Just not true mate.

2016 - 23 Brownlow votes, including SIX BOG's.
2015 - 21 Brownlow votes, got votes in TEN matches
2014 - 13 Brownlow votes, got votes in EIGHT matches, multiple goals in SEVEN matches
2013 - 16 Brownlow votes, got votes in EIGHT matches, multiple goals in FIVE matches, BOG THREE times
2012 - multiple goals in SEVEN matches

Every season he averaged over 20 possession, up to 30-ish in two of those seasons.

That's incredible consistency from a young bloke in the first half of his career, and why he was offered $1.5M/year elsewhere even before his heroics of 2017.

I remember him destoying the Giants out at Homebush one day in 2013

This might be unpopular, but IMO it's seriously time for him to be back as a permanent midfielder. We threw him forward, assuming he wasn't needed more around the ball and with the luxury of some midfield additions, thought we could use him as another forward.

We simply are NOT that team that has that sort of luxury, especially given we are 17th! It's time we put him where he belongs the most as a damaging explosive on baller. He may not be 2017 standard, but he is still pretty dam good. He hasn't been getting as many touches simply because he's too far from the ball constantly. He is twice the player of any other midfielder we have with some confidence, we can use him more efficiently all over the ground.

It will allow Cumberland to do his thing up forward, with also Graham. Dusty can still rest up forward, however, Richmond really need their best player to be in the action.

Im not too sure of the numbers as i have not checked but i thought he did spend more time in the midfield against melbourne than he has in any other game this year

i think its always been the intention to have him 70/30 fwd mid

Yep, I've noticed he has gone in there a small amount. I believe we as a team would be better off, and most likely win more games if he was 70 mid and 30 forward

It's popular with me.
Dusty was just as prolific kicking goals as a mid/forward as he has shown as a forward/mid.

We would be far better served with him having more room and freedom in the middle rather than starved of opportunity in the forward 50 with a stopper/defender hanging off him.

Is it really fitness? Age? Both?

I wonder where Dusty would prefer to play....

Dusty probably prefers the role he is playing. He is finding the footy, could have had 4 last week 1 which would have been goal of the year. His numbers a quite good. Dusty is the absolute least of our problems.
Considering he is lucky to be playing at all considering that injury I’m happy with what he is doing.

Don't get me wrong, Dusty has always been a gun. But 2017 compared to before that, huge difference. Turned into an absolute bonafide superstar.

Daicos is ahead of him at the same age though. Maybe not by as much as I'm making out.

Different players though. Dusty, at his best, broke games apart single-handedly, either dominating them all over, or taking them by the scruff of the neck at key moments and being the reason things changed (eg. 2020 GF).

Daicos MAY have already reached a ceiling. Still a very good ceiling, but may never be at Dusty levels of standing head and shoulders above everyone else on the field (which I don't think Daicos is doing yet despite how good he's been, and may never).

But either way, we shouldn't say "yes but will he be as good as Dusty" to every new gun player from other teams.
It was obvious in from first game Dusty had talent to burn. From memory it took him 2 or 3 seasons to build the tank to run out a game.

Chris juds first 6 years at West Coast were far superior to just about anyone who has ever played the game
The fact he was in Perth he was out of site out of mind to a certain extent,,daicos is nowhere near judd

Plus he played in the guts as well, not getting cheap statts from kick ins

Yes old Dusty hasn't shaken off the "waddle" to really start impacting...just a tad more game time could see him waddle-less...

nope around 2015-16 he became an A grade player of the comp

2017 he became elite level GOAT

you are confused because that 2017 season is something that you will probably never see from an individual again, but its not possible to reach those standards year after year consistently

Dusty's 2011 season is also routinely overlooked. He averaged 22 disposals, 3.3 tackles, 8.8 contested possessions, 2.4 goals + goal assists as a 19yo turning 20 in season, and playing in a weak team.

For comparison, Tyson Stengle won AA selection in 2022 as a 23 yo playing in the top team, averaging 14 disposals, 2.6 tackles, 5.6 contested possessions, 2.6 goals + goal assists, 1.4 clearances. This is not even in the same solar system as year 2 Dusty.

So in other words, if you just mainly stationed Dusty forward in a strong team that year he is easily AA level. I am sure the same would be true in all or most of his seasons from year 2 onwards.

The main reason Dusty is wrongly not recognised as being elite prior to 2017(2016 he finished 3rd in the Brownlow, and 3rd in the coaches votes so it is laughable to say he wasn't elite 2016) is because he was mainly splitting his time between midfield and forward, making his statistics look merely decent in both roles. He is a better forward imo and as I said, if he was just stationed forward most of the time, he would have been unrivalled as a general forward with his body of work in that period 2011-2016.

In terms of less meaningful accolades like AA selection and goals kicked, Dusty would have been much better off if he was just a general forward, and not also more or less our best midfielder from a young age. But in terms of the Ayres Medals and Norm Smith Medals, he has done his reputation no end of good by developing the split role. A lot of others being compared to Dusty are nowhere near him in reality, including all the big names of this century. These young ones like N Daicos have it all to prove yet, and we will see how his uncontested game stands up in finals over time.

But of course we saw great benefit from him developing the split role when it really mattered, 2017-20. :)

I do agree he needs to play more midfield time he is too good of player not to be used there, he was never used 100% as a forward even when he went forward and had amazing games most of the time he was playing a lot more midfield minutes than what he is now that's what was part of he's greatness.

he used to lose he's opponent throughout the chaos. I don't know why we have gone away from it.

Here we go again

Pointless trading him because we won't get anything for him & he is still doing decent things. I mean he isn't the same player but he is unselfish as fk imo he could've kicked 3-4 goals today but he always handballs or passes it someone in a better position he is one player in our team who's skills have not declined.
