I remember Watt playing well early last year before serios injuries took it's toll. All I'm saying he needs the opportunity to get his confidence up and to allow him to learn the 'trade' without continually being dumped after a mistake. I liken him to Hawthorn's Jade Rawlings who took a number of years to develop but is now a permanent and valuable member of their lineup and who a few of the members of this forum would like to get over to Arden Street.

As for Crowe and Foott, judging by their performance in the Muzzas, they are not quite ready yet an probably a year away from their chance.

I went to the M.K's game at Point Gellibrand. Earlier this evening a relative rang me. He had watched the kangas game on .V. He asked me about how some players went in M.K's and more specifically "How did Watt play " ? I replied that he played in seniors. My relo went "Oh, sorry mate i never noticed".

Because like the rest of this board, he has rose coloured glasses concerning Mick. Mick was beaten all day today and was behind, not five metres, but ten on many occassions. The only reason Wilson didn't kick more was that the midfield did it themselves.

Watt was on the bench for half the game, partcuarly in the last half, and I hope that our next coach has some balls and goes with him, because Denis hasn't much hope.

everything that you have said there is true...

well done mate!:)

watt played for less than half the game.
when his direct opponent went off the ground so did shannon.
his opponent didn't kick any goals on him => wasn't beaten by his opponent.... a passable game for a defender. from where i sat he did not shirk any contests. went to the help of micky and colbert on a couple of occasions. as for being soft you could only have not watched the game.

Denis hasn't much hope? Is this the same Denis Pagan who has played a part in getting us to the finals including 2 wins against Port Adelaide, a win against Adelaide (you know, 2 of the top 4 sides), and a win against the Hawks that got us into the finals with a few of our senior players out injured?

Let's not forget:
  1. WCE kicked fanstatically;
  2. spider/porter/midfielders got killed by gardiner/cousins/kerr/matera;
  3. WCE forward line was very open when wilson was on the lead;
  4. we did not have rocca/pickett/archer.
    [/list=1]

    Despite all of the above lost by only 3 goals in a shootout and should we beat Melbourne get a chance to kick the Pies out of the finals.

Denis will coach us next year you fiend, and you obviously have a sexual infatuation with Shannon 'scheissenhaus' Watt.

Why are you guys so so so negative??? The whole team played below their capacity, so how are a few new faces going to stand up and take the place of those missing???

I agree that some of the playdecisions that our makepeace and martyn made were far from satisfactory...but they performed under pressure knowing the weight was on their shoulders....we need better personel full stop! New recruitment of a backman of quality, a midfielder and a forward....

I've been told that Mcartney is being played in the reserves for discipline reasons...what that is supposed to mean I dont know. As for junior, he has bursts of performance interests..and that annoys the selection team. Watt on the other hand, when on the ground tried his heart out..he was involved in a couple of positive ball movements. If he was given more ground time, and a key psi in the backline, you might quite see a guy with confidence emerge.

Archer replaced by Watt. Talk about going from "chocolates to boiled lollies"!!!!!!!!!!

I don't like bagging players, but in my opinion, this year Watt when he has been in the team has simply shown nothing in his game time. Yesterday we were crying out for the experience of Jason McCartney as a key defender.

If Jason is so much out of favour, why not Adam Lange for a change? He could have gone down forward and maybe let Drew Petrie go down back in the last quarter. I seem to remember Petrie taking some telling marks against Freo at Manuka.

Why also didn't we try Porter up forward for a short while as a marking option?

Bull****, Watt is one of the softest blokes I have seen with a blue and white jumper on for a long time. He has it all I reckon as they say built like Tarzan plays like Jane. A couple of positive ball movements?? Once when he handpassed it off. Thats all he did all day.

As for being given a key role. He played quite a efw games at Full Back when Mick was out last year and showed nothing

A rap for Wilson

I hate to say it - but I love to watch Wilson when he is on fire - talk about crashing the packs! (If only he was not playing against North!)

Let's face it with our depleted side we could just not match up against Cousins Kerr and Chris Judd.

I would have loved it if we could have finished fifth - the Doc was saying pre season that we would have a top four finish and everyone was laughing at him. We came bloody close and our finals campaign has not even begun.

A fair comment about Lange. From the games I've seen him play in the Muzzas and from the reports I've read, his form has been fair to good.
Okay, he might not have the height etc. but at least he'll add a bit of mongrol/nouse - something that Watt lacks.

The other point about Lange is that he's has been a proven contributor previously, didn't he kick circa 20 goals a couple of years a go ? What has Watt ever done ?

I agree completely. Great post.

I think Mick was the only one strong enough to match Wilson one out in the goal square, which was where the Eagles played him.

Watt may have been a chance covering him on a lead, but doesn't yet cut it in pure physical strength. For all Mick's aging, he's still a big brute...
wilson kicked all his goals when on the lead so watt could have at least been tried on him micky embarrassed himself and i hope he retires very soon because i don't want a great full back to be remembered for performances like that where he was just relying on thuggery to get him through. As for watt he's opponent did nothing when he was on so what did you want him to do? I wish all of you were on the match committee let's delist the only tall backman we've got that can run quicker than graeme mcmahon and sinkers how bad was jess going when he was getting dragged all the time and was down on confidence? ashley Mcintosh only had 4 possies was he terrible? Some of you should take the blinkers off and stop using a scapegoat who is 20 years old and has 20 odd games experience. If we delist him we would have to be insane.

Well I for one agree with you kangaanth. I didn't think he was all that bad and performed a purely negative role ok. Needs to be given more encouragement to increase his confidence rather than the opposite. I think he may be 22 now but should be retained unless involved in a very good trade because,as you say,we're not exactly flush with tall backmen who have a bit of pace. Micky?Well it's probably time but may as well keep him in the side, just don't play him on Neitz!
