wood has the capability to be a wing/half forward as well as third tall forward, and can play those roles, imo, better than Black. Wood needs to make himself a well rounded footballer (defensive running, consistent effort in the contest, team oriented) before he can play through the wing/half forward consistently at AFL level. If he does that he could be a real weapon for us because he clearly has some excellent offensive tools. Black is somewhat more limited I think, but at his best is a very good hit up forward.

Wood needs to also show more courage in the contest. Was found wanting on the occasions he had to go this year and was the main reason for being dropped.

i'll advise you to change it now.

Oh-oh. Didnt scoopy get his name and reputation from pre-empting the last Black contract? Thanks, Aaron, and good luck.

Love Blacky but this is pissweak. North gave him everything he asked for and he's not prepared to work for the club. Probably a blessing in disguise because he's on track to get delisted, hopefully we get at least a second rounder.

amazing how much has changed in 2 years... we were all worried Black would head back home at the time and the announcement of his signing was a massive story, forward to now and he has struggled to play good footy in the vfl and wants to be traded.

Right when we're about to fully align ourselves with Werribee which should ensure a very strong VFL side in which a forward like Aaron would have a far better chance of forcing his way back into the 1's if he was committed and confident enough to do so. Piss weak!

Black and Bastinac, two of our - at the time - most important signings for the club's future. You just never know.

I remember comparing Black to Gunston only couple of years ago, as they were drafted in the same draft, with very similar picks, and play a very similar role. At the time, I felt Black had more upside, having missed so much footy through injury, but could be at least as good as Gunston if not better. Right now though, he is miles off it. I am resigned to see him go. The only disappointing thing is that we'd be selling him at his lowest price point, and would be lucky to get a top 30-35 pick in a crap draft.

There is another option. Don't trade him. He has a contract. Once the Trading Period is done and dusted and if he was to remain on our list he would have one of two options. A) Sulk B) Work his arse off to salvage his career. :stern look

Worst thing the club can do is keep a player who doesn't want to be here. And pay him good coin.

Is it? Remember Craig O'Brien? Even dare I say it, Wayne Campbell? The worst thing would be for us to move Black on without adequate compensation. :stern look

You are correct if the compo is extremely inadequate, ie pick 50.
But if we want pick 30, but are offered pick 37 (for example), as long as his contract is completely picked up from us, I'd do it.

Yeah I'd be more tempted to get a player in on the flipside. Premiership Window and that. A Dal Santo Type for example. What's a second round pick at 37 gonna really give us? But yeah Black's contract would have to be picked up in full for there to be any deal struck. :stern look

So would I, but which club will give you a half decent player for Black at the moment?

True in 2013 you could make that comparison, was always generous to Black but their stats were similar whilst Gunston played for a premiership side. FF two years and it looks like Gunston will be remembered as a Hawks legend if not an AFL great for his role in the threepeat multiple GF bags of goals, averaging almost three a final over 11 games and Black wasn't even the best forward for a mediocre VFL side.
