Everyone's said it all here. He's been a little warrior for our club. Loved him throughout. It's been a tough couple of years and it's the right decision IMO.

All the best to Harro. I hope he plays an important role with another decent side in the AFL from 2010 onwards.

It's been a pleasure watching Harro over the years and his good games have been outstanding - I'm really sorry to see him go and hope he gets a good offer to keep playing at a high level somewhere else, because he'd be a big asset.

I think it's tragic when older ladies wear player badges, but I do confess to having a Harro magnet on display here in my study. May just leave it there as well.

Harro 'could have' been an elite player, one of the best extractors in the business make no mistake. I think Laidley hurt him greatly as a player, lengthy spells on the bench & in & out of the team. He 'might' get picked up, maybe a Freo, I think the Pies rate also him highly. Thanks for your efforts Harro.

Cheers Harro. You were one of my favourite players over the last 10 years. A new club will do you the world of good. I will be praying for you to be picked up draft night. cheers dude.

He won't get picked up becuse he is no good anymore and is finished as a footballer. Too slow, can't kick, could never play 4 consistent quarters and was never elite.
Not a bad career, good luck to him with whatever comes his way.

Utter crap he has clean footskills they're just not a dominant aspect of his game. Also a decent finisher when he ends up there.

I think he could've/should've been an elite clearance player and there's nothing to stop him having some golden seasons at 27-30yo for a team who utilises him well.

Really like the way he goes about it on and off field and very sorry he's leaving North. Didn't always get the best treatment under pinhead.

Let me preface this by stating that I know that this time of year is rife with calls like, “Let’s trade Riggio and our second rounder for Kerr” etc. but I have been thinking about the trade value for a proven performer in Daniel Harris.

Now, I have gone on record saying that Daniel has fallen down the pecking order at Arden St and that I think the game has just about passed him by. However, would other clubs with deficiencies in Harro’s area of strength, namely contested possessions and clearances, feel the same way? So, for the sake of discussion, please continue.

Obviously he is going from the club and of course we would like to get something for him. Question is who would be interested?

From my reckoning the following may sniff around during trade week.

Essendon – Help for Watson in the middle
Sydney – Small ground, assistance for Kirk who is close to finished
Collingwood – Again, inside mid is required
Port – Pre Laidley yes, now, who knows?

Now, best case scenario for us is if all these clubs show interest. That would mean that to secure Harro, they will have to deal in trade week, rather than letting him slip into the PSD.

So, this begs the question, what could the club do to get the best value out of a Harro trade?

In my opinion, this brings the possible pick 41 from Hawthorn for Gibbo, or our pick 37 into play. Swapping Harro plus one of these picks for a second rounder might just be on the cards.

Essendon – Pick 26 for Harro and 37
Port – Pick 24 for Harro and 37
Sydney – Pick 22 for Harro and 37
Collingwood – Pick 30 for Harro and 41

Leaving us with: 5, 21, 25, 22 or 24 or 26 or 30 and 37 or 41

Worst case scenario, no one shows any interest. Harro leaves for nout.

Would anyone bite?

This raises another question. Just how much do the club plan for such deals? Would the coaching and admin crew be sitting in the war room, with The Chief pouring the Laphroaig and cutting the ends off the Cubans, discussing such schemes? If so, how would such conversations evolve??

I think Essendon's a good fit, they really do need another inside player and he is much better than Skipworth. I would be happy to trade him to the Bombers for their second round pick.

I love him, but he's got no currency. Zilch.

Yeah, I too get that feeling. But, stranger things have happened. Here's hoping we get something for him.

I don't fully agree as he is a player that desperatly needs a new club. He could be easily rejuvinated in a club that has quick outside midfielders but no grunt inside like Essendon and Port.

If any club showed interest in Harris, North would take anything just to get him to another club (a'la Steven King). I'd say a fourth or fifth round pick.

Slightly different question. I don't think he has trade currency for us. He may get picked up by another club in either draft though. I wish him good luck.

I reckon that's the most likely outcome, if he is to receive another chance at AFL level. It'll be that or nada I reckon.

Honestly why would anyone trade for him, when they could pick him up for free in the PSD?

I'm thinking maybe a Ben Davies style 6th round pick, which we then don't use anyway. Harro gets a new home 8 weeks earlier than if he had to wait for the PSD, and he also gets some say in the process.

If someone higher up on the ladder like say Collingwood wanted him but didn't want to risk him vanishing before them in the PSD then they might offer something.

What that something is I don't know.

Rumour was he got a reasonable offer last year but didn't want to go to that club, picks were more valuable last year too. Another mediocre year probably has damaged his value further though.

I'd be surprised if we got better than a 4th round pick for him, it would have to come from a club that was in dire need for inside mids.

What makes Harro's currency zilch is a fact that we are moving him on despite our own shortage of quality inside mids. Without Harro and with Simmo gone, we really have just Swallow, a very young Ziebell and perhaps Firrito who can be relied upon to win more than an occasional contested ball around the middle.

Wouldn't mind at all if we were able to get something like this done for Harro :thumbsu:.

Hard to understand why the club would announce he was gone and then try and trade him. Can't understand that logic. Surely you would try and trade him first. As soon as you say he is gone he has virtually no value.

after seeing some of the gibson related posts lately im surprised ppl dont think we can trade harris for ablett

The time it took you to write all that up will be double the time other clubs will think about trading for Daniel Harris. You said it in your post, the game has gone past him. I doubt anyone will give it a 2nd thought.

Sad though, top bloke who was on par with Mitchell a few years back, now they are light years apart.
