But have they learned or will they double down on highlighting trumps lies and unpresidential behaviour, which appears to reinforce trump base into voting for him.

So what? If people are gunna support such stoopid behaviour, whats to lose by pointing it out?.

Surely the aim is to turn your own base out at the election by showing just what an embarrassing, damaging lying flog is in the WH.

Trump doesn't have a majority of the popular support. He had just enough to win the EC votes in the right places to win the election.

He has to do a lot right for the same result to occur. That doesn't really seem to be happening. He can blame China, Mexico, the EU, the FED, the 9th district court, Denmark or whoever, but that cant go on forever.

Their aint that many dumb people, even in the US.

I’m not sure that it does mobilise their (Democrat) base; also the dems need to work against the gerrymanders; so finding a way to break trumps base and steal votes could be more effective.
It is possible that focusing on what is seen as ridiculous trump behaviour just makes him seem like a leader to those who aren’t rusted on dems.

I also think you over estimate the intelligence of the US.

Well I'm not sure either, but coming up with some sensible policy probably wont be enough. Surely they have to rile up their own supporters, the majority of the electorate, in places like Pennsylvania & the rust belt Trumpy lied to. Trumpy is the Target. A large target at that.

Or have some policy that appeals to moderate Republicans. Seize the centre.

I seriously believe that the left/dems should be picking their battles re Trump more selectively. Ie not nitpicking on every little point-scoring opportunity against him. That tactic failed in 2016.

Those of us on the pro-Trump side have been totally desensitised to the outrage re Trump. When I hear fresh criticisms of him, my first instinct is to assume that said criticism is based on misinformation, or is at the very least twisted/exaggerated (just being honest). If it's something I actually care about or consider to be significant, I do some digging and try to find the facts. If not, I ignore it.

It's easy to write off Trump's base as "dumb rednecks who think everything is fake news". But maybe they've been given valid reason to think that way, to an extent.

What I'm trying to get at here is that I think "the left" (Dems, prominent anti-Trumpers on social media, etc) should ignore some of the pettier stuff, so that folks actually pay attention when something serious goes awry.

That may be your first reaction. But no one is making up the crap that comes out of his mouth or tweets. Do we ignore everything he says or which bits????

I mean cancelling a trip because Denmark wouldn't sell Greenland? How can you ignore that sort of deranged BS?? He's the POTUS FFS!!!

He flips & flops on just about everything. The fight with China is not well thought out. He cant focus long enough to stick to the same story about that or anything else. Attacking the Fed as public enemy, or President Xi, is stooped. Trump appointed one & the other was a man he could do a deal with a little while ago.

As said, you can say what you like about his base. It doesn't matter. What matters is getting out your own supporters.

Pointing out his lies must be a big part of that, surely.

Trumpy has strength as an arrogant game show host. that's about it. Pointing it out has to be part of the strategy.

You cant debate him on policy because he lies flat out. He says anything at anytime. Their is no coherence what so ever.

Are you happy he died?
I’m indifferent. He was an evil, greedy turd and the world is likely better off without him, but he’s done the damage already so alive or dead it’s no biggie.

Indifferent. Lol.

Evil is a bit rough. Certainly a greedy, nasty old sod. The sort of robber baron that makes one realise why they tend to vote left of centre in the first place.

Basically the sort that gives Capitalism its bad name

What is the best possible outcome from this trade war with the path it's on?

What's the spin being put on it? Or is it unspinnable at this point?

"Take him seriously, not literally"?

Does anyone have an idea on what the best possible outcome could be here?
Outside of providing a monolithic distraction from Epstein.

On May 30, 2019, the White House announced that President Donald Trump would use IEEPA powers to introduce tariffs on Mexican exports in response to the national security threat of illegal immigration from Mexico into the United States.[17]

As part of an ongoing trade war with China, on August 23, 2019, President Trump tweeted that the IEEPA powers grant him authority to order American companies to move their operations out of China.[18]

Farrrrrrrrrrk...

They really just want the asset inflation bubble to return.

So will Trump products made in China attract the tariff

I hope that the criminal conman hasn't put his foot in it over the week-end as I had whiplash with his flip flop flip last week.

Had to laugh watching Larry Kudlow being interviewed. He was shown a clip where Boris Johnson was responding to Trump's tariff war and he stated it was taken out of context then proceed to waffle. Not sure how answering a question and listening and watching Boris reply can be taken out of context. Seems he has caught Trump's disease.

Normal people don't use Milton Friedman's name in polite conversation, it isn't 1982 anymore.

Anyway, if the US defaults on its debt, the entire world has a major issue, not just China.
Wasn't Freidman in Beijing during the Tienanmen Square massacre in 89?

Curious timing.
Even Greenspan recanted his anti-Keynesian initial reactions the GFC in his autobiography (second release).

I'm sure that targeted campaigning in the rust belt states will be done very differently to coastal voters who still think stupidity is a bad thing.

The loving left.

Oh you have me mistaken, I'm not from the loving left.

I'm glad Koch is dead and am only sad it wasn't televised, and come from the point of a rifle.

Koch and his type have been conducting war on the wider world for decades.

You included but you just don't realise it.

I didn't wish the obnoxious bastard dead, just non-existent, but you simply couldn't get a better example of the indisputable fact that every billionaire is a policy failure.
As well as an affront to the eyes of god, if he existed.
