I think quality of disposal by foot is incorrectly assumed to be a quality that sets that best apart from the rest.

Swan, Fyfe, Dangerfield, Judd and Jobe are four recent players whose disposal by foot is average. Most of the best mids are clearance machines and quality kicking in not really a feature of any of them.

Well his kicking style reminds of Chad Fletcher so that's good enough for me.

Plus it's no coincide he's drawing on stereotypes generally attributed to aboriginal players
Absolutely no need to bring race into this. windyhill quite rightly pointed out that Walla didn't look his normal self, even if it is only the first pre-season game. There's nothing wrong in voicing concerns about a players body language.

I went back and watched the 1st pre season game against Carlton again last night and he didn't get anywhere near the ball.

No need to panic, i think like last year he will start to get a rhythm the more he plays.

Can this lack of hungry talk be put to bed now? He is only starting up

Bit disappointed with Langford, really needs to throw his wait around. Not that I condone playing bit dirty but wouldn't mind seeing him lift the elbows to break tackles/get out of packs to create a bit of fear trying to tackle him. Fyfe lives a bit on the edge, Langford would benefit from this. Would like to see him start imposing himself. Create a presence that opponents will think twice about beating him to the ball.

He is 20 years old....

Fyfe lookis like he has about 7 kgs on Langford.

I agree that he has not been aggressive enough around the ball. He has been a liability in the centre square from what I've seen.

He is young, but how does he influence the game more at the present?
His disposal is an asset but he needs to actually get the ball either by becoming a more marking player or more aggressive to really be worth playing this year. All reports he wants more midfield minutes. To me he hasn't showed he wants the ball more than anyone else. So I think he needs to show more lead up marking.
He's certainly as big if not bigger than Fyfe at similar age.

He and Parish were the biggest reasons in the 2nd half we were much better imo. He was beasting inside, still question his outside game tho.
i really like the idea of him playing a Pendles like role for us. Hunt the ball in traffic and get it out to the outside guys in Zaka, Parish, Colyer, Tippa.

He wants to emulate Fyfe but he doesn't ever have to be that good and we shouldn't expect it, it he turns out anywhere near Fyfe then happy days, at worse he can be a very damaging forward and puting him through the midfield now at the very least gives him a string to his bow later down the track. We can all see he has great hands and skill and a smart head on his shoulders, whether he becomes the next Fyfe or not doesn't matter to me I'm sure he is still a pivotal part of our exciting future

It's still early days, we're only 2/3 deep into the preseason so best not to get too carried away folks. Not all kids who get recruited into the AFL system will have that 'immediate' impact like Joel Selwood, Bont or Zach Merrett.

For me, when he's at his best he reminds me of a younger version of Pendlebury. Great Composure, Deadeye kick, Wonderful Goal sense, Strong Hands and a Good Decision Maker.

Where I see his biggest hurdle is applying his best game across 4qtrs of footy week in week out.

Safe to say he's tracking well and I hope he has another consistent year of Footy, will set him up beautifully for 2018.

Have now watched the second half of JLT 2 again because my impression of his game was more unimpressed than most.

What he did well: he played like he was what I think is a traditional centreman. Around the ground he was almost half a kick out of the contest so he was quite often there when the ball spilled from contested marking situations or the ball was squeezed free out of congestion (almost like a play-maker). He took the ball cleanly and distributed it well.

What he did not so well: his contested work was only average at best (basically what you'd expect of a lanky 20 year old midfielder).
