He's got great attributes. Good mark for his size and a long kick, but missed easy shots. Goes out of the game for periods.

His career is potentially in good shape. If Yze just uses no pressure fwd, and less midfielders playing in the fwd line..

MRJ and Mansell.
Tarranto Cotch, Graham, Prestia and Hopper delivered us 13th.
Looked great on paper but in end the unwillingness to drop flag winners hurt us.

Lynch absence didn't help and Kosi IN is a good move.
I wait selections with interest.

Then he is a suburban footballer and wont succeed at AFL if he doesnt learn

Whats his pass mark for 2023
15+ games and 25+ Goals imo

Running out of time cumbo
In some respects he is or was a suburban footballer. He was not polished or particularly learned when it came to team play. Most kids coming in have to learn that unless they go through the 'system'. There is a reason why so many father son's get drafted, because they have been schooled since day 1. Much the same for the private school system.

But Cumberland has what a lot of footballers, especially suburban footballers don't, a bit of AFL quaity x-factor.
He is quick, has great lateral movement. He's aggressive at the ball and at the man, flies for his marks like a natural forward, good kick and he makes things happen. The only thing stopping Cumberland is team development learning, and like all players that comes the more you play. He should really be set up for a good year. Could be 15 games, would love to see him play a whole season.

And another thing, and this applies to most of our young players. I hope they get backed in just as senior players are when they are a bit out of form rather than get dropped all the time. Best example was when they dropped Ross at the middle end of the season. He was playing really well at the time, and upon reprieve had one of his best games. A player like Cumberland will have his up's and down's, that's what x-factor type forwards do. They don't need to be dropped every time they have a bad game (or even a good game in Cumbo's instance on occasion). Banks was dropped last season when in good form.

If anything, the things he lacks should mean greater scope for improvement if a coach takes the time to unlock his raw potential.

I have huge faith in Cumbo.

Oath...at worst he could get us a nice draft pick...at best help to bring home a Premiership!

Don’t disagree with a lot of what you’ve said but last season, he didn’t warrant being backed in.
Was absolutely awful in almost all of the games he played. I think he can play the game but he’d want to produce a hell of a lot more than he did in games played in 2023.

I don't think he was anywhere near awful, but certainly wasn't a good year. Don't think he knew whether he was Arthur or Martha half the time. Was suprised when one game he was dropped after having the same stats as Riewoldt, Ryan and Miller on his own. Hard for a young bloke to digest that as say to himself why me again.

Talk is cheap unless this guy shows something and like many others on our list. I'd love $10 from every player that says things are going to be brighter under a new coach. Most peak in their first few weeks then disappear back into mediocrity again. He has the talent and skill set, but he needs to apply more focus in remaining in the game longer as he appears to have a small concentration span . He's in the same boat with a lot of kids and SENIOR players on our 2024 list and at the crossroads. These players are all under the microscope. MRJ, Dow, Sonsie, HRS, Grimes, KMAC, JGTI, Pickett, Kosi, Naismith, Mansell, Ryan, Colina, Bauer, Campbell, Miller, Young, Green and Smith. Adding Cumberland and that makes 20 players which is a huge percentage and probably indicates where our team is at.

He wasn't alone in that regard, which suggests more than the player was responsible - Mini did a great job, but it was always a tough.

Perfect timing under a new coach as he was on a road to oblivion under dimma reign , here’s hoping ooze values what he can bring , he has rare talents in F50 that need to be nurtured not despised

We do a EFC and play rubbish maybe Yze goes hard on trading/delistings. Gets a list that suits his game plan.

The Cumberland adoration is sickening. This guy has done stuff all. He’s, as pointed out by RT ‘in the pack of yet to prove themselves’. He’ll be assessed on what he delivers in 2024 and I think is a 50/50 chance to be delisted.

The coach has to be ruthless this year and a no bulldust policy and no boys club adopted. If a player isn’t performing he gets dropped and not carried for months before they’re dropped. Need to see who can deliver at the highest level and who can‘t.
Cumberland wasn’t alone last year and any player that was dropped or underperforming regularly were on my list. Colina was added bc he was ordinary when he played vfl and if OHP shows more then Colina should go as we aren’t the Werribee Open Range Zoo.

Will cement his spot in the forward line this year and be a superstar middle of 2025

Just watch

He'll only get delisted if he stinks it up, which would be unlikely but you never know. He has too many good attributes. We hold onto so many limited players who nearly all eventually get delisted in the end, we can't afford to throw away the one's with real talent. He has shown plenty, just missing some pieces that were very high on Dimma's priorities.

I'd say the adoration is justified. At the end of the day at its basic level footy is fwds are there to kick goals. Comparing him with his fellow Tiger miss. In his first season playing seniors 19 goals in 9 games including a game winning 5 goals against arguably the best defence in the comp when you're the 4th option is a phenomenal result. His 2nd year he was treated terribly by the coaches and still managed 9 goals in 8 games. He kicks 3 goals in a 1/4 against the Dees without Lynch then gets double and triple teamed by Cotchins/ Graham's/Riolis opponents. And gets crucified by the coaches and plenty of sycophants around bigfooty like wtf did people expect him to kick 12 for the day?

Now while he was getting bagged for getting nullified it's worth noting none of his freed up medium/ small team mates bobbed up and did jacksh1t in the following 3/4 when they were unopposed. There was another game where our fwd line looked horrible. Cumberland came on as sub and all of a sudden we had a spark he was hitting up leading teammates creating goals. His form was hot and cold last year, he was heavily criticised and several times singled out by Hardwick.

Once reporters latched on that in press conferences he could've shut it down and given them nothing and addressed it with a kid lacking confidence behind closed doors. But no Hardwick lays the boots in. Let's look at some of his fellow medium/ small forwards 2023 output. Coulthard played a great 1/4 on debut and then zilch for remainder of season. Graham might as well have been a scarecrow as a veteran player delivered bugger all. Mansell I personally don't rate but he has a crack and maximizes his limited ability so I can't really fault him.

The hyenas here were deafening when Cornes rightfully said Cotchins no fwd (he never was and has shown he's actually gotten really bad and unreliable up fwd the further into his career) Can't be arsed looking up his stats but he couldn't buy a goal last year and was a complete liability and was a sad sight seeing his opponents speed off from him repelling the ball non stop.

In his 300th he kicks 3. One was a phenomenal outside 50 everyone was shocked he made the distance. Another was a Benny Hill everybody slipped over and he got a cheapie. He kicks 3 in an entire game where every teammate was sooo feeding him all night and it's the second coming of Leigh Matthews. Cumberland kicks 3 in 1/4 and everyone kicks the sh1t out of him.

I personally hate the mismatch of medium fwds as they can Bob up and kick bags so personally I hope the kid gets loved and supported by Yze. Would be great to see a pick 43 turn into 150+ game player who kicks his 30 goals a season helping keep the scoreboard ticking.

The adoration that has me baffled is MRJ kicks 2 goals in approx 20 odd games (seniors/ Magoo's/ preseason) averages 2-3 effective disposals a game. Is supposed to be lightning fast yet gets run down every single time, U14 disposal quality. He's only fast when he's already at full speed running at a bloke who's flat footed actually getting the pill so it looks sexy when he comes from nowhere on tv but reality is he's 10m away at full speed obviously gonna close down someone who is just taking off. His opponents regularly rack up 25+ possies setting up attacks at will.

I'd love someone to explain the adoration for MRJ? Apparently he played 2 above average Magoo's games in midfield so people are circle jerking over his future brownlows yet Will Martyn and Patty Naish do it week in week out and are unanimously labelled spuds.

Yes he was at times , GC comes to mind , 2 marks opening minutes both pretty well out on the full there abouts ,,, didn’t touch after that , awful in any estimation
