Yeah I think this will be his last year with us.
Can never fault his effort or intent, it's always top notch. But unfortunately the talent just isn't there. He can Joe the Goose his way to 20 goals and maybe fool a few, but when you watch him play, the drawbacks are too obvious. Slow, not great at pressure, poor at crumbing, turnover merchant and just always takes the wrong options.
I think he could go back to the VFL for a bit and I wouldn't be surprised if another club picks him up down the line. I hope they do. But from here on out, if Davey is fit, we should be playing him.
I don't think I've ever see him crumb and nail a beautiful front and centre goal in his life. They're largely just out the back goals or from absolute plum looks. He can't create a goal from nothing. Not sure on the poor at crumbing, he seemed to read the ball off the hands front and square well last night, critically he put himself in that spot, alwyn is never there

I think that opening goal vs GWS where Davey kicked one and got us into the game is the exact type of thing Davey can do, and Menzie can't.
Schnitz, this is bullshit and you know it.Yeah I think this will be his last year with us.

That's exactly what it is, and why he should playHe perhaps looks better to some of us because Davey jnr is just so, so far away from producing a game close to what Jye delivers.

He's shown AFL quality. He reads the ball well off hands. He crumbs well. His pressure is his big weakness due to a lack of pace but that's it.
No current season stats available
I’d love to se Menzie prove me wrong. I really do. But what attributes does he possess that makes you say ‘we’ll continue to give him every chance despite not setting the world on fire’? He’s in the team without any credits in the bank. He’s not fast. He doesn’t make things happen. He’s forward defensive pressure is suspect. At least Alwyn has pace, defensive pressure, goal sense, and can make things happen. Menzie is behind in all those aspects. He’s got an AFL body which gives him an advantage there but not much else.
Alwyn undoubtedly has the higher ceiling. If we are serious about making him a player he needs to be prioritised over Menzie. However, neither should be in the team. Especially Menzie. I hope he kicks 5 against Carlolton, but he won’t. He’ll be lucky to snag one over the top handball goal in the goalsquare. And god help us if he is trying to chase Saad out of defence. We clearly need a better option than both, it has to be our highest draft or trade priority, until then I still reckon Menz shades Alwyn.
He has the goal sense and ability to make things happen. We’ve seen him chase down and create inferred pressure. But his application is inconsistent and he isn’t physically developed enough to hold his own for more than a couple of qtrs a game. He’s not ready but he has much more to work with.I think the idea of Alwyn has these things.
In reality, I'm not convinced he's got any of them.

Based on what?Alwyn undoubtedly has the higher ceiling

Skill set, the way he moves, agility, more speed, can kick a sneaky goal, can chase down with closing speed, has a bit of flair, can play further up the ground as he matures (perhaps off half back). Should I go on? We’ve seen these things in fleeting glimpses, granted, but we’ve seen them nonetheless. He’s not shown enough yet and I have serious doubts about his ability to actually make the most of his attributes. But they are there.Based on what?
The height of their respective ceilings.Based on what?
Honestly the only one that means anything as far as getting one over on Menzie is his chase down pressure.Skill set, the way he moves, agility, more speed, can kick a sneaky goal, can chase down with closing speed, has a bit of flair, can play further up the ground as he matures (perhaps off half back).
