With the final to be played at the end of summer meaning a likely washout game. ffs.

I would rather have the world cup every 2-3 years but of a way shorter format. The current format is just revenue raising.

I wont bother with quarter finals. My sleep will be ruined for semis and final.

No quarters I think, round robin format.

Dropped catches loses matches.
That and being an allround shit cricket team. Quite possibly the worst Australia XI has EVER fielded. Incompetent across the board.

Much appreciated.

Always important to be a king in one trade rather than being a jack of all trades, king of none.
I want to let you know, India will rule the Test arena for the next fifty years.

The only thing that was holding you guys back was your domestic scene.

But you guys have sorted that...

India will rule the cricket world for the next 50 years at least.

As good as South Africa are, they can't compete with the might of India.

3 x 6s off a pie chucker isn’t a great feat. Besides, he said he was sore so they didn’t risk it

Maybe WA needs a new physio as none of their bowlers can survive more than a couple of games. Jhye better move East quickly before he becomes a victim

No chance of Australia v India final
We'll be there dude, don't really care who we play, but unless you've been living under a rock for the lost 30 years Australia come to play in WCs, India are ranked no1 ATM but we all know the Weapons Australia has to add.

King Kohli? I'd back Smith any day of the week in all forms.

England will be there, real no1 team, playing at home. Australia and India can fight it out to play the home team

Smith will be 18 months without an ODI and 30 months since he last made a century...

My Mrs visited India when she was 20, she loved the country, the only bad thing she has to say is her and her friend were at a train station and some little boy approached them, he asked have you ever been to the MCG, Mrs said yes (her father is an MCC member) then some soldier came along and butted his gun in the face of this little boy and apologized for letting the boy speak to them.

Filth.

I get feeling you've played a bit of cricket, if i'm right you'll know ability doesn't dissapear at that age lol.

A break can be like a holiday.

Yeah, a more interesting game would be a full XI of Aus bowlers who can't bat vs a full XI of Aus batsmen who can't bowl. Would be a close game imo.
Not really. Most Aus batsmen can't bat or bowl while most Aus bowlers can bowl and bat a bit

Dhoni is not in the team just for his batting. His wicket keeping skills and leadership are other roles which is often overlooked. There is no way Kohli has the brain to be tactically good with field placement and stuffs. And Dhoni is one of the best brains in cricketing world and wicket keeper ever to play the game. We need Dhoni to help Kohli in WC. Dhoni will be calm and can think well which we can use.

Accepted that Dhoni is past his prime but he can hold the innings together when top order fails. He can plan well during chasing and the only way we fail is when we are batting first and if Dhoni bats slow(which is likely to happen in England). But given his understanding of game and his experience I would back him easily for the WC. What he did in this series is pretty average but nevertheless we won and that's what matters in the end.

Oh and not to forget Dhoni Review System.

Would be good if Dhoni gets his mojo back in playing against spinners and rotating the strike.

You won't have to worry about quarter finals, everyone in a group of 10 and top 4 make the Semi Finals.

India also have Hockey,Kabaddi,ISL,etc.. and huge fan following to these sports as well

You do have over 1billion people, most things will have a huge fan following.
But he’s right, India really only have one sport. Cricket is essentially a religion in India,
In Australia, especially these days, the football codes are more strongly followed than the cricket.
More young kids are pursuing football than cricket.
It’s why our depth has suffered

I saw a stat the other day that his dot ball % has been consistent pretty much all throughout his career. So it’s not like he used to rotate the strike any more than he does now. However yes he’s definitely lost the ability to clear the boundaries as much as he used to, so he doesn’t catch up as well or all the time as he used to in the past.

That’s why he’s best suited to #4 IMO, especially for tricky chases or if our top order fails. If we happen to be chasing a huge target or our top order has set a really good platform then he can go down the order. However as we’ve seen in this series he’s the perfect guy for the situations we encountered and no doubt we’ll have similar situations in the WC.

People are assuming the WC will see 300-350 scores. The CT was around 18 months ago and the highest score was by Pak in the final - 338. In the other 14 games thus 28 completed innings, there were only 6 other instances of teams scoring over 300 with the highest being 322. Might not be as common as some expect.

Also yep let’s not forget his keeping is as good as ever. Based on what we’ve seen so far Pant’s keeping isn’t quite there yet and I’m not sold on Karthik yet as a batsman so there aren’t any other keeper batsman options who can replace him anyway.

And as you’ve illustrated it’s quite clear that Dhoni’s value in this team goes beyond his batting. That’s why I’m backing the team judgement on this.

I haven't been following the ODI stuff recently. Am I right in what I've heard...a World Cup year, and we're playing Peter bloody Siddle?
He played a solid role in the Test team over a number of years and deservedly reached the 200-wicket milestone.

This out-of-the-blue ODI selection (especially in a WC year, as you mentioned) is just strange though.

The wides bowled late on by Siddle proved costly in a tight game. However in fairness to Siddle, it must be mentioned his first spell was damn good.

Had Rohit (one of the greats of the game) on toast with the new ball, should’ve had him LBW (a decision that I’d like to see rewarded to the bowlers more often) and eventually deserved to him out.

He also had Dhoni caught behind off an inside edge that was inexplicably not reviewed. If that is sent upstairs he would be lauded for breaking the partnership and getting out another all time great Dhoni at a crucial moment.

It’s a game of fine lines and margins, unfortunately for him it was too loud out in the middle to discernibly hear the edge (needed some back up from his keeper to convince Finch). Anyway, it is what it is.
