Just thought I would start the thread, but with a difference.

Although he, Colbert and Baird are only average defenders, they did try and their job was made difficult by slack manning up and great delivery. Tried manfully but we were just outclassed.

If Watt played against our forwards, he would be considered a star! Complete opposite today, poor delivery and under pressure for our forwards.

Lets just hope he gets his chin up for next week's game against *gulp* Gehrig.

You think Colbert is only an average defender???

Don't think we can bag Watt too much this week. He played how he always plays.

North didn't want to run today. Not much teamwork at all.
It happens.

I wouldn't want to be criticising any of our defenders too much today. Few mistakes, but when the ball is coming in that often and that well, you're not gonna be able to stop too many teams with Hall and Goodes running around there.

In fairness to Watt, Hall didn't get a lot of the footy in the corridor, Watt did get him out wide and out to the 50 more often than not.

Watt is pretty damn slow off the mark though.
He isn't slow it's just he doesn't know what he's doing. Stands still too often. But who cares no one could have stopped Hall today and Sydney dominated all over the ground so I'll leave Watt alone.

How bad was Harvey though????

I thought harvey was ok.

Maybe I was affected by depression.
He does some good things then he goes hidding for 15 minutes.
The whole midfield were a bit off today but have been good in the previous weeks.
I just thought Sydney's run through the middle killed us today.
No pressure applied and we couldn't hurt them the other way and that is what Harvey should be doing.

Can i please criticise one defender?

John Baird.

He is too slow, whether its in a pack sitiation,or chasing a player or in a one on one contest.

I think he has had enough chances,im starting to think maybe we should have not traded Teague.

What does Baird have that Teague didnt?

Don't really have any options do we. I guess it brings up the question of whether we try a Chad Jones or Shore at CHB at Port to see whether they may be OK. Bizzell and Cornes made the move well.

watt is damn slow off the mark but it has more to do with his judgement of where the ball is going rather than actual acceleration (although his acceleration is also pretty poor). he needs more games and more experience to know where opponents are going to lead and double back etc. but he got pushed off the ball pretty easily as well. He just doesn't use his body well enough does our watt. but hopefully it will come

He'll struggle against anyone when our midfield gets beaten that badly. There aren't many defenders, maybe Scarlett and Michael, who can stop guys like Hall and Gehrig, but it's a lot easier to do a good job when the ball isn't coming in every 30 seconds.

I thought Hall pushed Watt out with two hands in the middle of the back for a couple of those grabs. Watt was in good position both those times, that I noticed the ‘in the backs’. When Hall did it further up the field the umps saw it and awarded Watt the free.

Our defense was not really able to hold them up which was disappointing. But our midfield put ZERO pressure on so they could just do as they liked.

Both Goodes and Hall had a great game and we were never going to stop them without the midfield putting the pressure on.

Watt still did his main job, prevented alot of easy marks within the corridor and within 30m.

Hall went far and wide and you just do not get a bag kicked on you from that wide. He ran amok on Colbert aswell who is no mug. Baird did okay on him towards the end but by then he was suffering leather poisoning he had the ball that much.

I didn't see a whole lot of Brown, was comprehensively beaten wherever he was because he was nowhere near Goodes. He should of been moved up forward.

JYD is still learning the coaching caper, he was out-coached. We were killing Sydney early and Roos applied the flood. JYD had no answers, left too many matchups that did not favour us. It was just a forgettable game across the board.

Without a ROAD BLOCK ahead of Gehrig, expect Watt to cop another jolly rogering like he did today and last season.

Can't blame Watt if his team mates are not playing tough, uncompromising, team kinda footy. Today was a sick result and a big ALARM BELL WARNING to the rest of the team.

The best way to stop the likes of Barry Hall, Fraser Gerig etc.. is to stop the ball getting to them. Our midfield played unaccountable footy today, and will need to tighten up if we are to shake the Saints next week.

We play like we did agianst the Swans today, next week.
St.Kilda with Kill us. especially with Hammil back

I agree with Dermie's comments on Ten today that the ball gets run too easily out of our forward line, the opposition links up through the centre and our backs haven't got a hope in hell.

Nearly every counter attack resulted in a score,

There were signs of this in our last three games however today against quality opposition we were exposed.

I'm not sure exactly what the problem is yet but I'm thinking

That Laids's game plan requires a lot of running off your oponent so consequently when there's a turn over the opposition links up without any pressure whatsoever.

Another point is perhaps that with the amount of running our boys are required to do we just get far too tired in the legs. Some off our guys look like they haven't recovered from the first two games yet.

And it could be that some or our great leaders of the past are perhaps feeling the affects of long careers at the top for a good ten years or so a bit earlier than they antisipated. This might mean that Kingy and Co may finish out at Port in a similar fashion to Craig Sholl.

I really hope that if our old champs do get dropped that they don't retire mid year and that they go on and play at Port, they would be great for the kids comming through.
